Chapter 65: Fight or Die (1)

An army of footsteps can be heard rushing towards them in the distance as Artemis tries to think of what to say. Heavily armored men wearing a completely different insignia from what the cult of Nyxoria bares are getting closer and closer.

I don’t know what’s going on right now but I can hear people rushing towards us, probably the others that are hunting her down. She can’t die from anyone I’d presume so it’s best to keep my promise now.

"I’ll happily find a way to answer that after you come with me." Artemis says while staring past her.

I can see the men who are coming for her in the distance so there isn’t much time for me to try to give her a real answer. Isabel stands there silently as she thinks about if she wants to trust him or not.

This girl was the same girl who brought about the brutal awakening in Helfri after her family was slaughtered, why does she seem so different?

That was a thought that seems to pass through artemis’s mind quite a bit as he waits for her to answer.

But before she can speak a sword comes swinging down towards her from behind— Artemis doesn’t hesitate to run past her and block the sword with his own as the metallic clanging echoes off the walls of the buildings.

"Believe me now?" He asks while holding back one of the attackers.

Seeing is believe they say, but I’m not sure she’s as brutal as the stories say or else she would’ve did something by now right? I’d say she seems like the exact opposite of everything I’ve heard thus far.

Suddenly he could feel a strange aura coming from behind him before a sudden burst of spears start piercing through the men in front of him.

Sending bodies onto the ground with ease as the guy he was originally blocking against also falls onto the floor. Each one pierced directly through the heart with insane precision.

I stand corrected, should’ve expected that she’d show off her strength the moment I start thinking the complete opposite of her. It seems to be something that happens quite often in this world.

I’ve thought about the strength of Amelia, Cynthia, Shimada, and even Liora before and then they showed how strong they really are. I think from now on I’ll just have to take everything as I see it instead.

Isabel walks up to him and looks at all the bodies on the ground. "Do you think I need the help?" She asks with a bit of smirk across her face.

More men begin rushing towards them but this time they have shields in their hands— It seems the men have prepared for the attack a lot better than the previous ones.

"The king has graced us with this, we won’t be interrupted!" One of the men shout as he charges forward.

So the king is well aware of what’s happening in his own streets right now, how interesting this whole situation has become. It explains why the guards haven’t tried to interfere with everything going on.

None of the men charging us are wearing the symbol of the kingdom either so at least we aren’t committing some outrageous crimes against the kingdom.

"I think that we’ve reached a fight or Die situation." Artemis responds while gripping his sword.

She’s definitely a lot stronger than I originally thought but that doesn’t mean she can handle an endless wave of soldiers. We don’t know how many guys they have or where they are coming from.

Also from what I remember in the books I read in the past from mom, mages also need to recharge after awhile too. They have a limited amount of energy that they can use before that happens.

Mana, just like in some sort of game I use to play. I’m surprised I even remember that since everything has just been disappearing from my mind lately.

"For now we’ll fight by each other’s side but I still need good reasons to trust you." Isabel says as more spears form in front of her.

The thought of my enemy having to trust me is definitely different but she’s right, we have to fight side by side for now anyway. I won’t be dying from these guys, especially not with the target already in sight.

They begin to fight together as a team while using her spears to pierce through the enemies while he slashes through them with his sword. It was obvious that this couldn’t go on forever since she’d eventually need to rest.

The enemies also seemed to be relentless with how many of them there were, each one charging in after another drops. "We might have to make a run for it somehow." Artemis says while he fights.

Fighting to stay alive isn’t the hard part of this whole battle, it’s the amount of them that keep coming. They’ve got us outnumbered and there’s really no way for us to catch up to them.

We don’t have an army just on standby waiting for us to give the order so it’s up to us to handle this. Surely I would’ve thought that this would catch the attention of my party but I guess everyone was exhausted.

That’s the other problem here too, I’m quite exhausted myself and I don’t think I can hold up very long either.

"Where would we go huh?" Isabel asks as spears continue to go flying through the air, piercing the enemy.

He begins to look around while fighting against the soldiers before him. I’ll have to grab her and carry her for this to work but I think scaling up to the rooftops could be sufficient for the time being.

Thump. Thump. He can feel his heartbeat racing as he tries to put this all together in a smart manner. "In a few moments here I need you to rush over to me, I have a plan. Trust me." Artemis says with a serious tone to his voice.
