Chapter 429: She Looks Like Me [Bonus Chapter]
"You will stay inside this cave to remain in hiding while you recuperate. I will bring you some food whenever I can. But remember not to make a sound or they will find you," the cloaked giant instructed.
Ferdinand was levitated by magic again and brought into the deepest part of the cave.
Arabella was pulled along with him the whole time, probably because this was her dream. It would have ended, and she have awakened if she was not pulled with them.
If this was a message about the past, what it was trying to tell her was probably not yet revealed which was why she hadn’t woken up yet. Elder Satara usually had stories about dreams like this and Arabella listened to a lot of it when she was a child.
Arabella was rather grateful to whoever this magician was who came to Ferdinand’s rescue. If not for her, he would have been the meal of the giants the following day.
’May the heavens bless this lady a thousand times, no, a million more times for saving Ferdinand!’ Arabella was so relieved that she didn’t have to watch Ferdinand go through any more suffering.
The cloaked giant conjured a torch with a magic stone that provided with light instead of fire. It lit up the cave so Ellie could check up on Ferdinand’s wounds.
"My name is Ellie. I live alone at the top of this mountain and saw what transpired the past few days. Thus, I decided to help you escape," the cloaked giant introduced herself. She made a seat for herself and undid her hood to show Ferdinand her face and that she meant no harm.
’She looks exactly like me!’ Arabella gasped. The giant was simply a bigger version of herself. She did not recognize the voice at first since she was mostly whispering and it sounded different coming from such a huge person, but even their voice was alike.
’What is the meaning of this? Is this what this dream is trying to tell me? I have met Ferdinand in the past? So, is this a past life? I was once a giant?’
Or was this nothing but a crazy dream?
But it was too detailed, and everything seemed too real. She had not even read anything about giants so there was no reason for her to dream about them like this.
"Don’t hurt me, alright? I’m just trying to help you," Ellie clarified.
Ferdinand blinked then moved his head in a nodding motion.
"Good. According to the stories I’ve heard from my travels, you have lived for quite a while so I’m sure you already had some form of understanding about us humans."
’Humans?! What does she mean? They are not giants but humans?’ Arabella blinked repeatedly. After recalling Ferdinand’s words, the thought crossed her that Ellie and others may be huge humans.
Ferdinand said that the primordial dragons were so much bigger than the following generations and that the size decreased from generation to generation. Perhaps it was also true for humans since Ellie referred to herself and the others as humans.
"I will remove the chains so I can heal all your wounds properly. It would take time since you were poisoned by the monster you fought before they caught you."
Ellie then melted all the chains and restraints on Ferdinand, and he behaved properly as agreed and did not try to bite her or anything.
Arabella simply watched and listened as Ellie talked to Ferdinand and explained things while checking more of his wounds.
His responses were nods and blinks probably since Ellie told him not to make a sound.
It was then that Arabella learned that Ferdinand fought a monster thrice his size and successfully defeated and killed it. However, he was poisoned by the monster and got heavily injured.
The claw wounds she saw on Ferdinand’s cut wings were from the monster. The monster’s claws and blood had lethal poison which was what made Ferdinand immobile after the fight. He could not fly with his damaged wings either and he was covered in injuries.
’Ferdinand’s poison resistance does not work against monsters?’ Arabella wondered.
"Those cowards. Their city would have been attacked by that monster if you did not kill it. And yet those ingrates still captured you and even planned to eat you," Ellie said with disgust.
Ferdinand seemed to fully agree since he made a low rumbling sound that could only be heard inside the cave.
"I saved my village once too using my powers but instead of thanking me, they were horrified about my abilities. Everyone from my village called me a witch since there was not a single magician there. So, I ended up becoming an outcast and eventually exiled. Ah, but you probably don’t know what a witch is. It’s what they call us because they do not understand our powers," Ellie explained as she healed him.
Arabella learned from Ellie’s words that the people from the city took the chance to capture Ferdinand while he was in a weakened state. Ferdinand still tried to fight them but he was eventually captured.
Due to his innate strong regenerative abilities, Ferdinand’s wounds quickly began to heal. His captors feared he would be able to use his powers once he was able to regenerate more so they ensured he remained weak.
They tortured him every day, but he kept regenerating. Eventually, they cut his wings and riddled it with a curse to ensure he kept bleeding. They tried to cut his horns too but none of their weapons could cut it.
They even used curses on the wounds inflicted by the monster. Thus, they would not completely heal. It was used by his captors to be able to injure him despite his hard scales.
It was beyond cruel.
Ellie explained that it was due to fear and misplaced pride. The people feared his strength so grabbed this opportunity to rid of him. Especially since they wanted to widen their territory to the areas near Ferdinand’s abode. Likewise, it was a source of pride for them to have captured something that terrified even other beasts.
