Chapter 392: What Rendell Can Do [Bonus Chapter]
Arabella wanted to snicker at Alwin for getting scolded even at a time like this, but it wasn’t the time and place.
Further, it was because Ferdinand was worried about him.
More importantly, her mother, Sera, and Andrew’s mother all looked like they might pass out any second due to the sight of all the monsters running in their direction.
And she was right.
Before Arabella could even speak to try to calm them down, Sera passed out and Andrew caught her.
It was probably for the better since Sera might get even more traumatized if she sees what would happen next.
Alwin made seats for the elders and a couch where Sera was laid.
It rather puzzled them since it wasn’t time to relax. But they figured Alwin might be trying to make them seat before any of them collapses too.
He made a seat for Arabella too.
{I tell you are barely standing. If His Majesty is not supporting your weight, you may have fallen to your knees.}
Alwin made fun of her.
{Humph. Sorry I wasn’t as fearless as you thought. This is way more monsters than the ones I saw in Safiro. And they are all heading here because of you.}
Arabella bit back and reminded it was Alwin’s fault.
Ferdinand made her seat so she could be comfortable while watching the knights’ fight the monsters. He stood behind her to protect her from harm.
Their knights surrounded them too and prepared themselves to fight.
Alwin gave up his disguise since he may have to use more powerful magic and being in another person’s appearance apparently limited some of his abilities.
Still, he wore a mask instead along with his cloak to not reveal his divine beauty.
Alwin didn’t want to receive marriage proposals from the royals here if they see his face. He was already receiving a lot just from being the master of the only Magic Tower in Valeria.
Arabella was sure that if young ladies saw Alwin’s face, he would indeed get more marriage proposals so hiding his face was indeed reasonable even if it made him seem somewhat suspicious.
"Let Rendell do the fighting. Only join him, when necessary," Ferdinand ordered their knights.
It made Benjamin and everyone else frown since a lot of monsters were heading their way.
Arabella glanced at Rendell. He didn’t look in the least bit nervous. Rather, there was a dangerous glint in his eyes, and he was oozing some scary aura.
He did not look like his usual self. This was the Rendell that went to countless wars with Ferdinand.
[His Majesty told me to show off. I should kill at least half of these monsters or all of them.]
’Isn’t that a bit too much? There are so many monsters heading here.’
Thankfully, the monsters were not that fast due to their size. But their strides were huge so they would be reach them soon.
How much more do they want to make her mother worry?
Does receiving that kind of instruction from Ferdinand always meant going to that extent?
Or it was Rendell’s pride as a giant? These monsters would be easy to squash if he was in his original form.
Rendell unsheathed his sword. It was a huge black sword that looked terrifying.
Arabella’s mother bit her index finger to stop herself from screaming as Rendell walked alone to meet the monsters approaching. Her mother covered her mouth with a fan, so it won’t be visible to others.
Andrew’s mother covered her mouth to muffle her scream as one monster approached Rendell.
Sera remained unconscious so Andrew was guarding her.
The supranational knights chasing after the monsters thought Rendell must be suicidal.
But Ferdinand, Alwin, and their knights simply watched rather too calmly because they knew what Rendell was capable of.
One monster dashed toward Rendell and attacked with its vicious sharp claws. Rendell swiftly dodge it and maneuvered behind the monster before giving its vulnerable neck a slash.
The monster’s head was scent flying.
Rendell was able to kill it with one attack even though the supranational knights grouped up to fight a single one. And they were not yet able to kill even one of the monsters.
Everyone gasped at the sight. They were awed by Rendell’s strength.
[I see. He was trying to show us the caliber of the knight he assigned to guard Arabella. He is indeed very strong to be able to kill such a monster with one slash.] her brother Benjamin thought as he glanced at Ferdinand.
’Oh, so that was what Ferdinand was trying to do?’ Arabella only realized it now that her brother thought about it.
’Right, people began to wonder if Rendell was truly capable ever since I got poisoned. Some even blamed him for failing to protect me. But no one expected the poisoning attempt. And it wasn’t Rendell’s expertise. Even Alwin and Ferdinand did not notice it.’
Her husband was trying to restore Rendell’s honor through this. He wanted to show everyone that Rendell was indeed very much capable of protecting her from danger which was why he was assigned as her guard.
. . .
The monsters were triggered by the sight of Rendell killing one of them. They probably considered him a danger to their existence, so they all began to approach him instead.
One tried to attack him from behind, but Rendell turned around and dodged it too. He was able to kill it easily as well.
Rendell was swift and moved around quickly, slashing a monster’s head, and moving to the next. If he could not behead a monster, he slashed it repeatedly to cut it into several parts until it could not attack him anymore.
In a few minutes, Rendell had killed fifteen of the monsters, and his clothes got soaked with monster blood.
Rendell killed more than half of the monsters until the remaining ones were able to surround him.
Only then did Ferdinand nod when the Knight Commander glanced at him, asking for permission if they could join the fight now.
With Ferdinand’s approval, the Valeria knights began to move to attack the monsters. Some remained to guard them.
