Rebirth to take revenge -
Chapter 95: Still Alive
Chapter 95: Still Alive
In recent years, Emma had suffered from heart and brain conditions. She had sought medical treatment abroad, but her mental state remained fragile.
Alex looked at the old butler beside Emma, who said, "Young master, Madam may be tired from the journey."
Suppressing the excitement in his heart, Alex nodded. "Let me take you back, Mom."
Emma sighed softly. "Ah, if only it were true. If it were true, maybe Claire..."
"Madam!" the old butler interrupted her.
Realizing she had said too much, Emma laughed lightly. "I’m getting old."
After Alex lost his memory, the name Claire became a taboo in the Miller family. Even Emma rarely mentioned her.
After they left the airport, Claire took Leander’s hand and walked out of the restaurant. They hailed a taxi and headed toward Nelson’s villa in the suburbs. On the way, she read the news. Miller Group had taken over the Western Medical Clinic, with Alex personally overseeing it. Sheila had replaced the previous director.
The Western Medical Clinic was now famous in City A, thanks to Alex bringing in renowned doctors from the Miller Group. Claire felt conflicted. The clinic had once belonged to her mother, but now, it had changed beyond recognition.
As the taxi drove on, Claire spotted a job advertisement for the Western Medical Clinic on her phone. Her eyes narrowed as she quickly instructed the driver, "Change the destination. Take me to the Western Medical Clinic."
A moment later, they arrived at the western suburban clinic. Claire brought Leander into the waiting area of the hall, and as she put him on the chair, she said, "Leander, you wait here for Mommy. Mommy is going for an interview and will be out soon."
"Be good, don’t run around. If someone talks to you and asks you to go with them, you tell the uncle in black clothes over there." Claire pointed to the black-clad bodyguard in the corner. He was Alex’s subordinate, and she trusted him.
Leander obediently nodded and said, "Okay, Mommy, good luck with your interview!"
Hearing her son’s sensible words, Claire was extremely pleased. She gave some more instructions before turning around and entering the interview room.
Behind the desk, Director Sheila wore glasses and looked down at the thick stack of resumes in her hand. She had been interviewing all morning, and all the applicants were empty shells with high expectations and low skills.
She caught a glimpse of the red high heels Claire was wearing and lost her patience. She said impatiently, "You should wear formal attire for an interview. Don’t you know this common sense?"
Hearing her impatient tone, Claire was not angry and said calmly, "Sorry, I came in a hurry and didn’t have time to change. I didn’t prepare a resume either."
Director Sheila frowned, raised her head impatiently, and looked over. Her eyes suddenly widened. "It’s... it’s you. Claire?"
Sheila couldn’t believe it. She quickly got up, closed the office door, and walked over. "Claire, you’re not dead?"
After the elder Mr. Miller’s death, Claire also had an accident, and even Alex almost lost his life. For this, Director Sheila had been feeling guilty. But instead of punishing her, Alex promoted her to be the head of the Western Medical Clinic. Sheila had been wanting to repay this kindness.
Seeing Claire, she was excited and grabbed her hand, saying, "Mr. Miller will be very happy to see you. Come with me."
However, Claire stood still, looked at Director Sheila’s expression, and felt puzzled. It seemed that she didn’t know about Alex’s amnesia. Claire silently withdrew her hand and said, "Director Sheila, I’m here to apply for a job. I won’t go to Mr. Miller."
Director Sheila was taken aback and didn’t expect Claire to refuse so thoroughly. She explained eagerly, "Claire, I can give you the position of head of the clinic anytime. I believe Mr. Miller will agree. Come with me."
Claire shook her head and insisted, "I can’t. I just need an inconspicuous position to stay in the Western Medical Clinic."
Upon hearing this, Director Sheila suddenly understood. After struggling for a moment, she said, "Okay, I’ll cooperate with you."
Claire breathed a sigh of relief when she heard her agreement and said, "Director Sheila, thank you for understanding. I hope you won’t mention my return to Mr. Miller."
Director Sheila hesitated for a moment, looking at Claire’s serious expression, and finally nodded in agreement.
Meanwhile, Leander, who was swinging his feet boredly, noticed something. Beside him, Emma, surrounded by a group of black-clad bodyguards, walked into the clinic lobby. With a casual glance, she suddenly stopped in her tracks, her face changing drastically.
She quickly walked up to Leander and stared at him with wide eyes, saying, "You... you..."
Leander was startled by her and instinctively stood up to offer his seat, saying, "Auntie, do you want to sit here?"
Emma regained her composure and quickly put on a friendly smile, asking, "What’s your name, little one?"
Leander felt confused and politely smiled, saying, "I don’t have a father."
Emma was shocked to her core. Now she was sure that the little boy she met at the airport earlier in the day was real! Looking at his features, he was almost identical to Alex!
Suddenly, Emma thought of something and quickly crouched down, pressing Leander’s shoulder, and asked excitedly, "Then who is your mother? What’s your name?"
Leander was frightened by her sudden movement and broke free from her grip, running toward the bodyguard and shouting, "Uncle, uncle! There’s a bad person here!"
He hugged the leg of the black-clad bodyguard, looking pitiful and helpless. The bodyguard’s expression froze for a moment, and as he lowered his head, his eyes flashed with a fierce glint. This little boy?!
The bodyguard followed Leander’s finger and saw Emma, and suddenly he understood. Emma looked at the bodyguard and ordered, "Bring him over to me."
The bodyguard squatted down, picked up Leander, and walked toward Emma. Leander blinked and pouted, feeling wronged, "Uncle, why are you working with bad people? If I had known this, I wouldn’t have come to find you! My mom is terrible at judging people..."
Just then, a figure rushed over and stood in front of the bodyguard, coldly saying, "Give him back to me!"
Hearing the familiar voice, Leander looked up in surprise and saw Claire. He quickly reached out his arms and struggled to get into her embrace, saying, "Mom, save me!"
Claire took Leander from the bodyguard’s arms and looked at him warily, saying, "This is my son!"
The bodyguard in black was taken aback when he saw Claire. Immediately, he looked at Emma behind Claire with some helplessness, and said, "Ma’am, this..."
Claire realized something, she turned her head slowly and looked at Emma behind her with a shocked expression. "I haven’t seen you for a long time...."
For a while, Claire was in a complicated mood.
Emma recovered from the shock. After pondering for a moment, she looked at the bodyguard beside her and said, "You go down first, let me chat with her alone. By the way, don’t tell Alex about this yet!"
The bodyguards surrounding Emma were ordered to disperse immediately. For a while, the clinic hall became much quieter.
Emma stepped forward, her eyes still uncontrollably glancing at Leander. Her complexion was complicated, the corners of her mouth trembling, and she said, "This child is Alex’s."
Claire nodded, looked around, and said softly, "Let’s chat in another place."
A moment later, at a café near the Medical Center. In the VIP box, Claire took Leander and sat opposite Emma.
"Claire, where have you been all these years?" Emma asked. "I have sent someone to look for you privately for a long time, but your whereabouts were never found. I thought you had..." Emma paused, her eyes red, and she couldn’t help crying.
Claire sighed softly and told Emma everything that had happened back then. Hearing this, Emma felt sorrowful and said, "It turns out that Nelson saved you. But why don’t you want to go back home again?"
Claire glanced at Leander beside her and said, "I was pregnant with Leander at the time, and I didn’t want to be in danger. Besides, since I am his weakness, it’s better for everyone if I disappear."
Emma shook her head and sighed uncontrollably. Suddenly, she thought of something and asked, "Then why did you come back this time?"
Claire thought for a while, and finally decided to tell her the truth...
"Cole has made some moves and I’m afraid that Leander will be in danger."
"What?!" Emma stood up abruptly, her face filled with anxiety. "Where is he, and what is he going to do?"
"Is there still Jack? What do they want?"
"Mom, calm down. Don’t scare the kid" Claire said softly.
Emma lowered her head and looked at Leander. Seeing that he was taken aback by her sudden reaction and that his face had gone pale, she immediately regained her composure. She sat down and asked, "Claire, you just said that Cole is about to make his move again. So, is he still alive?"
