Chapter 194: A Dangerous Visitor [Bonus Chapter]

"I did. I was exhausted yesterday so I slept soundly. Thank you for your concern," Arabella did her usual professional smile so her maids would not misunderstand.

’Why is Alwin suddenly worried about me?’

"I see. I am relieved Your Majesty was able to rest well. I heard you have been working a lot. Please don’t overwork yourself, else His Majesty would be furious."

’Oh, so that was it. He just didn’t want to get scolded. I thought something was up.’

Arabella’s maids sighed in relief as well. They were glad they just jumped to conclusions and there was no truth to their assumptions.

"Of course. Speaking of His Majesty, did you bring him back last night?" She meant if Alwin teleported him.

"No. I was busy last night."

’Oh, so I really just dreamed about Ferdinand. Am I missing him?’

"I see. I thought I saw him. Must be a dream," Arabella said and Carla and Irene did their best not to squeal loudly since they thought she was indeed missing her husband.

[I didn’t teleport His Majesty but Riley did. His Majesty called for me but I felt a presence that shouldn’t have been in the palace so I sent Riley instead. If she saw His Majesty, it must be when she stirred for a bit.]

Arabella learned that Ferdinand did visit her last night but he told Rendell and everyone else who saw him to keep it a secret.

Moreover, Alwin felt a dangerous presence in the palace so he instantly teleported right outside Arabella’s room to ensure she was safe.

Alwin seemed panicked about the said presence so Arabella wondered who it was to make the confident Alwin to worry this much.

She learned from his thoughts that he purposely took Rendell’s place so he could inspect her today.

[I must be overthinking. Maybe he just passed by the palace. His presence only lasted for several seconds after all.]

Alwin had apparently checked the spells he had formerly cast around Arabella’s room and none of it was broken. There was no sign of anyone entering her room as well.

[But His Majesty asked to teleport him back to the palace right at the same moment. Did he feel the presence too? No, if he did, he would have asked me to put up more protective barriers than the ones he asked me to put up last night. Still, he must have instinctively felt it for him to visit Her Majesty last night. He doesn’t remember, but his soul must still feel and know it unconsciously.]

Arabella wondered what Alwin was thinking about. Who was that dangerous presence to have alerted this Alwin much and could possibly still be felt by Ferdinand when he was so far away?

’I was sleeping so soundly when such a dangerous person could have roamed around the palace last night?’

Arabella wished she at least had some danger radar. She was sleeping so soundly that she didn’t even wake up even when she thought she saw Ferdinand.

She learned from Alwin’s thoughts that Ferdinand stayed in her room for hours and left before dawn.

But of course, he made Alwin put up more protective barriers since Alwin had to say the reason why he didn’t go to Ferdinand when he was called.

[It was hard lying to His Majesty but I was able to pull it off.]

Alwin apparently couldn’t say whose presence he felt so he lied to Ferdinand and said he doesn’t know but he was sure it was someone powerful. He didn’t go to Ferdinand because he felt a dangerous presence and prioritized Arabella and the palace’s safety

And Ferdinand even praised Alwin for it. Ferdinand said to always prioritize Arabella’s safety no matter what.

With how Alwin’s thoughts went, he already knew who that dangerous person was but he was not necessarily here to do some harm. Alwin was just alerted since it was someone who knew about Estrellians.

Arabella was dying to know who it was but Alwin never once thought of a name or the identity of the person. Alwin just referred to it as a ’him.’

But when Arabella stopped walking and looked into Alwin’s eyes as he thought of that person, she saw a dashing man clad in black. And somehow, he looked familiar.

Arabella gasped when all of a sudden, she recalled a distant memory from the past. One she couldn’t recall clearly before.

It was when Arabella was just a child and she escaped outside of her room at night to collect some flowers. She wasn’t afraid since it was clear outside. There were light decorations here and there too.

Little Arabella passed by one of their ponds and saw a glowing flower floating in the middle of the pond.

It was the most beautiful flower she had seen in her life so she walked close to the pond.

And when she did, she saw a man sitting beside the flower and admiring it. He glanced at her, and beckoned for her to come closer.

The young Arabella glanced at the water but when she looked at the man’s foot, he was floating on it. No, he was stepping on it like it was solid ground.

Perhaps, it was fine for her too.

"Do you like this flower?" he asked.

"Yes."

"Then come and take it. Don’t worry, you can walk on it," he gestured to the water.

The young Arabella then tried to step on the water. And surprisingly, her feet didn’t sink the way it does in the bath.

Her shoes did not even get wet.

It gave her courage and she walked to the flower.

It was even more beautiful up close. And it was huge.

She wanted to get it and show it to everyone so she yanked it from the water but could not pull it off.

And the instant she did, the man was gone and she began to sink into the water.

Young Arabella tightly gripped the stalk of flower which was the only thing preventing her from sinking.

But the flower vanished and she fell into the now, dark pond as the light of the huge glowing flower was gone.

Little Arabella flailed around.

And she was sure she was screaming but the water stopped her. And something wrapped around her ankles, dragging her down.

She sank deeper and deeper and when was losing consciousness since she could no longer breathe, someone pulled her out of the water.
