Chapter 68: The King’s Fate
She messes with the telescope as she thinks of the best way to answer. "Not in a long time but she told me I wouldn’t be the only one in this world who got a second chance." Isabel answers while beginning to look through the telescope.
As she looks through it she can see that the same men that were pursuing them before were rushing the main castle itself. It seems that they aren’t happy with the outcome of the battle and are going to take it out on the king.
"I see, I hear from the goddess who brought me here sometimes." Artemis says while walking over to the railing.
The view up here really is quite beautiful but something feels off about this whole thing. She seems to be focused on something in the distance or at least that’s what I can gather from how she’s looking through the telescope.
"Hey is something wrong?" Artemis asks with a bit of concern in his voice.
The men begin slaughtering the guards in the distance as they storm the keep. "The king might feel the wrath of the men that failed to kill me." Isabel answers with a serious tone in her voice.
He quickly rushes over to her and she moves out of the way for him to look through the telescope.
She wasn’t wrong, they are killing all the guards as they storm the keep. I can’t let the king here die just because the men failed to kill her.
He gave them permission to hunt within the kingdom to begin with so it’s not right that they would turn against him like this. His fate might be in my hands now if I can help change it.
"Can you promise to stay here please? I don’t want to struggle to find you again." Artemis asks.
I can’t expect her to actually stay here but this is the best I can do to try to save a king from certain death. I’m not sure he can handle a fight against these guys so I’d rather do my best to help.
Even if I’m exhausted from the fighting already, this is just the way it needs to be.
A small smile lingers on her face still as she wipes one of the chairs off. "I suppose I can promise that for the time being. Don’t take too long." Isabel responds with kindness in her voice.
I’ve learned a lot in such a short span of time so I don’t want it to be a waste, let’s go save a king.
The sun was starting to go down so his shadows wouldn’t be as effective soon, time to make some smart decisions. He begins to jump through various shadows throughout the streets while rushing towards the keep ahead.
Noticing the bloodshed throughout the streets, it was already quite the massacre that was happening. Guards were fighting to protect the king but these guys were definitely strong.
It’s unclear where they come from or what they represent but it’s enough to know that these guys aren’t on the right side either way.
I can finally see the entrance of the keep but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be an easy battle for me yet again. Nothing has been too easy for me since I’ve been reincarnated into this world.
But right now this is my chance to make a difference until I can wipe out that damn cult for good. I’ll save the king of Theos, it’ll probably give me quite the reputation too.
Not that I’m looking for a reputation right now but it could get me some coin for the journey and maybe some advantages in the continent.
He rushes past the men and eventually makes his way into the main hall. Taking in the scenery of all the different statues of the king, the paintings, and even some of the different armor stands he has across the hall.
He’s definitely quite, huh I can’t think of the word right now. It’ll come to me at some point but he thinks highly of himself, that’s for sure.
"It’s you, I’m surprised you’d show up. Where’s the girl?" A mysterious man asks while stepping out in front of Artemis.
A man wearing similar armor to the others except he seems to have streaks of red engraved within the armor. I’m assuming he must be one of the higher ranking soldiers from this group.
"Somewhere safe. Isn’t it dumb to kill a king?" Artemis responds with his own question.
The man just laughs before drawing a sword of his own. "The king was our next target anyway, it just worked out in our favor that he gave us the permission to hunt the other one here." He answers with a bit of cockiness to his voice.
Some sort of army of assassins, how lucky for me to encounter such an annoying army. I doubt they have an endless amount of them here but they definitely have quite a bit to sacrifice.
"You really want to keep wasting lives of your men?" Artemis asks with a serious tone in his voice.
I have no intention of trying to instill fear into these guys since they already look down on me anyway. Most people only see a kid, even after I’ve killed a bunch of his guys.
"They are easily replaceable. The Ravens of Sora will not fall so easily." He responds without an ounce of worry in his voice.
Men are just replaceable to him so I guess he doesn’t care about how many he loses as long as he completes his task. Killing the girl and the king are quite the hefty assassination to give to someone.
This means that someone is trying to start something on both sides of things, a war is already on the horizon so why not throw chaos into the mix too.
"Then I won’t waste anymore time talking." Artemis says before disappearing into the shadows.
