Rebirth to take revenge -
Chapter 93: Lose Again
Chapter 93: Lose Again
At the entrance of the village, it was late, and they were already drowsy.
Elias brought Paisley and Claire closer, pushed one of them impatiently, and said, "Xander, wake up and open the door!"
The villager named Xander woke up suddenly and shouted, "Who?"
Elias was startled, quickly covered his mouth and nose, and said, "Quiet!"
"It’s the middle of the night. Why are you making noise?"
Seeing that it was Elias, Xander quickly put on a courteous expression and asked, "So it’s Elias. Where are you going in the middle of the night?"
He looked behind Elias and saw two women. He couldn’t help but become vigilant.
Elias slapped Xander on the head and said, "What are you looking at? That’s my wife!"
"Look again, and I’ll gouge your eyes out!"
"Oh! So it’s your wife!" Xander quickly turned his eyes away and said, "Elias, are you taking your wife down the mountain? Who’s the other one?"
Paisley glanced over and said, "It was too late for me to come alone, so I asked a friend to accompany me."
Hearing this, Xander was overjoyed, his posture straightening up. He asked, "Elias, are you married?"
The implication of Xander’s words was obvious, and Elias understood immediately. But time was tight, and he didn’t want to waste any more of it, so he said, "No, if you’re interested, make yourself useful."
Xander, energized by this, quickly opened the door and said courteously, "It’s dark, miss. Be careful where you step and walk slowly."
"If you need help, I can carry you on my back."
Claire, feeling weak, almost agreed. But the journey was already dangerous, and she didn’t want to involve anyone else.
With that in mind, Claire smiled lightly and said, "Thank you, but it’s too late. No need to trouble yourself."
Xander was thrilled by her soft tone. He nodded, bowed quickly, and replied, "No trouble at all." Then he added, "Miss, young lady, please follow me!"
With that, he led the way for the three of them. Soon, they walked out of the village.
Elias pointed to a path of stone steps ahead and said, "Go down this road. It’s the safest and shortest way."
Paisley nodded, took Claire’s arm, then looked at Elias and said, "Okay, Elias, you can leave us here. We’ll go the rest of the way ourselves."
Elias hesitated, unsure of what to say, but then heard Paisley urging, "Hurry up. We need to go before dawn."
Seeing this, Elias didn’t argue. He nodded and said, "Alright, go ahead. I’ll head back now."
With that, Paisley and Claire started their descent down the mountain.
At the same time, in Nelson’s villa, the old butler hurried to Nelson’s room, knocked on the door, and said, "Master, there’s news!"
The door opened quickly. Nelson looked at the butler excitedly and asked, "Where are they?"
"I’ve found them. According to the information, they’re heading down a small path," the old butler replied, handing Nelson a laptop.
Nelson looked at the footage on the computer, thrilled. He rushed out, put on his coat, opened the door, and got into his car.
The destination was the village. Looking at the screen displayed on the computer, Nelson accurately tracked Claire’s route down the mountain.
He parked the car on the side of the road and waited for her. At this time, Claire and Paisley were trotting all the way down the mountain path. Claire was very nervous, afraid that Cole would find her leaving and catch up again. Paisley was also worried about what might happen. After all, the person beside her was not just Claire but also two million dollars!
Paisley turned her head to the side, looking expectantly, and said, "Claire, the exit is just ahead. You won’t go back on what you promised me, will you?"
Claire, supporting her body that was about to fall, said weakly, "No, my card is in the Millers’ house. You can find the housekeeper and ask him to bring it to you. The password is 12dh1d."
After finishing speaking, Claire felt her vision go dark and passed out.
"Claire! Wake up!" Paisley turned pale with shock and quickly shook Claire’s body. But Claire still didn’t move, only weak breathing showed that she was still alive.
Seeing that the exit was just ahead, Paisley gathered her courage, dragged Claire’s body, and walked toward the exit step by step.
Inside the car, Nelson watched Claire’s speed suddenly slow down, and his heart tightened. He quickly opened the car door and ran toward her. Fortunately, within a few steps, he saw Paisley dragging Claire.
Nelson’s eyes narrowed, and he hurriedly said, "Be careful, she’s pregnant!"
Hearing this, Paisley immediately stopped, looking warily at the man who had appeared in front of her.
Nelson, blond and blue-eyed, had an outstanding appearance. Just one look at him made Paisley flustered.
"Who are you? Are you here to save her?" Paisley blushed and asked while arranging her wind-tousled hair.
Nelson nodded, pulled Claire over, and held her in his arms. His cautious expression left Paisley puzzled.
"No, you’re not her man. So who are you?" Paisley questioned.
Nelson froze. Then, standing up with Claire in his arms, he said, "It’s cold here. Let’s talk about it in my car."
Paisley hesitated for a moment, then nodded and said, "Okay, but don’t try any tricks."
After finishing speaking, she followed Nelson and got into the car. Nelson also got in, started the car, and drove away slowly.
"What’s your name, and why are you here?" Paisley asked Nelson while fastening her seatbelt.
Nelson looked ahead and replied lightly, "You answer my question first."
"None of your business," Paisley said with a displeased look, the corners of her mouth twitching.
"You can’t just take her away like this. You need to take us back home! She promised me; save her and give me two million!"
Hearing this, Nelson gripped the steering wheel tightly. He reached into his pocket, took out a bank card, and said, "There are three million on it, and the extra one million is for your taxi fare."
After saying this, Nelson parked the car on the side of the road and said calmly, "Get out."
"What?" Paisley stared at Nelson in disbelief. She didn’t expect this man to be so rich! Three million, just like that!
"Get out! I don’t want to repeat myself!"
After saying this, Nelson snorted coldly, then turned to look at Claire. She had fallen into a coma, unconscious. Seeing this, Nelson reached out and patted Claire’s pale cheek.
"Hang on. I’ll take you home."
When Claire woke up again, she found herself lying on a large, comfortable bed. Her heart raced, and she sat up abruptly. After looking around, she recalled the place. The bedroom she was in belonged to Nelson’s villa in the western suburbs. But why was she here?
Claire pressed her dizzy and aching head, remembering that she passed out when she was about to reach the exit. Could it be that Nelson had brought her here?
After a moment, the bedroom door opened. The old butler, dressed in a suit and leather shoes, stood at the door, surprised to see Claire awake.
"Miss Smith, you’re awake," he said.
He then turned around and shouted toward the living room, "Master, Miss Smith is awake!"
As his voice faded, the sound of footsteps echoed through the hallway. Nelson rushed into the bedroom, threw himself beside Claire’s bed, looked at her with worried eyes, and asked, "Claire, how do you feel? Is there anything uncomfortable?"
Claire looked up at Nelson, then shook her head slightly. "Thank you for saving me," she replied softly, lowering her head.
Hearing her words, Nelson breathed a sigh of relief. After a moment, Claire raised her eyes and asked, "There was another girl who went down the mountain with me. Where is she?"
Nelson blinked, avoiding her gaze, and said, "By now, she should be home."
"Are you talking about the two million?" he added. "I’ve already given her the money. You don’t have to worry. Just rest for now."
Claire raised her eyes, staring at Nelson with sadness and doubt. "Nelson... is it still worth believing?" she asked quietly.
Nelson’s body stiffened at her words. A wry smile appeared on his face as he responded, "Claire, don’t do this. I told him where you were, but it was for your sake."
"I didn’t want there to be any regrets between you and him," he continued. "But who could’ve guessed... Alex is so unreliable!"
Nelson clenched his fists in frustration. "I never expected that as soon as I returned you to him, he’d lose you again! Damn it! No matter what, I’m not sending you back to him this time!" His tone was filled with frustration, and there was a look of remorse in his eyes.
However, when his gaze fell upon Claire, his expression softened. "Claire, you can stay here, okay?" Nelson asked, his voice gentle. "I can take better care of you than that bastard Alex ever could!"
