Chapter 193: Distracting Guard

’Was it just a dream?’

Arabella checked the empty spaces of her bed where Ferdinand would have sat or laid. No part of her bed felt warm aside from what she occupied.

The beddings would have creases and wrinkles too if he sat or laid down. It wasn’t.

Raymond had stopped prohibiting Ferdinand from entering her room so her husband may have visited but she was asleep.

But there was no sign of him.

Maybe she was just imagining it.

Then, she recalled, if Ferdinand did visit her, he may have left traces on her body. She could barely recall a soft touch on her lips and breasts. Her husband could have done something last night.

In her past life, she had experienced several times waking to Ferdinand doing pervy things to her body while she was asleep.

Those were on the times she thought he wouldn’t visit her chambers but she would wake up in the middle of the night feeling hot and tingly because of his way of waking her up.

Arabella rushed to the mirror to check her lips. It wasn’t swollen. Her face was fine too. Her neck is clean. No kiss or bite marks. She undressed just to make sure. Her body was fine too.

’I see. It must have been a dream.’

She dressed once again and rang the bell for her maids to enter. They helped her bathe and get dressed.

Arabella didn’t get the chance to ask Renee about her origins yet because she got busy. Renee might wonder too why she suddenly asks about it.

Thus, Arabella planned to speak with her four handmaids and ask them all sorts of questions so it wouldn’t just be Renee.

It would be a way of getting to know them too. There would surely be things she didn’t know about them in her past life since she was absorbed with her own problems then.

Arabella prepared for breakfast and was surprised to find Alwin instead of Rendell guarding her door.

He greeted her a good morning and all of Arabella’s maids were effortlessly charmed by Alwin.

Carla and Irene were screaming inside their heads and were giving knowing glances to each other. They even glanced at Renee too and the latter glared at them.

Renee was pretending to be calm but her eyes returned to Alwin and stayed. Her thoughts were much worse than the former too.

Eunice was charmed as well but Alwin was too beautiful to be her type. She was just adoring Alwin because it couldn’t be helped since he was indeed too attractive to ignore.

Arabella cleared her throat and they recalled they have to greet Alwin too.

After all, Alwin was the lord of the Magic Tower and he was the best magician in all of the Empire. He was not just Ferdinand’s personal mage but also an advisor.

As the highest Royal Magician, Alwin almost had the same ranking as Raymond. Except, Raymond had more power because he had control over the ministers and was known in the social circle while Alwin was a mystery to most.

"Greetings to Your Eminence," the maids greeted and Alwin just gave a curt nod before offering his hand to escort Arabella.

"Where is Rendell?" Arabella inquired since from the thoughts of her maids, it was Rendell guarding the door when they entered.

"He had some matters to attend to so I will be Your Majesty’s guard for today," Alwin said and Arabella frowned. Just when she thought she would ask Rendell if Ferdinand came last night.

Alwin was too critical of her so Arabella didn’t want to ask him.

Her maids were delighted though since it meant they would be seeing this beauty for a whole day.

"Why? Aren’t you busy? My other guards can shift with Rendell as usual."

Arabella was worried Alwin’s presence might cause her maids to be distracted the whole day instead of doing their work.

Odette, Nadia, and Narcissa were there to be worried about too. They might get distracted with work due to Alwin.

[Right. Why didn’t I just disguise as Rendell or any of her guards? But Rendell doesn’t talk much and her other guards do not even dare to utter a word aside from the usual greetings. They are all tongue-tied because of her appearance.]

"Does Your Majesty, not like me as your guard?" Alwin asked with a smile and Arabella had to glance behind her because she heard squeals and someone supported herself with the walls dramatically acting all overwhelmed.

They all pretended to be behaved when Arabella glanced at them. But she could tell from their flushed cheeks and shining eyes. They had all sorts of thoughts too.

Three of her maids begged her with their eyes not to send Alwin away. Arabella already knew though before they even acted on it because their thoughts were so loud.

"No. I was just asking since I don’t want to impose on Your Eminence," Arabella replied and her maids sighed in relief.

[She seems grumpy today. She’s suddenly addressing me formally. She could just call me by name since it’s just her maids with her anyway. Did something happen last night, after all?]

’Huh? What does he mean?’

She did intentionally call him ’Your Eminence’ since he diverted the topic.

"Not at all. I was done with my tasks in the Magic Tower. His Majesty still had not lifted his order for me to guard Your Majesty as well so it is also my duty," Alwin replied and Arabella wondered why he wasn’t internally complaining he had to guard her today.

"Did Your Majesty sleep well?" Alwin inquired.

Arabella was surprised since Alwin does not usually ask such questions. He doesn’t do small talk with her.

[Hmm. Nothing seems wrong with her. As long as she’s fine.] Alwin eyed her from head to foot.

[Kyaah! He’s staring at Her Majesty! This is so sinful!] Irene was internally screaming.

[Does he like Her Majesty?! I have no chance if that’s the case.] Carla was brokenhearted.

[No, no, no. This shouldn’t be. Don’t you dare! You are mine! How dare you look at another woman like this right in front of me?!] Renee was raging.

Eunice had already excused herself earlier to do another task.
