Chapter 148: Can We Talk [Bonus Chapter]
It could have been for humans to be wary, and fearful in case they meet one.
However, since Estrella hadn’t conquered the world, doesn’t it mean they were simply not interested?
But then, Arabella recalled something she learned from history class. Valeria Empire was the only power in Eliora and the entire world that had never lost a territory it had conquered.
’W-wait! Is Valeria their starting point?!’
Arabella blinked repeatedly when she realized that ever since its founding, Valeria’s borders kept on widening.
’Are they gradually doing it over time to not make the presence of the long-lived races too obvious?!’
But she didn’t get any such thought from Ferdinand, Raymond, or Alwin. They were not planning on conquering new territories either.
Ferdinand did send a letter to Crux but he has no plans to make the said kingdom a part of Valeria.
Arabella tried to shake off the thoughts. Since she was the first princess of Lobelius and the Empress of Valeria for years in her past life, it was now ingrained in her to be wary of new powers. This was why she couldn’t help but worry if the rulers of Estrella had plans to conquer the world.
Ferdinand is her husband so she would probably be safe. But what about Lobelius?
They were allies through marriage now but if other people had power over Ferdinand and could replace him as the Emperor if he was too biased toward Arabella’s home country, it meant they were not really safe.
Should she rethink her plans about giving birth to Fermin and wait until Ferdinand was honest with her? She needs more information about Estrella to know if Fermin would truly be safe.
What if she gives birth to him only to make him suffer anew? She doesn’t want that. She wants her son to be able to live a safe, carefree, and happy life this time.
Fermin would be able to live a long life due to Ferdinand’s blood so she doesn’t want him to be burdened with siding with humans or with Estrellians in case there was a great war between the two.
Arabella sighed and tried to shake the thoughts off for now. She would think about it more deeply later.
Since Alwin used too much mana, making it rain all over Safiro was scheduled for the next day so he could recover.
They said their goodbyes to Esmeralda and Blanca and returned to the palace to rest.
Meanwhile, the Safirans were celebrating in glee and this day would one day be written in their history as the day their guardian deity was revived.
Riley teleported them to the Imperial Palace and Arabella was about to head to her room since she thought Ferdinand would go back to Safiro once again but he held her hand.
"Please wait. Can we talk?" Ferdinand asked with his usual poker face even though his thoughts that reached her were filled with so much hesitation and nervousness.
[I said it. What should I say next? She’s not going to refuse, right?]
It was somewhat adorable how he can also be this much of a worrywart.
[She must be tired and probably wants to rest now but I need to know why she got angry at me earlier. What if she disliked and hated me because of it?]
’He is still hung up on that? I thought he already forgot. I’m not even irritated with him anymore.’
[She wouldn’t be even more annoyed with me that I’m asking for more of her time when she’s supposed to rest, right?]
’He’s actually so thoughtful. I’m glad I can hear his thoughts.’
"Sure. Where should we speak?" Arabella agreed.
[I didn’t think that far. Where should I invite her?
[My office? No, it’s like we are talking about work. I don’t want her to think our relationship was just political.
[The garden? No, I already invited her to the garden last time. What if she thought I’m not thinking of pleasing her at all?
[My room? No, no, no. It’s like I’m asking her to sleep with me. What if she thought I was rushing her despite saying I would wait...]
Ferdinand was in a panic thinking of all sorts of places but he always found a reason to not invite her to it. He didn’t realize he had been silent for a while and just stared at her with a frown on his face.
If this was her in the past life, she would have run away from him and cried thinking that he was angry with her and was showing his dissatisfaction but was not voicing it out because he had to keep her as his Empress. Or that he doesn’t want to talk to her at all.
Who would have thought times like this were just Ferdinand pondering over things in his mind before speaking to her?
Yet, in her past life, she had run away from him a lot of times because he would just stare at her like this without saying anything.
’I actually ruined the times we could have talked because I wasn’t patient enough to wait till he said something. If I had waited until he was able to choose the right words, could we have talked about a lot of things and improved our relationship?’
She tried waiting for Ferdinand this time but he took so long. He might keep thinking forever so she decided to speak up first.
Ferdinand also needs to realize he should say something first before suddenly going into silence for long. If she couldn’t hear his thoughts she would have thought he disliked her so much to even bother speaking with her.
Even Riley thought so. He was even amazed that Arabella did not run away in tears after Ferdinand stared at her with such an expression on his face.
"What about the balcony of one the highest rooms in the palace where the view of the sunset is most beautiful?" Arabella suggested and Ferdinand finally had a clue about where to bring her.
