Chapter 66: Fight or Die (2)
She doesn’t say anything to him and instead just follows his instructions, running over to him when the opening arrives. The spears she was throwing at them slowly begin to disappear as her mana gets low too.
"What now?" She asks with concern in her voice.
He quickly picks her up and scales up the building after sheathing his sword. The men seem to be at a lost with words as they watch the two of them scale the building with ease.
"Find a way to chase after them." A captain orders.
She’s not really that heavy... Not that I was expecting her to be in the first place but it’s odd considering the kind of gear she’s wearing. I could feel everything as I run across the rooftops, almost as if I can pick up on something.
All that can be heard is the sounds of the tiles as he continues to dash across the rooftops while making jumps with ease. "Do you have a place in mind?" Isabel asks.
He looks down as he continues to run and notices that they can’t really keep up with them while they are up top. "I have friends at the Golden Apple inn but there’s one place we could go until this dies down a little more." Artemis responds while observing Everything.
I could always take her back to the place that the girl took me to when we talked about Isabel. I’ve got an idea of where that spot is still so maybe we can lay low there for a bit while we wait for the night to approach.
It’ll be a bit harder for them to track us down while we use the shadows to our advantage anyway. I also might be able to try something with carrying her like this but I don’t know how well it’ll go just yet.
I’m still not entirely use to how my shadows work and have been experimenting with them each time. I know I could leap through to other shadows but with her on my back, I’m unsure.
She holds onto him tighter as he continues to run, but from up here the kingdom looks quite beautiful. It’s something that she can’t help but admire as he runs across the rooftops.
Not many people get an opportunity to view the kingdom from above the streets and have to look up constantly to see anything good. "It’s pretty up here." Isabel says softly.
I never think much about the views that often show up during these kinds of situations but I’m sure it is lovely to see. He glances around a few more times before catching notice of a tower in the distance, possible an abandoned one at that.
That could be a good place to lie low for a little while as well since I don’t trust the streets below us. Neither of us can endure a lot of fighting right now so this will have to do.
"Hang on a bit longer, I see somewhere we can hideout for a bit." Artemis warns her before picking up speed even more.
Within a few minutes he reaches the abandoned tower in the distance and takes her right up to the top of it. Inside the top of the tower was a bunch of dusty books shelves, chairs, and even a telescope that could look out towards the kingdom itself.
Something that he didn’t expect to see in a place like this, since it was the first time encountering something familiar.
She looks around at the old books before finally speaking. "So what’s your name mystery man?" She teases as she looks amongst the books.
"Artemis." He responds with a bit of calmness in his voice.
I thought for sure that I would’ve been a bit more nervous considering the fact that we are alone but it’s the complete opposite of that. I feel perfectly fine being around her like this but I don’t know how long we’ll be waiting up here.
Those guys seemed persistent so I doubt they’ll just give up on finding her— Well I don’t expect them to at least, especially if she’s the so called first stage of everything.
That was still never explained to me properly and I doubt that Isabel herself will know much about it. It’s probably a secret that was kept amongst the cult itself and between certain people outside of the cult.
She turns to face him as a small smile grows upon her face. "Your real name, not the one you were given here." Isabel says cheerfully.
How would she even know if I had a different name or not? I’ve never told anyone about my reincarnation into this world so it’s kind of odd that she might have an idea.
Will this tie into why she’s so dangerous or why she can’t be killed no matter what happens? These are all questions that I wish I had the answers to already.
"What do you mean by that?" Artemis asks while keeping his calm demeanor.
Maybe it’s a trick question to try to see if I’m even a real person if I am some sort of illusion or something. Not that I could be since I did carry her quite a bit of ways out of a dangerous encounter.
She crosses her arms and looks back towards the books. "You’re like me, someone who isn’t originally from this world. I’m able to tell, it’s both a curse and a blessing." Isabel responds, keeping her same cheerful tone.
She’s also reincarnated just like me? I didn’t think anyone else was brought into the world like that. It’s kind of shocking to think about, how many others are just like the two of us here?
"You were also reincarnated?" Artemis asks with a bit of curiosity in his voice.
She lets out a small laugh before answering. "Of course, but nobody here really believes in reincarnation since usually only the gods or goddesses get to have such a privilege." Isabel answers.
