Chapter 284: Problems with Reproduction [Bonus Chapter]

The world was ravaged and there were barely a few survivors among all races.

From a billion, only several million of the human race were left after the long-lived races went berserk.

Meanwhile, from a million, the population of the long-lived race dropped to a hundred thousand after humanity’s plot.

But after they went berserk and self-destructed, the long-lived races left were less than fifty thousand. And this number included nature spirits which were the greatest number of survivors.

Nature spirits usually blend in with their natural habitats so humans did not know how to kill most of them. Thus, they were the ones who survived with the most number.

Due to this tragedy, the gods had to make an ultimatum so this won’t happen again. They decided to separate their creations. The long-lived races would no longer live among the humans. The short-lived humans would rule among themselves.

Estrella, the vast continent where the dragons lived, was then isolated from the rest of the world and it was where the long-lived races were to live from then on.

Estrella was hidden and protected by all the gods who created the long-lived races.

The dragons who were almost annihilated realized that they were far too weak compared to their predecessors.

None of them wanted to marry the only female survivor since they realized that they needed a stronger generation if they wanted the dragons to rule again.

The dragons prayed earnestly to the God of Dragons for his help.

Lamenting the death of almost all his creations, the God of Dragons listened to the prayers of the eleven surviving dragons.

The God of Dragons then decided to awaken the slumbering First Generation. They were now called the Ten Primordial Dragons who were sealed to sleep. They had been asleep for ten thousand years.

The other gods agreed to awaken them since they needed the strength of the Ten Primordial Dragons to protect the remaining survivors of the long-lived races.

Ferdinand and his fellow First Generations were then awakened and given a new purpose in life. To protect the long-lived races and help them flourish again.

But first of all, they had to help the world to recover. Their first task was to heal the world which was ravaged by the war between the long-lived races and humanity.

Though the primordial dragons indeed grew weaker due to their destructive hibernation gifted by the gods, they were still more powerful than the rest of the long-lived races.

Before going to Estrella, the Primordial Dragons combined their mana and healed the wasted world so the surviving life could thrive.

It was then that Ferdinand found Alwin. He was just five years old and was hiding in a forest along with some nymphs.

Ferdinand brought back Alwin with him to Estrella and hired the nymphs to take care of him.

Raymond who had voluntarily been Ferdinand’s butler for thousands of years was among the survivors of the dragon race.

Raymond had protected the others and stopped them from going berserk and self-destructing since he was the strongest left after all the others died.

Since Ferdinand was back, Raymond decided to be his butler again and followed him around as he used to do.

Meanwhile, Sirius, the eldest and the first to be created among the Primordial Dragons was crowned as the King of Estrella. The only remaining female dragon among the younger generation, Urania, was bestowed as his wife.

Protecting the long-lived races was not a difficult task for the primordials. But there was one task that proved to be difficult for them. To reproduce.

Several thousands of years of fighting together before they hibernated had proven that the Primordials were not attracted to each other at all.

Thus, they have to wait until Sirius and Urania had children. Once the children mature, the other primordials could marry them. Or they could marry someone from another race.

Dragons do not usually copulate with other races though.

Most of the long-lived races were like this as well since they take a lot of pride in their own race so they usually only marry among their own.

Thus, the primordials decided to wait for Sirius and Urania’s children. But in fact, they were not really interested in getting married or having children.

However, even after years of marriage, Urania did not get pregnant since Sirius was not even interested in her.

At this rate, the dragons might just die out since none of the primordials were attracted to each other.

The dragon survivors of the Great War who had once lost people important to them feared to open up their hearts again so they did not get married either.

This made the God of Dragons use any means he could. He made a deal with the God of Love, the Goddess of Marriage, and the Goddesses of Destiny.

With the god’s interference, Sirius gained back his emotions once again and finally saw his wife as a woman. He fell in love with Urania and they bore fruit. They had twins and they were both male.

However, none of the female primordials were attracted to these children. They could not see them as a future spouse either since all they felt was the urge to protect and raise the younger generation. But that was all.

The other races, even the elves, had already compromised and proceeded with intermarriages between races. There were finally newborns among the long-lived races. But the dragons only had the twins.

They were not attracted to the other races as well. Likewise, marriage among the long-lived races would take too long to result in a child and wait for them to grow up.

The growth of long-lived races usually takes at least several decades to hundreds of years or even thousands of years.

Pregnancy itself can take decades and even several hundred years. And the maturity of a dragon begins from two thousand years old and above. A dragon born in the usual way would only be able to get married once they reach at least 2500 years old.

The humans have already flourished and their numbers had grown once again so the gods who created the long-lived races were getting worried. They can no longer rely on the usual way to increase the number of their creations.
