Rebirth to take revenge -
Chapter 166 - 1 million
Chapter 166: 1 million
Upon hearing Leander’s refusal, Claire frowned slightly, looking displeased.
"Leander, have you been too stubborn lately?"
"If you’re not obedient, Mommy will get angry!"
Claire looked at Leander with some annoyance.
Leander was taken aback and quickly changed his mind.
"Okay, I’ll go see Grandma with you guys."
Upon hearing this, Claire forced a smile.
Alex and Claire got into the car together, and Leander followed suit.
Alex drove towards the Greg family estate.
Along the way, Alex’s face was tense, his expression unreadable.
Leander, on the other hand, was very excited, as if he had just won a grand prize. His dark eyes sparkled with vitality.
Seeing Leander’s enthusiasm, Claire felt a wave of depression.
"Leander, aren’t you a little too happy?"
"You don’t have to pretend. Weren’t you just reluctant to go earlier?"
Upon hearing this, Leander immediately pouted.
He looked at Claire and said, "Mommy, I’m not happy just because I’m going to see Grandma!"
"I’m just purely happy!"
"After all, Daddy just gave me a super cool watch!"
"With this watch, I can do so many things."
Claire looked at him with confusion.
"Leander, what do you mean by that?"
Thinking of Josh’s warning, Claire felt uneasy and reminded him, "Leander, don’t do anything dangerous."
Her voice was tinged with anxiety.
Children his age were naturally curious. If he got into trouble because of it, the consequences could be serious.
"Mom, don’t worry."
Leander smiled brightly at Claire, revealing his sharp little teeth.
"Even if I can’t have my own company, I’ll work hard to earn money to support you, Mom."
Upon hearing Leander’s words, Claire’s face softened into a relieved smile.
"Leander, thank you. Mom is grateful to you."
"In the future, Mom won’t need your protection. I will take care of myself."
Claire looked at Leander seriously.
Leander pouted in dissatisfaction when he heard this.
"Mom, are you looking down on me?"
"How could that be?"
"You’re so smart and cute. How could Mom possibly look down on you?"
"Even if Mom looks down on herself, she won’t look down on Leander!"
Claire looked at Leander with sincerity and determination.
"Okay, that’s good."
"Then Mom believes in Leander. Leander is also capable of protecting Mom!"
"Although Leander is young now, he is no worse than Dad!"
Upon hearing this, Alex, who had been driving silently, finally smiled and said,
"You little rascal, are you so proud that you’re even looking down on your dad?"
"No, no, Dad is the most handsome dad in the world!"
Leander hurriedly shook his head and added, "No, Dad, I won’t show it to anyone."
Watching the father and son bickering, Claire couldn’t help but laugh.
But when she thought of how dangerous the watch might be, Claire couldn’t afford to take it lightly.
She shot Alex a meaningful glance.
Alex smiled faintly and said, "However, Leander, this watch is a treasure. You can use it, but don’t let others see it. Otherwise, it will cause a lot of trouble."
Alex looked at Leander seriously as he spoke.
Leander frowned and asked, "Dad, are you worried that someone will steal this watch?""What glory and wealth do you need 1 billion to experience?"
"The Greg family is wealthy now, but there are limitations. Do you think 1 billion can truly improve your current life?"
"If you really want to bring happiness to the Greg family, then you should sell all the shares you own!"
Hearing this, Mr. Celine frowned. He never expected his son to say such words to him.
Could it be that his relationship with Miss Sophia had disgusted him?
The more he thought about it, the more uneasy he felt.
If Josh disagreed, then the family would be on the verge of breaking apart.
Thinking of this, his face darkened.
Seeing his silence, Josh assumed his words had struck a chord.
So he continued, "Aunt Sophia is very kind, and I don’t like how you’ve been acting. That’s why I’m upset with you."
"You say Aunt Sophia doesn’t appreciate things, but I think you’re the one who doesn’t appreciate anything!"
Hearing this, Claire and Alex finally understood the reason behind the tension between Celine and Sophia.
It turned out that there had been a conflict between them.
Unlike Claire, who had a sharp tongue, Miss Sophia had a gentle and soft nature. She wasn’t very skilled at handling family matters.
Mr. Celine had always adored her, which kept their relationship stable. But recently, something had caused a rift between them.
Claire and Alex watched in silence.
Seeing Josh’s aggressive stance, Mr. Celine’s face turned grim.
"What kind of attitude is this?" he snapped.
"I’m your father! Is this how you talk to me?"
"Enough, Celine, don’t scold Josh like this," Miss Sophia finally intervened, unable to hold back any longer.
"Josh is right. These material things don’t matter to me. I don’t want them."
"Whatever can be returned tomorrow will be returned. Anything that can’t be returned will be sold."
She spoke calmly, but her words made Mr. Celine panic.
"Sophia... Don’t think like that... I just... I just wanted to—"
His words were incoherent, but Miss Sophia had already anticipated what he was trying to say.
She interrupted, "Honey, I’m not just saying this on a whim."
"I want to experience happiness too, but more than that, I want us to live together peacefully, rather than being separated because of external conditions."
"As long as we live under the same roof, I am content."
"I just want our future to be as peaceful and stable as it is now. Do you understand?"
After hearing this, Mr. Celine was stunned.
Claire’s eyes widened in shock.
Even though they had guessed something was wrong, hearing it confirmed made them feel even more surprised.
Miss Sophia had endured years of hardship, yet Mr. Celine had never abandoned her.
Now that their relationship had finally stabilized, Josh’s return had caused a crack in their marriage.
At this moment, Josh sneered coldly and mocked, "Heh... This world is so small. I never expected the two of you to have such a dramatic story."
"Should I praise your love as husband and wife, or should I say you’re just obsessed with each other?"
Miss Sophia and Mr. Celine were furious.
"Enough!" Mr. Celine roared. "Josh, don’t think just because you’re my son, I won’t discipline you!"
"You ungrateful brat! How dare you speak about your mother like that?"
Just then, a servant stepped forward and whispered, "Sir, Madam, the old lady has come downstairs."
Mr. Celine immediately adjusted his expression.
Josh and Miss Sophia also fell silent and sat down at the dining table, resuming their meal.
Old Madam Greg slowly descended the stairs, supported by a servant.
Her sharp eyes scanned the living room before finally landing on Josh.
The moment their eyes met—his filled with resentment and hers with authority—her pupils contracted slightly.
Then, she turned to Claire and Alex and asked, "Why didn’t anyone inform me we had guests?"
Though her voice remained calm, it carried a weight of authority that made everyone in the room tense.
Especially Sophia and Celine, who both looked slightly guilty.
Old Madam Powell sighed. "Tonight’s dinner will be hosted by Josh. As for his father’s matter, I will handle it personally after dinner."
Upon hearing this, Mr. Celine and Miss Sophia’s expressions changed.
Miss Sophia, in particular, hadn’t expected Old Madam Powell to side with Josh. Jealousy and frustration flickered across her face.
Mr. Celine was surprised as well, but he was more pleased than anything.
He looked at Josh and said, "Alright, then it’s up to you."
"Josh... after dinner, let’s go to the study and discuss the company’s situation."
After saying this, Mr. Celine lowered his head and focused on his meal.
Claire, meanwhile, observed Old Madam Greg’s complexion.
She noticed the old lady’s face looked pale, her lips dull.
That wasn’t right.
Based on the prescription she had given, the old woman’s condition should have been under control.
Her complexion shouldn’t be like this.
However, Claire didn’t dare to ask rashly and simply kept her doubts to herself.
After dinner, Old Madam Greg asked Josh and Mr. Celine to go to the study to discuss business, while Claire and Miss Sophia remained at the dining table.
When Miss Sophia saw Alex, a pleased smile appeared on her face.
"Claire has good taste," she said. "Such a handsome husband."
"No wonder their child is so adorable."
Claire wasn’t sure if Sophia’s words were genuine or just flattery, but she still felt flattered.
"Thank you, Mom," she said politely.
Miss Sophia smiled and then casually asked, "Claire, I heard that Josh moved out and is living close to your house now."
"Since you are siblings, you should take care of each other."
Before Claire could respond, Alex suddenly snorted coldly and said, "Josh is an adult. He can take care of himself."
"Does Claire still need to babysit him?"
Claire was caught off guard by Alex’s response.
She hadn’t expected him to say that.
Miss Sophia was also stunned for a moment, then forced an awkward smile.
