Rebirth to take revenge
Chapter 92: Escape

Chapter 92: Escape

Paisley took the leather case with suspicion and opened it, only to find it filled with money—quite a lot of it. She was secretly delighted but pretended to decline. "How can I accept this? It’s too much," she said modestly.

"We’re husband and wife—no need for formalities," Elias replied with a hearty laugh, looking generous. "Besides, now that we’re getting married, this money belongs to both of us."

Seeing this, Paisley stopped being coy and nodded. "Okay, thank you, Elias."

After exchanging a few more pleasantries, she left with the suitcase. As soon as she stepped out, a face, completely unrecognizable, appeared before her eyes.

"Ah! A ghost!" Paisley screamed, her eyes rolling back as she nearly fainted.

"What? What’s wrong, wife?" Elias rushed to the door, and upon seeing the visitor, his expression immediately became respectful. "This isn’t a ghost, it’s Lord Cole. Wife, please greet him!"

Paisley, shaken by Elias’ reaction, regained some composure. When she heard the name Cole, she instantly became alert. Wasn’t this the person Claire had warned her to be wary of?

She quickly looked up but dared not make direct eye contact. Forcing a smile, she said, "Hello, Lord Cole."

At this point, Cole’s face was as dark as the bottom of a pot. He snorted coldly, ignoring Paisley and turning his gaze to Elias. "Have there been any movements these past few days?"

Elias’ expression became serious, and he quickly replied, "No, there haven’t been any, sir."

"Sir, our village is well hidden, and we’ve set traps at the entrance. Ordinary people cannot find it, so you can rest assured," Elias said confidently.

Cole nodded and then looked at Paisley. "Who is she? She’s not from the mountains."

Paisley felt a chill run down her spine at his intense gaze.

Elias quickly moved to protect her, saying, "Sir, please don’t misunderstand. This is my wife, who will soon be married into our family. We came today to collect the bride price."

"Oh?" Cole raised an eyebrow and looked at Elias. "Show me."

Elias immediately signaled to Paisley, who handed over the leather case in her hands. He then opened the box in front of Paisley’s surprised eyes and took out a stack of banknotes, handing them over and saying, "Sir, is this amount enough?"

Cole glanced at it and said, "Not bad, it’s enough."

He pocketed the money and turned to leave.

Paisley was immediately displeased and wanted to stop him, but Elias quickly covered her mouth.

"Shh, don’t make a sound. Do you want to die?" Elias whispered, fear evident in his eyes.

Paisley’s anger grew, but she couldn’t make a sound with her mouth covered. It wasn’t until Cole’s figure disappeared that Elias finally let go of his hand, releasing her.

"Phew! Elias, were you trying to suffocate me?" Paisley gasped angrily.

"Don’t be mad. I was just in a hurry. Are you okay, my dear?" Elias asked with a smile, trying to pacify her.

Seeing him act like this only made Paisley angrier. "What do you mean? Wasn’t that my dowry? You just gave it to him like that? I don’t have much left. How am I supposed to explain this to my parents?" she snapped.

Elias’ eyes darted nervously as he stuttered, "Isn’t this money a lot? Other people in our village don’t need dowries when they get married. I gave you this much, and that’s already pretty good."

"Besides," Elias added, "you said earlier that the money was too much. Now that some of it went to Cole, isn’t it just right?"

Paisley was so angry that she sneered sarcastically. "Big shot? So, you’re just a lackey after all!"

"I can tell you’re afraid of that Cole!"

"If you’re afraid of him, then you won’t be able to help me with my problem."

When Elias heard this, he became more cautious and said, "What do you mean? The person you want to release, is it one of Cole’s people?"

Paisley crossed her arms and raised her chin, saying, "I don’t know if it’s his person or not. I just heard her mention this person."

"But from the way you’re acting, I can tell that you’re just a small player and can’t handle this."

Elias’s face turned ugly, but he didn’t dare to say anything. Seeing this, Paisley snorted and stuffed the leather box back into Elias’s arms, saying,

"You can take the money back. I don’t want to marry someone like you," said Paisley as she turned around and walked away, looking determined.

Elias became anxious and quickly caught up to her, grabbing her wrist and saying, "Wife, don’t be hasty. I can make this happen."

"Cole is a powerful figure. I can’t openly oppose him," replied Paisley.

"How about this? Take me to your friend’s place. We’ll do it at night when Cole is away and get it done quickly," suggested Elias.

Paisley hesitated for a moment and looked at Elias skeptically. "Do you really have a plan?" she asked.

Elias nodded and handed the suitcase back to Paisley. "Don’t worry, wife. I have a plan," he said.

Paisley smiled slightly and tightened her grip on the suitcase. "Alright, let’s go," she said.

Elias was overjoyed at her agreement and urged her, "Let’s go now, late at night."

Claire fell into a deep sleep after Paisley left.

I don’t know how long she slept, but she heard a knocking sound in her sleep. She tried hard to open her eyes, but her body was still unable to move. After a lot of struggle, she could only make a weak whining sound in the end. When Paisley outside the window heard the movement, her heart sank, and she quickly opened the window to look in.

Seeing Claire’s painful expression, as if she couldn’t wake up, she immediately pushed Elias beside her, saying:

"Let’s go in directly, she looks like a ghost pressing the bed like this!"

After hearing this, Elias hesitated for a moment and looked around vigilantly.

After a while, he swallowed and said, "Okay, let’s go in. Be careful with your movements, and don’t let anyone see you."

Paisley was unhappy and muttered, "Why are you acting like a thief..."

Elias heard it in his ears, the corners of his mouth pursed stubbornly, and his hands were already trembling nervously.

The two went in through the window one after another. Paisley walked to Claire’s bed, pushed her, and said:

"Claire, wake up, don’t sleep, you can’t go!"

Claire, who was lying on the bed, could clearly hear Paisley’s call. But under the effect of the medicine, she couldn’t open her eyes no matter what. She struggled to wake up, breaking out in a cold sweat.

Seeing that Claire did not respond for a long time, Elias, who was at the side, grew impatient and urged,

"Honey, she’s fast asleep. Let’s go, we’ll send her down another day!"

Hearing this, Paisley was not in a hurry. She nodded and said in a low voice,

"Okay, it’s so late after all. Let’s go."

After that, Paisley turned around and was about to leave with Elias.

Hearing this, Claire became immediately anxious. She knew that now was the best chance to leave. She steadied her heart and held her breath forcefully. It wasn’t until her face turned red that she suddenly opened her eyes.

"Hoo, ho." Panting heavily, she stretched out her hand to hold Paisley’s wrist tightly, looked at Paisley expectantly, and said,

"I... I have woken up..." Her voice was weak and hoarse.

Hearing this, Paisley was startled, looked back at her face, and shouted in surprise,

"You’re awake? That’s really great!"

After finishing speaking, she quickly helped Claire to sit up. She felt limp all over, as if all her strength had been drained. After she sat down against Paisley, she asked,

"Are you going down the mountain tonight?"

Looking at Claire’s weak appearance, Elias frowned and said,

"Yes, but seeing you like this, do you still have the strength to walk? If it doesn’t work, we can wait another day."

"I can!" Claire stood up from the bed, put on her shoes, and said,

"Just tonight. Let’s go."

Hearing what she said, Paisley naturally had no objections. She tightened the leather bag in her arms and hurriedly urged,

"Elias, let’s go. It’s so late, and I’m so sleepy. Let’s get down the mountain quickly. I need to go home and sleep."

Elias naturally didn’t want to waste too much time. He walked out the door first, looked around vigilantly, and said,

"Quick, follow me. Let’s go!"

The group of three quickly reached the entrance of the village. Two villagers on duty were guarding the entrance. Because it was late at night, they were already drowsy.

Elias brought Paisley and Claire closer, pushed one of them impatiently, and said,

"Hey you, wake up and open the door!"

The villager bodyguard woke up suddenly and shouted,

"Who?"

Elias was startled, quickly covered his mouth, and said,

"Quiet down!"

"It’s the middle of the night, why are you shouting?"

Seeing that it was Elias, the bodyguard quickly put on a courteous expression.
