Chapter 147: Limiters

Chapter 147: Limiters

"Alwin, what was that about?"

Arabella watched as Ferdinand glared at his mage for doing something without warning. Or rather, he just didn’t like their sudden hug time getting disturbed.

"My apologies. I thought I should also grow trees on the empty spaces near the residential area to be cut for building materials."

Alwin acted as if he was innocent and didn’t see them embracing each other. He continued growing more trees. Until...

[Eh? What’s this? I can’t use any more mana?! This is the maximum of what I can use here?!]

Arabella glanced at Alwin and his complexion wasn’t good.

[Huh?! Why am I feeling dizzy?]

Arabella gasped when Alwin seemed to lose his balance and began falling.

Rendell was quick to move and supported Alwin.

"Please drink this," Riley suddenly appeared and handed something to Alwin. Without a word, Alwin immediately drank it.

Alwin trusted him since Riley was apparently his personal butler back in Estrella. However, Riley’s task was more often that of a magic experiments’ assistant than a personal butler.

[Recovery potion?!] Alwin repeatedly blinked after drinking it. His complexion improved a bit and he was finally able to stand on his own.

[I had to drink a recovery potion?!] Alwin gawked at the empty container of the potion he had just drank.

"Please don’t use too much mana again until you run on empty. It’s not good for the body," Riley warned and Alwin blinked repeatedly.

Alwin couldn’t believe he had truly used up all of his mana and had to drink a recovery potion.

Arabella learned that Alwin had so much mana that he never had to drink a recovery potion before so for him, this was his first. And it was a stain on his reputation. He also felt embarrassed about having to be supported by Rendell especially since Ferdinand was around. He didn’t want his lord to think he was weak.

[That pegasus stole more mana than I thought.] Alwin glanced at Blanca and the latter flinched. She bowed in apology.

[Thank goodness I had this in advance. When the trees stopped growing as tall as the others due to the sudden cut of the mana supply I knew this was what happened. Milord must be shocked to have run out of mana. He never needed to use recovery potions in Estrella so I know he never made recovery potions for himself.]

It was a relief that someone was actually worrying about Alwin’s health and well-being since all he worried about was Ferdinand.

When they had to stay in Valeria, in secret, Riley made recovery potions specialized for Alwin in case this happens.

’Isn’t that a bit too much overconfidence?’ Arabella thought someone as thorough as Alwin would think of backups. It can be understood though since he never needed one before.

She made a face when she learned from Alwin’s thoughts that he had actually made recovery potions for Ferdinand but did not make one for himself. He just realized he also needed to make some for himself.

"This is exactly why I didn’t tell you to grow the entire forest. Esmeralda could have done it gradually later. Just some trees here and there would have been fine," Ferdinand scolded since Alwin was his personal mage. If this was a battlefield, it could have meant life and death for the knights.

[I told him I could have provided mana for Esmeralda and Blanca myself but he insisted he would do it all. Now it came to this.] Ferdinand sighed and Alwin flinched.

Arabella learned that it was supposed to be Ferdinand who would give the two some of his mana but Alwin didn’t want him to use his mana for such matters and so all of it became Alwin’s task.

[Is my lord angry?!! Does he think I’m useless?!] Alwin was in a panic thought Ferdinand was not even in the least bit thinking along those lines.

"Know your limits."

{This is the human realm. Don’t forget you had been given limiters so you won’t affect the flora and fauna here.}

"My deepest apologies. I would be more careful next time."

"Return to the Magic Tower and rest."

"Yes, Your Majesty."

Arabella didn’t hear the rest since she was hung up on something else.

’Affect the flora and fauna?!’ she was dumbstruck by those words.

Arabella was stunned as she learned from their thoughts that one of the reasons Ferdinand had to be in a human body bestowed by the God of Dragons was because if he came in his original body, the human realm which didn’t have as much mana as before would be severely affected due to the monstrous amount that naturally comes from a dragon.

Alwin was an elf but he had trained a lot and had too much mana now. Thus, even though he was allowed to go out of Estrella in his original body, he was given a lot of limiters, or else his mana would affect the flora and fauna.

The mana oozing from him could apparently make plants grow and even evolve animals and monsters alike if he was not given limiters. It could also be harmful to humans who were not used to exposure to higher amounts of mana.

[It was not our fault that the world now didn’t have as much mana as before. So what if its balance would be so easily affected by me or a single highborn dragon getting out from Estrella in their original body. Wouldn’t it be better to release a lot of mana in this mana-deficient place?] Alwin internally complained.

’They held that much power?!’ Arabella was overwhelmed by how powerful Estrella was. They could have taken over the world if they wanted. If they just sent dragons out of Estrella in their original body, they could have done as they pleased with the world.

It was no wonder humans were very much wary of them. Perhaps it was a way of self-preservation. Humans knew by instinct that the long-lived races were far too powerful. Maybe it was why they were almost always portrayed as evil in the myths and legends in Eliora.
