Rebirth to take revenge -
Chapter 130: Protection
Chapter 130: Protection
Seeing that Claire had agreed, Josh’s face lit up with joy. He handed her the gold card and said, "The password is six zeros. Remember it—and don’t try any tricks."
"Understood," Claire said, taking the bank card from Josh and putting it in her bag.
As her eyes glanced over Josh, she noticed the excitement on his face, and Claire couldn’t help but frown. For some reason, seeing Josh so happy gave her an inexplicable feeling of discomfort. However, she didn’t dwell on it. She sent Josh to the door, watching as he got into his car and drove away.
Claire didn’t return to the hospital until Josh’s car had disappeared from sight. When she pushed open the door to the medical clinic, she saw Alex staring at her with a gloomy expression.
"You did all this just to leave the Miller house and live in the Greg house?" Alex asked in a cold voice.
Seeing his expression, Claire couldn’t help but smile wryly. She knew her intentions had been too obvious to hide from Alex, who was as shrewd as a fox. Thinking this over, Claire looked at Alex and said, "Yeah, do you have a problem with that?"
"Do you understand what this means to a normal person? Do you realize how domineering Josh is? He’s unreasonable, and his cruelty is beyond what you can imagine. Once you fall into his hands, the consequences will be disastrous. Moreover, your actions will make everyone in City A aware that you, as the Miller family’s daughter-in-law, are now living with the Greg family. Do you think that’s appropriate?" Alex’s voice became lower and more serious as he spoke.
"Does this have anything to do with you?" Claire responded calmly.
Alex frowned at her, let out a cold snort, and said, "Of course, it has nothing to do with me. But don’t you think you should consider Leander’s feelings?"
Alex took a deep breath, trying to calm himself, and said, "Fine, let’s see how this plays out." With that, he turned and walked out.
Claire watched Alex leave, a small smirk playing on her lips. Who did that old fox think he was? He even had the nerve to flirt with her. But Claire didn’t take it to heart.
After all, she was also surprised that she’d managed to secure a place in the Greg family’s household. The Greg family wasn’t just wealthy; they were powerful. The head of the Greg family was one of the most influential men in the Dragon Kingdom. Even if Cole wanted to kill her again, he wouldn’t dare challenge the Greg family head-on.
Besides, if she managed to cure Josh’s grandmother, Claire could potentially ask the Greg family for help in the future. She had thought through all of this, but for now, she kept those thoughts to herself.
She returned home, packed a few things, and left the clinic. Claire took a taxi to the Greg house. After finding a servant, she handed her the bank card.
Upon seeing the card, the servant immediately recognized it and respectfully said, "It’s Dr. Claire. The young master has already given instructions. Please follow me."
Claire nodded and followed the servant upstairs. The servant led her to a room and knocked on the door. Claire stood outside for a moment, glanced at the closed door, and then opened it and entered.
Inside, a little girl, about four or five years old, sat on the sofa playing with a puzzle. The coffee table beside her was filled with various snacks and drinks. As soon as the little girl saw Claire, she immediately looked up and shouted, "Sister, you’re so beautiful, just like the one in the picture! Daddy, Daddy! The pretty sister is here!"
Upon hearing the girl’s shout, Josh looked up at Claire, who was standing by the door, and a look of surprise flashed across his face.
She was tall and slender, with a curvy figure. Dressed in a simple, casual white dress with her long hair flowing over her shoulders, she exuded a gentle and peaceful air. This version of Claire, in contrast to the woman he had seen in her white medical coat, seemed like an entirely different person.
Claire noticed Josh sizing her up and felt a little uncomfortable. After a couple of seconds, she looked away.
Realizing his impoliteness, Josh coughed lightly and said, "You’re here."
"Then we’ll do it your way. However, I have a condition," Josh looked at Claire and said, "You must remember that we are only in a cooperative relationship. Don’t cross any lines. Otherwise, your fate will be worse than your grandmother’s."
"Okay, I promise," Claire nodded without hesitation.
Seeing this, Josh breathed a sigh of relief.
"You can go now. I have something else to do."
Claire nodded and left. After she was gone, Josh took out his phone and made a call.
The call was quickly answered by a gentle voice on the other end.
"Young master? What can I do for you?"
"Send someone to protect Miss Claire."
"Okay, I’ll take care of it!"
After hanging up, Josh dialed another number.
The phone rang twice before someone answered.
"Young master, did you call for me?"
"How is the person you arranged doing?"
"Don’t worry, young master. He’s on his way back."
Josh smiled and said, "Very good."
"Young master, that female doctor, Claire, by your side has offended someone. You shouldn’t have brought her to the mansion."
"You’re speaking out of turn!" Josh coldly rebuked.
The person on the other end of the phone immediately fell silent.
"Okay, you can go back to what you were doing."
"Yes."
After hanging up, Josh narrowed his eyes.
Claire? Who did she offend?
"Is it... the Miller family?" A trace of coldness flashed in Josh’s eyes.
The next morning, at the Greg family villa, a servant hurriedly reported, "Young master, the old lady is awake!"
Upon hearing the servant’s words, Josh immediately jumped up from his chair and rushed out of the room. He arrived at his grandmother’s room and saw the once-unconscious old lady slowly opening her eyes. The moment she woke up and saw Josh standing beside her, she was momentarily stunned. Then, joy spread across her face.
Excitedly, she grabbed Josh’s hand and asked, "Did Dr. Claire come to our house?"
Josh nodded and asked, "Grandma, how do you feel?"
Shaking her head, Grandma Greg said, "My body is a bit weak..."
Josh frowned and said, "I’ll ask the doctor to do everything possible to help you recover. I hope you will get better soon!"
Grandma Greg nodded in gratitude and said, "Thank you, son!"
Josh felt a pang in his heart when he heard her words of gratitude. He knew there were many things hidden behind that simple "thank you." No matter how much he struggled inside, he could only silently endure it. He owed her too much. Over the years, it was Grandma Greg who had raised him and given him everything. He had to repay her!
Josh’s mother had died early. Besides Grandma Greg, he had no one to rely on all these years. He had no parents or siblings.
Josh had been an orphan since childhood, always regarding Mrs. Greg as his grandmother. No matter what Mrs. Greg asked him to do, he would readily agree without hesitation.
"You’re welcome!" Josh gave her a shallow smile.
"Josh, I’m not feeling well right now. I’ll take a nap first."
"Okay, Grandma. You rest. I’ll make sure the doctor stays here until you fully recover."
"Okay," Mrs. Greg nodded.
Seeing her nod, Josh turned and left the room, heading downstairs.
The news of Claire staying at the Greg family villa quickly spread.
That night, Claire had just finished dinner and was walking in the yard to aid digestion when she received an unfamiliar phone call. She raised an eyebrow upon seeing the unknown number but answered it.
A sharp female voice came from the other end of the line.
"Are you Claire?"
Upon hearing the woman’s voice, Claire immediately retorted, "Who are you?"
There was a moment of silence before the woman spoke again, "Who I am is none of your business. You get out of the Greg family villa right now."
Claire frowned slightly upon hearing this arrogant demand.
"Sorry, without Josh’s approval, I won’t leave!"
"Hmph, who do you think you are? Don’t pretend to be something you’re not! Don’t forget your place! You’re not worthy!" The woman’s tone was full of anger and resentment.
"Doctor Claire, what’s the matter?" The woman taunted.
Claire’s face showed a hint of a cold smile.
"Well, thank you for the reminder. If you think I’m acting, then let me ask: are you satisfied with my performance? If so, please tell Josh that I’m more than happy to accompany him!"
There was silence on the other end of the phone.
After a long pause, the woman’s voice rang out again.
"Hmph, Claire, do you think it’s easy to be Mrs. Greg? Let me tell you, Josh’s wife can only be me! You’re not worthy!"
