Rebirth to take revenge
Chapter 131: Indifference

Chapter 131: Indifference

Upon hearing this, Claire sneered and said, "Whether I’m worthy or not, Josh knows best. Since that’s the case, why did you call me? Did you just want me to give you a reality check? If so, congratulations, you succeeded!"

"You!" The woman on the other end of the phone was so furious that she shouted.

Claire didn’t waste any more words and hung up. She knew Josh’s grandmother was ill, and Josh had a very bad temper when it came to family matters, so she didn’t dare risk upsetting him further.

After hanging up the phone, Claire began walking outside.

"Doctor Claire!"

Suddenly, she heard Josh’s voice behind her. Turning around, she looked at him.

"What’s the matter?"

"I have something to tell you. Come with me now," Josh said, glancing at Claire before walking toward the backyard of the Greg residence.

Claire had no choice but to follow him. They walked into the backyard, and Josh stopped in his tracks.

Claire looked at Josh’s profile and asked, confused, "What’s the matter, young master?"

"Who was on the phone just now?" Josh questioned.

"No one," Claire replied, looking puzzled.

"If it was no one, then why did you leave after answering the call?" Josh pressed.

Instead of answering, Claire pursed her lips and asked, "Why did you ask me to move here?"

Josh’s expression changed at her question. After a moment, he cleared his throat and said, "Didn’t I already explain the reason?"

"Since it’s for your grandmother’s illness, I hope not to be disturbed during my treatment," Claire interrupted coldly. "Especially not by your family affairs, Mr. Greg."

Seeing Josh’s displeased expression, Claire didn’t want to waste any more time on him and turned around, saying, "If you have any influence in this household, I believe you can handle these matters well."

"Or perhaps, you’re just a henpecked husband?"

Josh’s face twisted with anger upon hearing Claire’s words. He took a deep breath and tried to control his emotions. He knew that Claire was deliberately trying to provoke him, but he couldn’t do anything about it. This woman had first mocked him for being poor, and now she was mocking him for not having a temper?

But he had been single for so long, where did a wife come from? Josh was puzzled, but soon he understood. There was only one person who could do such a thing.

"Alright, you don’t have to worry about me doing anything to harm you. Just stay here obediently!" Josh said firmly. Claire didn’t respond, and Josh felt a bit relieved when she didn’t refuse. He turned to leave the villa.

As he walked out the door, he saw a woman standing in the yard. A look of disgust crossed Josh’s face as he turned to leave. The woman hurriedly caught up with him.

"Josh... Josh..." The woman called out to him, and his eyebrows raised slightly, but he still stopped.

"What do you want?"

"Josh, why did you let Claire move into the Greg family?"

Hearing the woman’s words, Josh frowned.

"This is a matter for our family. You have no right to interfere!" he said coldly.

"Josh, don’t you remember? I am the woman you’re supposed to marry," Lucy continued.

"How many times do I have to repeat myself? I said, this is our family’s business, and you have no right to interfere!" Josh snapped.

"Josh, who is Claire?" Lucy asked, surprised by his reaction.

Josh looked coldly at her and said, "Lucy, shut up! This is a private matter for the Greg family, and it has nothing to do with you!"

Hearing Josh’s words, Lucy’s face showed a hint of unwillingness. She gritted her teeth and said, "Josh, don’t blame me for not reminding you. The current Greg Group is not the same as it was before. Are you sure you want to break ties with me because of this woman?"

Hearing Lucy’s threat, Josh sneered, "Break ties with you? Do you think you’re qualified?"

Lucy, now angry and embarrassed, shot back, "We’re engaged! We have a common goal and a common enemy!"

"So, you want to use me to deal with her?" Josh asked.

Lucy nodded. "Yes, I want to use you to deal with her! I want to see how long she can remain so arrogant!"

Josh, hearing this, said disdainfully, "Do you think I’m afraid of her?"

Lucy smiled and said, "I know you, Josh, are not afraid of her, so I’m not afraid of her either! But we have the same goal. I don’t mind working with you to make her feel the bitterness of being abandoned!"

Josh’s eyes darkened as he said coldly, "If you dare touch Claire, try it!"

Hearing this, Lucy’s face twisted with a sinister expression. "Then let’s give it a try!" she said before turning around and leaving.

Josh watched as Lucy walked away, his brow furrowing even deeper. Lucy wasn’t only targeting Claire, but even the Greg Group was in her crosshairs. Thinking of this, Josh clenched his fists tighter.

"This woman from the Miller family is too arrogant!" Josh muttered to himself.

Just then, Claire approached. "What are you doing?" she asked in a cold voice.

Seeing Claire approach, Josh snapped out of his thoughts. "Nothing," he replied before getting up and walking towards the hall. Claire followed closely behind.

Josh sat on the sofa, crossed his legs, and asked coldly, "Do you have something to tell me?"

Claire narrowed her eyes slightly. "Mr. Greg, I can’t help but feel that you’re unable to handle that woman."

"Can you really guarantee my safety while I’m here?" she asked, her tone skeptical.

Josh’s face darkened. "Claire, watch your tone!" he warned.

"I’m sorry, my attitude is under my control," Claire replied calmly.

Josh’s face twisted with anger at her words. "Claire, you better remember your current status. Don’t forget, you are a doctor!"

"I’m well aware of my current status," Claire replied, unfazed.

"If you know, then how dare you speak like this?" Josh demanded.

After Claire left, Josh took out his phone and made a call.

"Go check someone’s whereabouts immediately!" he ordered.

After hanging up the phone, Josh’s expression turned dark and grim.

"James!"

"Yes, Mr. Greg?"

"Also, send more people to my house. Remember, you must protect Claire’s safety!"

"Yes, Mr. Greg."

"One more thing," Josh added, "keep an eye on Lucy. If she does anything suspicious, let me know immediately."

"Understood, Mr. Greg," James replied.

After the call ended, Josh looked out the window, his face cold and stern.

Lucy wanted to harm Claire? He would never allow it!

The next day, as soon as Claire walked out of her bedroom, she saw Alex and Leander sitting in the living room.

Seeing the two of them, Claire’s face stiffened, and she quickly looked toward Josh.

Josh seemed oblivious to their presence, leisurely reading the newspaper.

Seeing this, Claire grew anxious.

She quickly walked over to Josh and asked Alex, "How did you get here?"

Seeing Claire’s flustered expression, Leander looked puzzled and asked, "Mom, didn’t you say you were going out to relax? Why didn’t you stay with me? Does Mom not want me anymore?"

Seeing Leander’s teary-eyed look, Claire’s heart ached.

She rushed over to Leander, gently explaining, "Leander, Mom didn’t mean to not take you out to play. It’s just that Mom has some things to deal with, so we’ve temporarily moved here. Once I’m finished, I’ll take you out to play."

Leander’s eyes brightened at her words. "What about Dad? Mom, you said Dad is your husband, so why don’t you live with him?"

"Leander, listen to Mom, I’ll explain everything to you slowly," Claire replied, trying to maintain her composure.

"Okay," Leander agreed, though reluctantly.

Seeing that Claire didn’t want to explain further, Leander compromised, but he couldn’t help sneaking glances at Josh.

Looking at Josh’s cold, arrogant demeanor, Leander muttered in his heart, "Why doesn’t this uncle look anything like Dad? Dad is the best man in the world."

Josh, of course, knew what Leander was thinking.

Seeing the boy’s disgusted look, Josh’s face immediately darkened.

Claire’s face stiffened at the sight of this but said nothing.

"Cough, cough."

Claire pretended to cough a few times.

Seeing Josh’s gaze fall on her, Claire forced a laugh and said, "If there’s nothing else, I need to prepare to treat the old lady’s illness."

"Wait."

Josh stopped Claire. "I’ve decided to let Mr. Miller and your son move into the Greg mansion as well."

As soon as Josh spoke, the living room fell into a dead silence. Claire’s face turned pale instantly.

This bastard! He actually wants both father and son to live in the Greg family home?

Thinking of this, Claire gritted her teeth and said, "You can forget about it! This is my business, and I’ll make my own decisions!"

Leander looked at Claire’s angry face and couldn’t help but ask, "Mom, why don’t you let Dad and me move in together?"

Upon hearing this, a wicked smile appeared on Josh’s lips. He wanted to see how this woman would explain herself.

Claire heard Leander’s words, her face changing from red to white, and finally to indifference.
