Chapter 69: Unwinnable (1)
As he falls back into the shadows he quickly begins to move about the room while looking to see how many more men are in the room.
I doubt he’d be the only one in the room with me since they’d expect reinforcements to come rushing in to help protect the king. He doesn’t realize that this is an unwinnable battle for him and his army.
Even if I die here today in some way, I’ll come back to kill them all again with even more brutal methods than before. I really have grown more accustomed to killing people in this world.
I’ve yet to decide if that’s a good or bad thing yet but it doesn’t matter when people are dying for the right reasons. I’m sure it’ll weigh on me later on regardless of how I’m feeling about it now.
"Don’t waste time on him, find the king and save him before the Ravens kill him." The girls voice whispers to him.
It would be a waste of time with the kind of energy I have right now for me to fight him anyway. I need all the energy I can get to stop the enemies ahead of me.
King Kuroda I’m coming to help you, even if you don’t know who I am just yet. I’ll make sure that you have good reasons to remember me in the future.
He continues to make his way into the throne room where the kings last remaining guards are fighting against a bunch of the ravens. The room reaked of blood and the bodies were already all over the place so it wasn’t a nice sight to see.
People were dying all around him and he didn’t have a lot of time to work with here. Luckily the room was lit up so there was plenty of of opportunities for him to continue using his shadows.
I can see everything clearly right now so it’s the best chance for me to fight now before I lose it. Breathe in and breathe out. You can do this Artemis, stop them from killing the king.
Artemis teleports within his shadows as he begins to take out the ravens one by one, leaving trails of blood with each one he stabs his sword through.
Thud. Thud. Thud. Bodies continue to hit the floor as he goes about the room, taking them out with ease. The king and his last two guards watch as they try to comprehend what’s happening right now.
It’s easy to do this when I have such a big advantage over them right now— Shadows are a lot stronger than I could’ve imagined when I first asked for it. I really did make the right choice when I decided my abilities and powers.
I thought it was originally going to just be some sort of magic but it’s a lot more than that. "You’ve still not used most of the abilities that you do know about. Shows how you’ve grown so far." The girl says with a bit of happiness in her voice.
I’m glad to hear that I’m growing, especially from her of all people since she’s the main source of everything. I don’t think I’d be capable of doing any of this if she wasn’t around.
Then again, she wasn’t there when I killed someone for the first time. That’s something I often forget about... Probably because it’s a traumatic experience for me to think about from time to time.
My family’s death was definitely a way to push me over the edge, especially in a world where I genuinely had a good family.
Before he knew it the room was cleared out, no more ravens were in the room to stop him or to kill the king. Reinforcements wouldn’t be far out since the barracks wasn’t very far anyway.
Step. Step. Footsteps could be heard approaching before the man with black and red armor finally could be seen again. "You ran away from me boy, how rude of you." He says with a bit of disappointment to his voice.
I knew he wouldn’t just wait for me to attack him but I hoped that after his men were defeated that he’d fall back or something. Instead he decided to come to me directly, how great for me.
I’m definitely feeling like I’m at my limit with what else I can do against him with my shadows. I’ll have to rely on the speed I have left and my swordsmanship since it’s helped me out plenty.
This guy couldn’t possibly be anywhere near the strength of the reaper of Helfri, that was probably my strongest opponent yet. If anyone would keep me in a loop it would’ve been them.
I’ve just been getting lucky with some fights while others not so much.
Artemis comes out from the shadows with his sword drenched in blood. "I was just dealing with the other nuisances that you brought into the keep." Artemis says.
The man’s sword was already drawn. "You won’t stand in my way, I’ll kill you and then the king." He replied with a bit of anger in his voice.
Dash! Clang!!! Their swords clashed against one another as a gust of wind blows back from the impact. "I’m real interested to see how that’ll go." Artemis says while pushing back against him.
It was noticeable that Artemis was slowly pushing him back as his feet begin to move with each moment. Even without his shadows he was able to use quite a bit of strength to push back against the man.
King Kuroda watched from the sidelines as some random man fought to protect him against these assassins. He didn’t really know what to say to it since he was never one to be saved before.
Usually he’s always been able to handle problems like this without an issue in sight but this was different. He felt as if he knew who these attackers were, someone close to him.
