Rebirth to take revenge -
Chapter 167: Changed
Chapter 167: Changed
Sensing the tense atmosphere at the table, Leander, who had been quietly eating, suddenly looked up with his big, innocent eyes and said sweetly, "Don’t worry, Grandma, Leander will take care of everyone!"
His childish words made everyone laugh, even the usually stern Old Madam Greg.
"Alright, let’s not worry about the younger generation’s affairs," she said.
Miss Sophia quickly agreed with a smile.
After a while, Claire finally found an opportunity to ask, "By the way, Madam , have you been taking the medicine I prescribed on time?"
The old woman’s expression stiffened for a moment before she nodded.
"I have," she replied. "But your mother changed a few of the ingredients, saying it would work better, wanting to get a good health and play with my grandson for a while I am taking it."
She then turned to Sophia with a sharp gaze.
"Sophia, is this true?"
Miss Sophia was momentarily taken aback.
She immediately realized that the old woman must have sensed something was wrong with the medicine.
A thin layer of sweat appeared on Claire’s forehead.
Alex noticed this instantly, and his gaze darkened.
"It seems Auntie is very confident in her medical skills," Alex remarked.
He turned to Sophia and asked coldly, "Claire’s prescription was working fine. Why did you change it?"
Miss Sophia looked slightly embarrassed but quickly composed herself.
Alex, we are family. Can’t we talk about this?" she said with a gentle smile.
She hurriedly said,
"But I heard Mr. Celine say that your illness is incurable, even if—"
Before she could finish her sentence, Old Madam Greg’s face darkened, and she interrupted,
"Those are just rumors. They are not true."
"So, whether they are true or not, you shouldn’t speak nonsense."
"I know my own body. You don’t have to worry about it."
Upon hearing Old Madam Greg’s words, Miss Sophia’s expression stiffened slightly, but she quickly composed herself and casually replied, "I understand, Mom."
"Claire, thank you for taking care of Mrs. Greg’s illness," Miss Sophia said with a smile.
Claire nodded and replied, "I’ve been preparing the medicinal ingredients for Mrs. Greg’s treatment for a long time. It’s time to use them now."
With that, Claire quickly wrote down the names of several medicines on a piece of paper and handed it to Miss Sophia, saying,
"Please boil these into a medicinal soup and take it once every two weeks. After taking it once, wait a while before taking it again."
Sophia took the prescription and turned to Old Madam Greg.
"Alright, I’ll take care of it right away."
With that, Miss Sophia stood up and left the dining room.
As she walked away, Old Madam Greg suddenly turned to Claire and asked,
"Claire, what do you think of your mother?"
The sudden question caught Claire off guard, leaving her slightly puzzled.
"What do you mean by that?" she asked.
The old woman’s tone was calm yet meaningful as she spoke,
"It’s the way she treats you. I don’t think she has ever treated you like a daughter."
"Besides, you are now a granddaughter of the Greg family, yet she has never shown you the respect you deserve."
She looked at Claire with earnest eyes and added,
"I don’t want my granddaughter to be mistreated. Do you understand what I mean?"
Her gaze sharpened.
She could tolerate all of Sophia’s behaviors, even her extravagant lifestyle in the Greg family, but she would not tolerate her mistreating Claire.
After all, Claire was part of the Powell bloodline.
Josh and Claire were her bottom line.
"Madam Greg, you are overthinking this."
"My mother and I have not seen each other in so many years. For a long time, I believed she was dead."
"Now that I’ve seen her again, I don’t know how to interact with her just yet."
"But as far as I remember, she treated me well."
Claire paused before continuing,
"And, as you just saw, there was no conflict between us. We have always maintained a superficial relationship."
Hearing this, Old Madam Greg remained expressionless.
"Alright. Since you say so, do as you wish."
Seeing this, Claire breathed a sigh of relief and smiled.
"Grandma, your condition isn’t as bad as you think."
"You just need to continue taking this medicine consistently and never stop."
The old woman nodded calmly.
"I trust you with my treatment, Claire."
"And from now on, don’t call me Madam Greg anymore. I am your grandmother."
Claire was taken aback but quickly adjusted.
"Okay, Grandma."
Their eyes met, and for a moment, they seemed to understand each other.
Claire lowered her gaze slightly, suppressing the emotions stirring in her heart.
Old Madam Greg truly treated her like a beloved granddaughter.
This feeling was unfamiliar to Claire.
Pushing aside her thoughts, she turned to Old Madam Greg and said,
"Grandma, if there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave now."
"Look, Leander has fallen asleep."
Claire pointed to Leander, who was sleeping soundly on the sofa, resting his head on Alex’s leg.
Hearing Leander’s name, the old woman’s expression softened immediately. She gazed at the child with a gentle light in her eyes.
"This child is beautiful," she murmured.
"My sweet grandson."
She nodded and said,
"Alright, you should head home now. I won’t keep you."
Claire nodded, picked up Leander, and walked toward the door.
Before stepping out, she turned back and said,
"Grandma, we’ll be leaving now."
Alex drove Claire and Leander home.
During the drive, Alex remained silent. He didn’t speak, and Claire didn’t try to start a conversation either.
The two sat quietly, lost in their thoughts.
As the car turned onto the main road, Claire’s phone rang, breaking the silence.
"Hello... yes, the baby and I are already upstairs... alright, I’ll come over tomorrow."
After hanging up, a faint smile appeared on Claire’s lips.
Alex glanced at her and asked,
"What happened? Did something good happen?"
Claire shook her head with a soft smile.
"Old Madam Greg asked me to visit again tomorrow to continue her treatment."
She smiled sweetly at Alex.
Alex raised an eyebrow slightly.
"That’s nothing to be happy about."
Claire paused and said,
"This illness is very serious. I need to handle it personally to ensure everything goes smoothly."
"I don’t understand what my mother is thinking. This illness is so dangerous, yet she dared to change the prescription midway."
"Fortunately, I caught it in time. Otherwise, Grandma’s condition would have..."
Her voice carried deep concern.
Hearing this, Alex frowned.
Claire was a simple person, but he had seen too much of the dark side of the wealthy.
"There are always power struggles in wealthy families. The Greg family is no exception."
"Maybe your mother has her own agenda."
"But as long as we handle things properly, it doesn’t matter."
Claire frowned slightly.
"Are you saying my mother wants Grandma’s condition to worsen?"
"But why would she do that?"
Alex remained silent.
Claire felt a wave of doubt rise in her heart.
In her memory, her mother had once run a medical clinic, dedicating herself to saving lives.
All the money she earned had been donated to the elderly and children in need.
She had never been a vain woman.
But now, she was spending money like water and even trying to harm Old Madam Greg?
Was it all for money?
The more Claire thought about it, the stranger it seemed.
"Stop overthinking it," Alex interrupted.
"Even if there’s something going on, as long as it doesn’t involve you, focus on treating the illness."
"But if it does involve you..."
A cold glint flashed in his eyes as he added,
"I won’t show mercy just because she is your mother."
Alex wasn’t interested in why Sophia wanted to harm Old Madam Greg.
The reasons were irrelevant to him.
But if she dared to hurt Claire, he wouldn’t hesitate to make the Greg family pay.
Claire hesitated but eventually nodded, letting go of her thoughts.
Back at the Miller family villa, Claire took Leander upstairs to rest.
The next morning, Alex left early for work.
Claire took Leander to have breakfast before heading to the Greg estate.
Overnight, the once extravagant decorations in the Greg mansion had been removed.
Claire couldn’t help but admire the efficiency of the Greg family.
When Old Madam Greg saw Claire, a faint smile appeared on her face.
She called Claire and Leander to sit beside her.
Leander swung his short legs happily, bouncing on the chair.
Old Madam Greg gazed at him affectionately.
"Leander, come to Great-Grandmother."
Hearing this, Leander jumped off the chair and ran to her.
"I heard from Josh that this child is very intelligent," She said.
"If he is nurtured well, he could become the heir to the Greg Group in the future."
Claire was stunned.
Was the old woman planning to make Leander the Greg family heir?
According to her logic, Leander was her great-grandson.
And Claire was a Greg by blood.
So, in the end, Leander had the right to inherit the Greg Group.
But...
What about the Miller Group?
