Chapter 208: Opening the Treasure Chest

Chapter 208: Chapter 208: Opening the Treasure Chest

Numerous jade boxes lay here. Although no one knew their contents, the boxes themselves were priceless, each carved from the finest jade.

Rather than let them gather dust, she decided she should put them to good use.

Gu Qingli quickly brought Wuqing and five others into the Space. Then, she had Xiao Yunjing carry her to the crystal coffin.

She closed her eyes, her consciousness enveloping everything in the grand hall.

When a dull ache throbbed in her head, Gu Qingli mentally commanded, Enter.

Her vision blurred, and then she was inside the Space.

But the moment she arrived, a sharp pain shot through her head, and she fainted.

"Li’er!"

Xiao Yunjing, seeing the woman in his arms suddenly go limp, cried out. He quickly brought his face close to Gu Qingli’s. Only when her warm breath fanned his cheek did he sigh in relief.

Without a glance at what they had brought in, he carried Gu Qingli to the bedroom, removed her outer clothes and shoes, and gently laid her on the bed.

After tucking her in, he sat by the bedside, holding her hand and gazing worriedly at the unconscious Gu Qingli.

Her face was ashen, and a fine sheen of sweat had beaded on her forehead.

Xiao Yunjing hurriedly wiped it away.

Wuqing and the others occasionally peeked in from the doorway. Finally, Wuyou asked, "Young Master, is Miss alright?"

Without raising his head, Xiao Yunjing said, "Come in and check on Li’er."

"Alright."

Wuyou entered, and Xiao Yunjing moved aside.

Wuyou immediately took Gu Qingli’s pulse.

It was stable, with no adverse symptoms.

"How is she?" Xiao Yunjing asked anxiously.

"Miss is fine. She’ll be alright once she wakes up. I’ll go prepare some food for her," Wuyou said before leaving.

Gu Qingli was indeed fine. She had merely fainted from overexerting her mental energy; a good sleep was all she needed.

As soon as Wuyou stepped out, Wuqing and the others crowded around her. "Wuyou, is Miss really alright?"

Wuyou shot Wuqing a look. "Are you hoping Miss is in trouble? I already said she’s fine. She just overused her mental energy."

Wuyou also gestured towards the pile of things Gu Qingli had moved into the Space.

The others listened, nodding with a semblance of understanding, but none of them were interested in examining the items anymore.

They would wait for their Miss to wake up and inspect them herself.

Gu Qingli slept for a full twelve hours before hunger finally woke her.

"You’re awake!"

Xiao Yunjing’s heart lightened with joy. Li’er’s awake, so she must be fine now.

"Mmm, I’m starving," Gu Qingli said, rubbing her belly.

"Food’s ready," Xiao Yunjing said, lifting her into a chair and arranging the dishes on the table.

At the sight of the food, Gu Qingli began to eat ravenously.

Xiao Yunjing watched her, his lips twitching slightly. Good thing I can afford to feed her, he mused. Actually, her own fortune is more than enough to support her. I feel like a kept man here. Still, I don’t mind one bit living off my wife.

"Finally full!" Gu Qingli sighed in satisfaction. Ever since becoming pregnant with their little one, she couldn’t stand being even slightly hungry.

Xiao Yunjing gently stroked her hair, helped her with her shoes and clothes, then took her hand. "Come on, let’s go see the fruits of your labor."

"How many are there? You haven’t opened them yet?" Hearing they were going to inspect the boxes, Gu Qingli perked up and strode towards the door.

Xiao Yunjing quickly moved to support her from behind. Seeing her round belly and quick pace, his heart nearly leaped into his throat.

"Slow down! We haven’t opened them; we’re waiting for you."

"Oh, so how many are there?"

"You brought everything in."

The couple chatted as they arrived before the pile of jade boxes.

Yun No. 20 and the others had already neatly arranged the jade boxes, leaving only the crystal coffin where it was.

"Let them open it."

"Alright."

Xiao Yunjing gestured, and Yun No. 20 and Yun No. 18 came over. Even Da Bai, who hadn’t been seen for a while, appeared and lay down beside Gu Qingli.

"Open them," Xiao Yunjing nodded at the two men.

Time to open the treasures! Yun No. 20 and Yun No. 18 went over excitedly. They gripped the copper locks and, with a sharp twist, wrenched them off.

"Let’s move back a little."

Before the lids were lifted, Xiao Yunjing led Gu Qingli back a few steps.

Yun No. 20 and Yun No. 18 waited until they were at a safe distance before carefully opening the first box.

"WOW! So many treasures!"

The moment Yun No. 20 opened the jade box, the gleam of gold and silver jewelry, sparkling with gems, filled their vision.

He picked up a dazzling golden phoenix crown, his eyes glued to it.

Only then did Xiao Yunjing help Gu Qingli approach. Hearing the excited cries, Wuqing and the other three women also hurried over.

"WOW! There really is so much!" The four women, including Wuqing, each picked up an item to examine.

Gu Qingli gazed at the heaps of gold and silver jewelry, nearly blinded by their brilliance. The gold ornaments were exquisitely crafted, each piece a veritable treasure.

They were a hundred times more beautiful than the items from Dean Lin’s collection, and a hundred times more valuable.

Take the phoenix crown in Yun No. 20’s hands, for instance. The phoenix atop it was so lifelike it seemed a real bird had just alighted there.

The jade items were crystal clear, with a rich luster and translucency far surpassing that of modern jade. Of course, this is only compared to the jade I’ve seen before, she thought. I’ve never encountered genuine imperial jade artifacts.

Gu Qingli noted that there were fewer silver items, mostly larger pieces like silver bowls, chopsticks, and cups.

However, despite the priceless nature of the items, Gu Qingli didn’t touch a single one.

No one could be certain if they harbored some unforeseen danger.

Xiao Yunjing also stayed back, continuing to support her.

After the six of them—Yun No. 20, Yun No. 18, Wuqing, and the three other women—had their fill of exclamations, they moved on to open the remaining boxes.

There were ninety-nine jade boxes in total. Each was about three feet high, six feet long, and three feet wide, and every item within was a masterpiece.

The final ten boxes were entirely filled with gold bricks, stacked so neatly they seemed custom-fitted into the boxes.

As Yun No. 20, Yun No. 18, Wuqing, and the others continued opening boxes and examining treasures, they eventually grew desensitized to the spectacle.

Soon, only the sounds of boxes being opened could be heard, their initial cries of wonder having faded.

Finally, only the crystal coffin remained.

"Li’er, let’s go back inside the house." Before they opened the coffin, Xiao Yunjing picked Gu Qingli up and carried her back into their room.

Gu Qingli understood. Xiao Yunjing doesn’t want me to see a corpse, she thought, so she didn’t insist. It really isn’t proper for a pregnant woman to view the dead.

Outside, Yun No. 20 and Yun No. 18 once again bowed three times to the crystal coffin.

"Yun No. 18, let’s do it," Yun No. 20 called out.

Yun No. 18 nodded.

Wuqing and the other three women stood guard nearby.

"One, two, THREE!" As Yun No. 20 finished the count, both men heaved together, pushing the heavy crystal lid open.

The moment the lid slid open, a peculiar, sweet fragrance wafted out.

"Huh, it smells quite nice! Doesn’t seem dangerous. Let’s take a look!" Yun No. 20 said cheerfully.

Everyone gathered around.

"Heavens, is this person alive or dead?!" Yun No. 20 exclaimed.

Six pairs of eyes stared, transfixed and bewildered, at the body in the crystal coffin, which looked as if it were merely asleep.
