Chapter 135: Just Playing Around

The people screamed as the gigantic monsters tried to break the barrier Alwin had made.

But thankfully, despite many hits and clawing from the monsters, not a single scratch, crack, or dent was made to the barrier.

[She’s scared this time.] Ferdinand thought and Arabella flinched when she realized she was tightly hugging his arm.

She looked up and blushed in embarrassment when their eyes met. She said earlier that there was nothing to fear since he was around but here she was hugging his arm in fear.

Arabella let go of his arm and hid her hands behind her back.

[She’s so adorable.] Ferdinand smiled slightly and patted her head.

"I will vanquish them all so they won’t bother you anymore," Ferdinand said and Arabella fidgeted as he was about to leave her side. "Wait here for me. Rendell and Riley will guard you in the interim."

[I won’t allow anything or anyone to hurt you. Over my dead my body.]

Arabella nodded, trying to look as calm as she could.

She was the Empress so she had to show her trust in the knights and in Ferdinand. She shouldn’t show her fear or else the people would panic even more.

This was one of her duties as a noblewoman and as an Empress; to stay calm and collected even in such times to prevent panic and chaos. She could still recall her mother telling her they have to remain rational enough to think straight to be able guide and protect their people in emergencies.

Ferdinand gave a sign and the knights retreated into the barrier.

"Guard the Safirans, the magician may still have a few tricks up his sleeve," Ferdinand instructed the knights.

"Yes, Your Majesty."

[Everyone was just warming up though. Why is his Majesty so impatient today?]

Arabella raised a brow when the Knight Commander glanced at her.

[Oh, I see. He didn’t want Her Majesty to keep getting watching the monsters to run amok. I heard she almost died from monsters before.]

Ferdinand removed the Emperor’s ring on his finger and it turned into a huge and heavy-looking sword. It looked so sharp and dangerous.

’His ring functions as a sword?!’

This was the first time Arabella saw it. In her previous life, Ferdinand usually had his men hand him a sword when he executed someone on the spot.

The knights were awed at the sight of the sword since according to their thoughts, it had been a while since Ferdinand used it.

Arabella learned that the Emperor’s ring turns into a sword of the wearer’s liking. Ferdinand’s was too heavy that even most of the knights would have a difficulty just lifting it. Using it in battle was impossible for them. It was a weapon geared for only for him.

Arabella thought he would kill the monsters with the knights, but Ferdinand fearlessly walked out of the barrier all alone.

It made her a bit nervous seeing him outside the barrier with those gigantic monsters.

’I know he is strong and all, but isn’t it dangerous facing them all by himself? What if the others attack him while he was busy with one of them?’

Arabella gulped and gripped the hem of her skirt. She took a sharp intake of breath internally praying for her husband’s safety. This was the first time in a decade ever since she hated him in her past life.

But it seems she didn’t need to worry at all.

Ferdinand slashed at the monster closest to him and it fell to the ground. He leaped on top of it and cut off the monster’s arms when it tried to grab him. He aimed for its weakness and the monster vanished.

Arabella’s grip tightened on her skirt when two monsters approached him but Ferdinand cut them in half without having to get too close. His sword seems to be special.

She learned from Rendell and Riley’s thoughts that the sword absorbs Ferdinand’s mana and were released in varying amounts depending on how he attacks. Thus, Ferdinand didn’t need to get too close to be able to inflict damage or kill his enemies. However, Ferdinand apparently only uses this sword when they are fighting monsters.

Ferdinand was the type to enjoy the fight after all. He wasn’t the kind to just kill when they could keep fighting instead.

Arabella almost screamed when a monster attacked Ferdinand from behind. But he turned around so quickly and cut it up to pieces until it vanished.

’That was close. I thought he was going to get hurt,’ Arabella held her chest as she sighed in relief.

[She’s worried about me?! This is the first time I see such an expression on her face. I’m so happy she actually worries about my safety.]

Arabella flinched when she heard Ferdinand’s thoughts.

’What the hell is he doing looking in my direction at such a dangerous time?! This idiot. He should just focus on killing the monsters.’

She wanted to give Ferdinand a good scolding but she screamed instead when a monster attacked Ferdinand while he wasn’t looking.

Thankfully, he eliminated it with ease again.

[She just screamed my name in panic didn’t she?] Ferdinand thought and Arabella covered her mouth. She glanced around and sighed in relief when the Safirans also screamed at the same time so they didn’t hear her.

Rendell and Riley smiled at her though. They heard her since they were both so calm about everything.

[His Majesty must be trying to show off to Her Majesty. Or was he trying to test to see if Her Majesty worries about him?] Rendell thought and Arabella frowned when she realized that Ferdinand had indeed kept giving her side glances so it wouldn’t be too obvious the others.

She learned from Rendell and Riley’s thoughts that Ferdinand could actually cut up all the monsters there with one hit if he wanted to. But he was killing those who came near him first instead of slashing them all in one go.

Ferdinand wasn’t fighting seriously and was just playing around.

I won’t go into much detail during battles since fight scenes take too long. This is a romance genre after all. Lol.
