Chapter 288: Primordial Dragon [Bonus Chapter]

While they had the chance to talk about this, Arabella wanted to maximize it and try to know as much as possible about her husband.

She thought that dragons only breathed fire. But Ferdinand said Thalia was a water dragon. He did say all the primordials breathed fire first and all had a natural affinity with fire before learning other kinds of magic.

"Ferdinand, what kind of dragon are you?"

"I was once classified as an ice dragon since my first habitat was a land of ice and snow. But I’m just called a primordial dragon now."

’I see. No wonder the bridge he made out of magic on the lake was made of ice.’

Ferdinand told her that he lived on an island of ice and snow for quite a while.

He could only use fire breath when he was young but he soon learned fire magic. He used it to win against his opponents and kill those who try to kill him.

But soon, as he stayed longer on the island filled with nothing but ice and snow in all seasons, he learned magic related to the cold. He evolved and adapted to his habitat.

Once he got proficient with it, he used ice magic to drive away other creations from his territory and prevent them from even entering the island. Then, one day the Goddess of Ice herself taught him more about high-level ice magic.

Humans and other races labeled Ferdinand as an ice dragon and called him all sorts of names such as Frost King, Lord of Ice and Snow, Winter Dragon, and so on. It was because letting out his mana froze everything around him. However, that soon changed as he learned the magic related to other elements.

As years went by, he also learned the magical abilities of all the other primordial dragons so he was not limited to his classification anymore. The same was true with the other primordials. They simply labeled themselves according to what kind of magic they first learned and where they were created.

When the Second Generation of dragons were made, Ferdinand was the one who raised the ice dragons among them. The newly created ice dragons were brought to his location by the God of Dragons.

Ferdinand named them Isfrid and Isolde. Isfrid and Isolde became the first ice dragons to have children and their kin became the next generation of ice dragons.

It was through watching over them that Ferdinand learned that the next generation of dragons was different from primordials like himself.

Isfrid, Isolde, and the following generations were born with affinity based on their classification.

Isfrid and Isolde no longer breathed fire since creation. Instead, they were immune to the cold and had powers related to ice. Their breath froze their enemies to death and frost followed them where they went if they do not learn to control their mana.

All the following ice dragons had a natural affinity to ice magic instead of fire and the same is true with the other classification of dragons.

This was why the primordial dragons remained the strongest since they were not limited to their supposed class.

The primordials had evolved repeatedly through their long lives and it was only right to say that they do not really belong to any of the classifications anymore.

This was why they were called the Primordials instead since it could be insulting to limit them to a former class they might not like using anymore.

"Then what do you use now?" Arabella inquired.

"I use magic. A breath filled with oppressive mana that damages or kills my opponent in whatever way I wish. But I do still use the elements. It depends on who I am fighting with. If I use fire, I usually use blue flames."

Ferdinand let out blue flames from one of his fingertips.

’This is like the flame Alwin used to burn Renee’s body,’ Arabella recalled since it looked the same. ’Right, he was the one who taught Alwin.’

She surmised that Alwin must have been using blue flames too because Ferdinand preferred it.

Her husband showed her black and white flames too. If someone else uses blue flame while he was there, he would use a different color of flame or not use fire at all.

Her husband’s memories of the past seem to be just fine. But he said that the hibernation the gods granted them destroyed their memories.

"Ferdinand, did the gods restore your memories that got destroyed when you hibernated?"

"No. There are a lot of things I don’t remember. But since I lost them, then they were not important memories anyway. I remember what I needed to remember so it’s alright," Ferdinand assured her when he noticed she looked worried.

Now she knew why despite living for so long, Ferdinand was so new to a lot of things. He slept for 10,000 years with his memories of the past getting destroyed so he doesn’t remember a lot of things.

There were probably a lot of experiences he thought he never had even if he did. He simply could not remember them anymore.

And all he was doing since he was awakened was protecting Estrella, training those who wished to train under him, and fighting with his fellow dragons. Thus, his experiences for the past 6000 years were limited as well.

The long-lived perceived time differently so they do not rush to experience things. They let time pass by as they wished without the eagerness to try new things.

Ferdinand was the same as well. He was fine with what he was doing so he did not attempt to go beyond it.

Arabella still had a lot of questions but her husband told her to save it for later if she wanted to see the palace grounds today.

She wanted to get a tour of his abode so obediently reserved her questions. At least most of the questions she was most curious about were already answered.

Ferdinand then toured her around the palace and the gardens. Arabella was finally able to see the lake they once had a date on. It was so beautiful in daylight.

It still looked so magical. The water was clear so she could even see the fish swimming in it. It was deep, but the because it was crystal clear and she could see until its depths; she did not feel as scared as she did before.
