Chapter 391: Lure Them Here
Chapter 391: Lure Them Here
While everyone was still disorganized, Ferdinand wanted to get out of the hall first to avoid everyone crowding later.
Arabella understood why her husband thought that way.
The others thought it was safer to stay inside the building while the knights fight the monsters outside.
But if the building was surrounded, it meant they would be trapped.
They wanted to believe the monsters would not be able to reach the building.
But what if the knights failed to stop some of the monsters?
The others were even in denial that they were truly seeing monsters.
People truly had various reactions when exposed to danger.
Arabella was relieved she at least accepted that danger was there and she needed to get to safety. And that place would be wherever Ferdinand and Alwin went.
If it was outside, then it was outside. It could be anywhere else as well as long as she was with them.
But as Arabella and Ferdinand were making their way to the exit when there was a loud thump on the roof that made the whole building shake. It vibrated to the ground.
The sound of glass breaking came along with the sound of a deafening roar.
She covered her ears but there was no use.
Screams of panic resounded as well and made everything more chaotic than it already was.
Arabella knew before she even looked up that a monster was on the roof. She prepared herself to cover her head from falling debris.
But her husband was already doing that for her. He held her close and covered her with his arms.
When she looked up to the roof, the shards of broken glass were not falling.
She looked around.
Alwin’s arms were raised from having to cast a spell out of necessity.
The same was true with the magicians of other royals who had to reveal themselves now.
They had their wands or staffs raised in the air, unlike Alwin who didn’t need one.
They had all acted at the same time and made barriers of their own to prevent the shards from falling and injuring everyone.
Screams of horror and panic resounded yet again as the monster broke more parts of the roof.
Once it was done going on a rampage and ruining the roof, it began breaking the barriers the magicians made.
Everyone realized they needed to get out of there.
If they stayed inside the building, they would be dead once the monster was able to break all the barriers.
And it was doing so one by one. The barriers were breaking so everyone began to panic despite trying to remain calm.
"Alwin, teleport us outside," Ferdinand instructed since everyone was racing for the exits now.
This was exactly why Ferdinand wanted them to get out before the others earlier. But now that they knew Alwin (as the knight) was his magician, there was no use pretending they could not teleport.
Everyone was busy caring about their safety anyway so they may not even notice they simply teleported.
There were those who wanted to get out as quickly as possible and even used the windows with their knights.
There were more monsters outside but the supranational knights of Medeus had gathered along with the knights that came with the Council members.
The supranational knights of Medeus came from various parts of Eliora and were recognized in the entire continent and beyond.
They were not limited to their homeland but were committed to maintaining peace and order in Medeus and the entire continent instead.
Their skills were far better than normal knights since being a supranational knight had more requirements and stricter training.
Thus, everyone was rest assured they could go outside. It was better than dying inside the grand hall from falling debris or from the monster in case it was able to break all the barriers the magicians made.
. . .
Alwin teleported them to the front yard of the building. The Valeria knights were already there waiting for them. Rendell was there too.
Riley appeared shortly after with Arabella’s family and Andrew’s family.
Riley had teleported the ones from Lahar since Arabella was worried about Sera and they were standing next to her family anyway. It would be weird to get only Sera and she would likely not want to part with Andrew.
"Arabella!" her mother came to hug her.
"Mother, I am alright," she assured her and rubbed her mother’s back.
"Mother, please calm down," Benjamin indirectly reminded their mother that they have not told Arabella about the monster attacks on her that she could not remember.
Their mother bit her lip and tried to act more calmly despite still looking so pale.
"Mother, please do not worry. My husband and his knights are very strong," Arabella beamed brightly.
Seeing her smile made their mother sigh in relief.
[I hope they were that capable indeed. I had been hearing about their feats.] Her brother thought.
[Amazing! How can she smile so brightly even in a situation like this? No wonder so many men fell in love with her.] Sera eyed her with admiration and tried to dry her tears.
’I would probably be screaming or crying now too if this isn’t the second time I am living this life.’
Arabella recalled the first time she encountered monsters. She was stricken with fear back then too and all she could do was scream and cry.
Sera was already doing better crying silently instead of screaming.
"Thank you for helping us get out too," Andrew and his parents thanked them, and Sera recalled giving her thanks first for Arabella worrying about her.
Arabella’s family also gave their thanks.
Shortly after, as the new Representative of the Council, her father left to instruct the leaders of the knights of Medeus about what to do and receive reports about what was going on.
Likewise, her father thought that if this was an attack to ruin the Council, he was a likely target as the new Representative. Thus, he thought it was better if he distanced himself from them so they would not get attacked as well in case someone was targeting him.
It rather made Arabella worry.
Thankfully, it also crossed Ferdinand’s thoughts, so he sent Riley to follow her father.
Alwin would be able to protect everyone here anyway.
Benjamin tried to leave to take command of their knights from Lobelius and provide support for their father.
But their mother did not allow him since in case something happened to their father, he would be the new king of Lobelius and temporarily be the head of the Council until a new one was voted.
Andrew was the same. Sera did not let him leave either though since their child was not even born yet.
The knights had their commanders and captains anyway and they already knew what to do in cases of emergencies like this.
Further, it was the supranational knights of Medeus’ job to keep the safety of Medeus, so this was their duty.
The priority of knights brought in by the royals was to ensure their liege’s safety, and thus they gathered where their lords and ladies were.
They were on standby only to help in killing the monsters when necessary.
. . .
The knights of Medeus began to clash with the monsters. They indeed seemed stronger than the knights from Lobelius or Lahar whom Arabella had had a glimpse of before.
But despite their numbers, Arabella could tell they were having difficulty compared to Ferdinand’s knights when Safiro was attacked by monsters Lindon had sent.
In a matter of minutes, there were already a lot of injured and had to fall back to get treated by magicians from the Great Temple.
Thankfully, they had arrived as well. But Arabella could tell that Alwin’s healing was much faster and more effective compared to theirs. Still, they were very much efficient.
She had heard from stories that one of the Great Temple’s duties was the eradication of monsters. She once thought it was just an exaggerated rumor since she once believed monsters did not exist.
But now, it was clear that it was a fact.
The temple magicians seemed experienced in dealing with situations like this since there was no shred of panic on their faces though they were vexed and frustrated as to why monsters this huge would appear on the palace grounds.
. . .
Ferdinand instructed Alwin to create a barrier around them so Arabella and the others would not be hurt even if dust, shards, and debris came flying in their direction due to the battle.
It was also to protect them in case the monsters attacked them.
{There are people who tried to enter the mansion. I felt them trying to break my barrier there.} Alwin reported to Ferdinand.
{I see. It must be them indeed. They must be here to search for their comrade or try to accomplish what he failed to do.} Ferdinand’s arm tightened around Arabella’s waist.
He hadn’t let go of her since earlier. It was so he could protect her or carry her off instantly in case necessary.
He feared that they might try to hurt Arabella again to seek vengeance for Lindon if they could not find him.
Lindon was imprisoned in one of Alwin’s specialized barriers so he could not get out no matter what he tried to do.
Alwin was confident no one would be able to break it since he had even used it to block attacks from Ferdinand in his dragon form in Estrella.
Alwin had intentionally let out some of Lindon’s presence to let his comrades know he was still alive and use him as bait so they could gather more intel about who he was working for.
And now, they get this kind of attack.
Arabella realized this attack was kind of due to their provocation. No wonder Ferdinand said they would take care of things when necessary.
They were simply watching, for now, to see what the knights of Medeus could do and likewise observe what their enemies were trying to accomplish.
Alwin reported several more attempts to break his barrier around the mansion that had served as their accommodation since the Assembly began.
{Let out some of that mage’s presence here so they would come here instead. Lure them here.} Ferdinand instructed and Alwin obeyed.
’Wait. Wait. Wait. Doesn’t that mean stronger attacks would come here? Mother and Sera already look so pale.’
They failed to note that not everyone here was used to seeing monsters. Not because she was doing fine meant that they could just attract more attacks here.
Arabella gave Ferdinand a frown as a warning, and she was just about to whisper to him, but it was too late.
{I can sense them heading here.} Alwin reported.
"You are both so reckless," Arabella complained in a whisper.
Ferdinand flinched when he looked around and saw the expression on Arabella’s mother.
"Please be rest assured, my knights and I will protect everyone here," Ferdinand told her mother and she merely nodded, still anxious.
[I’m so sorry, I failed to consider this.]
Ferdinand apologized to Arabella through his thoughts.
{The monsters can sense my mana anyway. They are attracted to strong mana, so they would come here anyway.} Alwin added.
As if to show proof, Alwin got out of the barrier and the instant he did, the monsters who were fighting with the knights all paused and glanced in their direction.
Arabella felt her knees shake when all the huge monsters began heading their way.
"You idiot," Ferdinand grabbed Alwin back into the barrier.
"With your reflexes so slow now, they can easily kill you," Ferdinand scolded.
"No, I can fight monsters like this just fine, Your Majesty," Alwin sulked.
"That’s not your job. Let Rendell and the others do it," Ferdinand sighed.
