Chapter 70: Unwinnable (2)
Something about him feels off but I don’t think that’s anything to worry about since I’ve felt that a lot lately. I’m starting to think it’s just a natural feeling in this world.
Kick! Artemis breaks through the defense and kicks the man away from him a few meters. "You are quite strong kid. I’m sure you’d make a great addition to my army if you would’ve joined." He says while balancing himself.
I’d never want to work for some army of assassins in a world like this where people are doing that for the wrong reasons. At least we are killing people for the right reasons.
We are trying to prevent the world from ending while these guys are just helping in bringing the end of the world. I won’t let that happen if I can help it, no matter how hard it may be.
He dashes in towards the man and brings his sword down instantly. There’s no time for the man to block it and it cuts down the center of his chest without an issue.
Step. Slash! Within another swift move Artemis slashes across his chest again while moving around. Blood slowly begins to show itself as it drips down from the cuts across the man’s armor.
"You also know how to use that sword pretty well." He says while beginning to breathe heavy.
Artemis swings his sword around as he looks towards the man. "Of course I do. I’ve fought stronger people than you." Artemis replies while still keeping a serious tone.
He’s a lot slower than I expected him to be... What kind of assassins are this slow when fighting? I’m starting to think that they make the other assassins look bad but I guess everyone can’t be good at everything.
As I said before, this was unwinnable for them from the start. There was no chance that they would win this battle when they are facing someone like me.
"You’re quite the cocky one, I’ll shut you up." He manages to say before running towards Artemis.
He begins to swing his sword relentless with hopes of it doing something to Artemis somehow. Each swing contained a bit more strength behind it as he swung the sword but none manage to connect with him.
I can tell that he’s trying to give it his all now, at least that’s what I’m gathering from how he’s fighting. There’s no real technique or style to it though. He’s just swinging in hopes that he’ll be able to catch me with one of these attacks.
Fighting recklessly doesn’t always work, but people can get away with it in games sometimes because you can try again. This isn’t the same scenario for him though so I’d have gone a different approach if I was him.
Artemis dodges all the attacks before bringing his blade upwards, slicing off the man’s hand in an instant. Clang! Clatter!! The sword fell onto the ground and the sound of the metal hitting the floor begins to echo for a moment or two before stopping.
He lets out groans of pain before falling to his knees, trying to find the strength to grab the sword with his other hand. "There’s no way he’s this experienced, even back in town he managed to kill so many of my men..." He thinks to himself.
If this is the leader of the ravens then they need to find someone way stronger to lead them in the future. I don’t think I’d want someone like this to run my army of assassins if they can’t handle one person.
"Before you kill him I want to ask him something. Who are you and why do you want me dead?" King Kuroda asks with a serious look in his eyes.
The man takes off his helmet with his one hand to reveal an older gentleman with a long grey beard and long grey hair that goes past his shoulders when his helmet is off.
I feel like it must be pretty hot inside that helmet with all that damn hair blocking everything. This guy is also a lot older than I expected him to be but it kind of makes sense.
"Darius. Killing you would mean the war could finally begin and Theos wouldn’t be able to participate in it." He answers with a few groans mixed in.
Darius huh, that’s a pretty interesting name for some leader of assassins. I was right about what he was trying to do from the beginning though.
Starting a war would only make things even more complicated than they already are, yet war is already on the horizon, why not wait? Shimada already said that something was going on and that it wasn’t far from happening anyway.
I guess it makes sense, he must’ve been hired by another kingdom that’s participating in the war. I really do hate when these kind of scenarios happen.
Being in the middle of it all is not really the best for anyone so I’ll wait to finish my business here. I’m going to execute Darius and then make my way back to Isabel since she’s my main priority.
I just couldn’t sit back and let a king die because then it would fall on me for letting it happen.
"I knew that rumors of war have been going about but everyone needs to focus on the peace at hand. There’s no need for war." King Kuroda speaks while sitting back down in his throne.
Artemis grips his blade as he looks towards Darius. "Finish it already..." Darius says weakly while looking down towards the floor
He lifts his sword and swiftly brings it down, slashing across the man’s throat without any struggle. Artemis wasn’t going to decapitate him or anything, it wasn’t really his style.
All the people I’ve killed is going to weigh on me after I have the chance to really think about it after this. I don’t look forward to that in the slightest.
