Chapter 67: The Assassin Approaches

So usually only the beings above us get to have such a thing granted to them, how strange is that. I never once considered that it would be a privilege only given to the gods themselves.

But since we don’t come from this world originally I guess we kind of ignore that concept of privilege. It makes me wonder where she really came from as well then since we both are reincarnated souls.

"What was the world like for you before this one?" Artemis questions before waiting in anticipation.

"Do you really want to hear about all of that, I guess I can tell you about what happened to me and how I ended up here." Isabel answers before she starts to explain.

(Tokyo, The Year 2019. Isabel’s View as she explains her story.)

Technology wasn’t as advanced yet during the time of which I was alive in my previous world but people were fighting. Jobs were getting cut left and right as the big corporations started to sell out their stocks.

My family happened to be in charge of one of the biggest tech companies out there, we were the ones trying to change the future for the better but it never works out that way.

We were working on special prototype for the military that would change the way our army worked forever. They would incorporate a series of levels like in video games that would help them get stronger without all the extra steps.

It was all early in the process but it was like some divine being gave the idea to my father to do this in the first place. Me and him stayed up for countless nights trying to perfect everything until it was finally ready for the first test.

All of this probably sounds dumb and I’m sure you don’t understand how this ties into anything with me but I’m getting there.

A girl with long blue hair sits at a table with an older man with grey hair, wearing a suit and tie as they both work on a computer. "I don’t know if the government should have this, it might cause the next war." The man says.

"It’s not ready yet anyway, I could test it." The girl responds.

He was hesitant about me testing out the system at first until he realized that it was the perfect idea. Having one of the creators try it out would be the best way to go about it so that we know exactly what’s wrong.

The girl grabs the device off of the table and equips it on her arm. A sharp drilling noise begins to go off before she looks down at her arm to see blood dripping from where it dug in.

"Is it supposed to do this?" She asks while trying not to panic.

The system embedded itself within my arm, something that wasn’t supposed to happen when we test it.

System initialization in progress...

There wasn’t much that could be done once it was embedded to the user, that’s exactly why we never wanted to give it over to them yet. It wasn’t supposed to do that and everything about it was wrong.

Shatter!!! Glass breaks from the window behind them as someone bursts through, a person wearing all black with a mask covering their whole face. Only red eyes could be seen glowing on the mask.

This was the night I died, the night that I didn’t even get to see what our system was capable of.

"So they were watching us the whole time. Damn bastards can’t just let us work in peace! We said it wasn’t ready yet!" The man shouts with anger in his voice.

A shuriken goes right into his throat before he can say anything else, within a few seconds he falls to the ground as he tries to hold onto the table.

"Dad!!!" The girl shouts while turning towards him.

Without any time being wasted a sword goes right through her stomach from behind.

Chaos System has been Activated.

She falls onto the floor as blood begins to form around her, the assassin doesn’t seem to say much but looks at her arm. They don’t have any idea how to take the device off of them so they go to cut her arm off.

Before the sword can reach her arm a giant purple and black ball of mist forms all around her. It suddenly begins to engulf the room, sucking everything in towards it.

I saw what the system name was before focusing on my father across from me, it wasn’t supposed to go like that at all. Something higher than us had given him the means to bring that kind of power into our world.

Everything had started to disappear for me so I accepted that this was my death and that it was time for me to move onto the next life. Until I heard a woman’s voice calling out to me.

"Do you really want to be done? Someone like you could thrive in a world like mine. Come and see for yourself Isabel." A woman’s voice echoes softly.

I found myself waking up within a home with loving parents just like my previous ones but that didn’t last very long. They were slaughtered and I tried to go find help to save them but I was too late.

Thus the stories of me began, the little girl who killed all the men who murdered her family.

The system never went away though, even in this world it seems to be connected to me in some way. I can’t see it right now but it’s there, waiting for me to do something to awaken it.

(Her explanation is over. Artemis’s View.)

A system like something out of a video game? How interesting is that to hear from someone like this. Someone who was also brought into a whole new world just like me, why were we chosen for this?

"Have you spoken to this woman since?" Artemis asks with curiosity in his voice still.
