Rebirth to take revenge -
Chapter 94: Five years later
Chapter 94: Five years later
Claire stared at Nelson, her emotions complicated. She had to admit that she was touched by his offer. Returning home now would certainly cause a lot of commotion. Jack’s whereabouts were unknown, and Cole was lurking in the shadows, posing a constant threat to Alex.
Her presence would always be Alex’s weakness. After thinking for a moment, Claire slowly closed her eyes. When she opened them again, her gaze was filled with determination. She looked at Nelson, who was waiting expectantly, and smiled slightly.
"Nelson, is there a way you can send me somewhere no one can find me?" Claire asked. "I want to leave City A."
Five years later, on a remote island, Claire woke up in a large princess bed, got up, and walked to the window. Opening the curtains, the sunlight shone into the room, causing her to squint subconsciously. After a short period of adjustment, she stretched while admiring the beautiful sea view outside.
Five years ago, Nelson took her away from the city and brought her to this unknown island. The servants took care of her meticulously every day, filling her life with sunshine and happiness. Eventually, she even forgot the heartache of leaving Alex.
"Mom, why did you get up so early?" A small, dissatisfied voice came from behind her.
Claire turned around and smiled gently at the boy on the bed. After carrying him for nine months, she gave birth to a child with Alex. Leander, now more than three years old, was already a beautiful boy.
Thanks to their excellent genes, although his facial features bore a slight resemblance to Claire’s, he was almost a replica of Alex. What drew the most attention were his big, bright eyes, a trait inherited from his father.
Leander quickly got out of bed, ran up to Claire barefoot, and hugged her leg tightly. "Mom, where are you going? Leander wants to come with you."
Claire smiled, picked him up, and said, "Mom’s not going anywhere. I’ll stay with you the whole time."
"But you can’t go barefoot! Put your shoes on, okay?"
"Okay, I’ll listen to Mom," Leander nodded obediently and began searching for his shoes. When he spotted them, he slipped down from Claire’s arms.
Just then, there was a knock at the door, followed by Nelson’s voice. "Claire, are you awake?"
"Uncle Nelson!" Leander shouted in surprise. Without thinking of his shoes, he quickly ran to open the door.
Nelson entered the room and immediately noticed the barefoot Leander. He smiled helplessly, picked him up, and put the shoes on for him.
"Thank you, Uncle Nelson," Leander said sweetly.
"You’re such a cute kid," Nelson chuckled, rubbing his hair. "Now, let’s have breakfast first. Uncle Nelson has something to discuss with your mom."
"Okay!" Leander replied before running off.
Claire turned to Nelson. "Why do you have time to visit me? Shouldn’t you be busy?"
Nelson, having recently inherited the throne, was now a king. Yet, due to his young age, he was still adjusting to his new responsibilities. His visit today was unexpected.
"Claire..." He hesitated.
Claire raised an eyebrow. "What’s the matter? If you have something to say, just say it."
Nelson was silent for a moment before speaking. "I want to take you back to the city."
Claire’s face darkened. She frowned and said coldly, "I won’t go back. You should give up."
She turned her back to Nelson, clearly not wanting to discuss the matter further. But Nelson wasn’t about to give up. He stepped forward, gently grasped her shoulders, and turned her to face him.
Their eyes met, and Nelson’s expression grew complicated. "Claire, I know you haven’t been able to let go of him all these years."
He paused, gathering his thoughts. "I wanted to keep you here, for my own sake. But I don’t want you to be unhappy."
Claire’s heart skipped a beat. She gazed at him, her curiosity piqued. "What’s going on?"
Nelson sighed, his voice heavy with emotion. "five years ago, we left without saying goodbye. Alex spent all of his family’s fortune trying to find you. Eventually, he sought out Cole."
Claire froze, her mind spinning. "No... this can’t be true," she muttered, shaking her head in denial. The Alex she knew—how could he...
Nelson sighed again. "If I hadn’t intercepted Cole in time, Alex would have died.
He hesitated but then pressed on. "If I told you that he almost gave up as the Commander of the capital city you won’t believe it, for this reason he has been suspended for some time now by the higher ups and nearly lost his life to find you, would you still refuse to go back?"
Claire’s face grew pale as she trembled. "What do you mean?"
"He lost his memory," Nelson said softly, pain filling his eyes.
Claire took a deep breath. "He lost his memory? Then he can forget about me and start a new life. Wouldn’t that be better?"
"Better?" Nelson locked eyes with her. "If
that’s what you truly want, I’ll respect your decision. But Claire, Cole has resurfaced, and he’s targeting the same position Alex has been suspended from. This time, Alex might not survive."
Nelson’s words struck Claire hard. She wavered, struggling to maintain her balance.
"Alex... he can’t die. He can’t..."
Nelson’s gaze softened. "Since you’re so worried, why don’t you return to the city with me?"
Claire closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. When she opened them, her expression was resolute. "Get out," she ordered.
Nelson stared at her in disbelief. "Claire, you—"
"I need to pack!" she snapped. "And don’t tell Leander anything about Alex!"
A few hours later, they arrived at the airport in the city. Leander stood in the lobby, immediately attracting attention from passersby.
"Oh my God, is that a child star? He’s so handsome."
"That boy is so beautiful—his parents must be stunning."
Hearing the comments around him, Leander merely smiled gracefully, his every move exuding charm.
"Leander?" Claire searched around with a worried tone.
"Mom, I’m here!" Leander ran out of the crowd, waving his little hand.
Claire rushed forward and hugged him, her beautiful eyes showing a hint of concern. "It’s crowded here. Don’t run around. A cute little boy like you—if bad people kidnapped you, they’d eat you up!"
Leander pouted and said bluntly, "Mom, don’t scare me. Besides, it’s not me who got lost, it’s you."
At his words, Claire looked embarrassed for a moment, coughed lightly, and said,
"Alright, we’ve been on the plane for so long. Let’s go find something to eat first."
"Then I want to eat Pizza!" Leander raised his little hand seriously.
Behind her, Emma’s gaze fell on Claire and Leander’s backs, lost in thought.
Upon hearing the butler’s question, she snapped out of it. "Did you see that little boy just now? He looks so much like Alex when he was younger."
"I didn’t get a good look at her face. Was it Claire?" Emma asked, sounding uncertain.
"But she’s dead, isn’t she?" Emma rubbed her eyes, trying to dispel her disbelief.
The butler sighed lightly, "Madam, let the past be the past. You must be tired after such a long flight. Let’s go; young master should be here soon."
Emma could only nod her head in disappointment.
At a fast-food restaurant near the airport, Leander looked at the vegetables and white rice in front of him, pouting in dissatisfaction. "Mom, you promised me Pizza, but you lied!"
Claire glanced at him lightly, lowered her head, and ate her food. "I didn’t promise you anything. If you want to eat, go buy it yourself."
She pulled out a bill from her wallet, placing it on the table. Leander took the money, put it in his bag, and said, "I’ll be back soon, Mom."
Claire watched him cross the road safely. Just then, her phone rang. Seeing that it was Nelson, she answered.
Meanwhile, Leander bumped into a man, nearly falling. His small foot accidentally stepped on the man’s shoe. "I’m sorry!" Leander blushed, quickly apologizing. The man glanced at him and said lightly, "It’s okay.
Hearing this, Leander ran to the Pizza shop.
"Master, are you okay? Did you get hurt?" A young man hurriedly asked Alex, the man Leander had bumped into.
Alex shook his head, a strange feeling creeping into his heart. He watched Leander’s back, unable to shake off the sense that he had seen the boy somewhere before. He took a few steps forward, wanting to see more.
However, the young man beside him interrupted, "Master, Madam has already landed. We should go pick her up."
Alex snapped back to reality, nodding. "Okay, let’s go."
After a brief chat with Nelson, Claire hung up the phone. Leander soon returned with his buns in hand. "Mom, I’m back! Here’s the change," he said, pouring out the money from his bag.
Claire smiled faintly as she ruffled Leander’s hair. "Take your time eating. No one’s going to take it from you."
"Mom, why didn’t Uncle Nelson come with us?" Leander asked, tilting his head.
"Uncle Nelson is very busy. He has his own responsibilities," Claire replied softly.
"But this is our hometown. You know it better than Uncle Nelson," Leander reasoned.
"Mom will take good care of you. Don’t worry."
"I’ll take good care of you too, Mom!" Leander smiled.
At that moment, familiar figures passed by outside the window. Emma followed behind
Alex, rubbing her forehead. "I just saw a little boy who looks exactly like you did as a child."
Alex suddenly stopped and turned to Emma. "A little boy? When?"
Emma shook her head. "I’m not sure if I was hallucinating."
