Chapter 120: Save the Smith family
Chapter 120: Save the Smith family
"Sorry..."
Alex was taken aback. He lowered his head and looked at the petite and slender Claire in his arms. "What’s wrong?" he asked with concern as he reached out, stroked Claire’s hair, and pulled her closer.
"I know you don’t like Jack, but I still invited him to the house," Claire said, leaning on Alex’s chest.
"You must be annoyed. It’s okay," Alex shook his head. "Don’t worry, I won’t blame you."Claire raised her head and looked at Alex’s handsome face, feeling warmth surge through her heart.
"I’m not afraid of you."
"That’s good," Alex’s lips curled into a doting smile.
"I’m just worried you might not want to."A sweet smile appeared on Claire’s face.
"Silly," Alex said, reaching out to lightly scratch the tip of her nose. "When did Jack say he would come?"
"I rejected him so he wouldn’t be suspicious. He’ll probably make an appointment with me soon," Claire replied.
"Good," Alex nodded with a smile.
The two exchanged a few more words and then headed to their rooms to rest.
The next day, Jack called again, and Claire answered."Claire, I’ve been busy with work today and forgot to contact you," Jack’s voice sounded on the line, immediately reminding Claire of their conversation the night before.
Jack was trying to show weakness, hoping she’d let him off easy."How’s your health?" Claire asked.
"It’s very bad. If you don’t help, your uncle’s time is limited!" Jack’s gentle voice came through.
"Okay," Claire responded."Thank you, Claire," Jack smiled.
"You don’t have to thank me. After all, we’re partners, and we should help each other,"
Claire said, pausing before continuing, "But still no news about Cole?"
"Claire, I’ve already sent someone to search for him," Jack said.
"Alright, thank you for your effort," Claire replied."Claire, I heard Alex is on a business trip. You mustn’t tell him about this," Jack cautioned."Okay, I won’t."
"Alright then. I’ll come over later."
"Okay, see you soon."After hanging up, Claire’s face grew serious. She stared out the window, her mind racing, hesitating about what to do next.
"Ding Dong." The doorbell rang. Claire opened the door to find Jack standing there, holding a gift and smiling.
"Claire, I just bought some supplements from the Western Medical Clinic and came to deliver them to you," Jack said, handing her the package.
Claire reached out to take it. "Thank you.""Come on, no need to thank me" Jack smiled. "I know you’ve been busy with work lately, so I bought some supplements.
"Claire nodded. "Come inside first."
"Okay, Claire, let’s sit and talk."
Jack walked in, looked around, and after seeing that Alex wasn’t there, he secretly heaved a sigh of relief. He put the tonic on the coffee table.
"Claire, take this first, we’ll discuss the specific treatment plan after we eat."
"Yes." Claire nodded and placed the tonic on the table.
"By the way, how is Alex?" Jack suddenly asked.
Claire was taken aback, then smiled and said, "What happens to him is up to me."
"Hehe, that’s true."
Jack smiled. "Claire, don’t get me wrong, I’m just concerned about his safety."
"I know." Claire replied.
"Since you’re fine, Claire, can you take a look at your Uncle’s illness? Can it be cured?" Jack asked tentatively.
Claire’s expression was indifferent as she stared down at the nail polish on her fingernails and said, "Uncle’s illness is actually not as simple as it seems on the surface."
Hearing this, Jack’s heart skipped a beat. He pretended to be calm and asked, "Why do you say that?"
Claire sighed quietly. "your disease is kidney failure, or to be more specific, chronic kidney failure."
"Chronic renal failure?" Jack frowned.
Claire nodded. "That’s right. Second Uncle is getting old. Even though he usually takes care of his health, old age and frailty are unavoidable."
"So, you’re saying there’s no hope?" Jack asked.
Claire didn’t respond directly, but the answer was clear.
Jack took a deep breath. Even though he had expected it, hearing the actual result still made him uncomfortable.
"No, you’re so skilled. How could you be helpless?" he muttered to himself. "Claire, you must have a way to save me right?" Jack said excitedly, grabbing Claire’s arm.
Claire patted the back of his hand gently. "I’ll find a way. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely save him."
Hearing this, Jack finally felt a little relieved.
Seeing Jack’s anxiety, Claire comforted him, "You don’t have to worry too much. We still have time. Let’s plan things carefully."
"Okay, I understand," Jack nodded.
Claire pursed her lips and said, "For your condition, you’ll need long-term medication."
"During this period, you’ll need to dedicate enough time to take care of yourself or else you won’t make it."
"Of course, I’ll cooperate fully," Jack said seriously.
Claire nodded slightly and then added, "You’ll need to come to my house every day."
Upon hearing this, Jack was stunned.
Leaving aside when Alex would return, just the daily commute was enough to tire Jack out. After thinking it over, Jack looked bitter and said, "Claire, can’t you give your uncle a prescription and let him treat himself?"
"I’m afraid that won’t work," Claire shook her head. "Your illness requires acupuncture and medicinal baths to be cured."
"Oh, I see," Jack suddenly realized.
"Your health is already not good, and now I can’t afford to be careless. If something happens, it will be too late to regret," Claire warned.
"Okay," Jack nodded. "Then starting tomorrow, I’ll report to your house every day."
"Okay," Claire nodded. "I’ll tell you what to do when you come tomorrow."
"Alright, I’ll be there at nine o’clock sharp tomorrow morning," Jack said before leaving Claire’s house.
When Alex came down the stairs and heard Jack’s words, he raised his eyebrows in surprise. But he didn’t say anything and left.
"He’s coming?" Alex asked incredulously.
"Yes, his illness is not easy to treat," Claire nodded. "I will handle this matter properly."
"That old man is really persistent," Alex cursed.
"You should say less," Claire said helplessly.
Alex snorted and sat on the sofa, giving Claire a displeased look.
The next morning, Jack arrived at Claire’s house on time. Claire prepared breakfast for him, and the two of them ate and talked.
Jack had a very poor appetite and barely ate anything, while Claire finished all the food on the table.
"Uncle, you should eat a little more," Claire urged.
"Sigh..., even if you ask me to eat, I can’t eat much," Jack sighed.
"Uncle, no matter what, you have to take care of your health. Only when you are healthy can you do more things," Claire advised.
Jack fell silent for a moment before slowly saying, "I know."
After breakfast, Claire prepared to give him acupuncture.
Claire took Jack to the backyard and used a silver needle to stimulate his acupuncture points, starting to help him recover.
"How long do you need to help me with acupuncture?" Jack asked.
"The fastest would be two weeks, the slowest would be a month," Claire frowned.
Usually, Nervous treatment only takes three to five minutes, or even less. But this time, Claire spent a whole hour. This delay in time was very abnormal.
"Claire, what’s wrong?" Jack asked in confusion.
"Uncle, your condition is more serious than I thought," Claire said. "Yesterday, when you came, I checked your injuries."
Jack asked nervously, "How is it?"
Claire said, "According to the injuries, even if you continued to take the previous prescription, it wouldn’t have led to this level of exhaustion. I guess you must have used other medications during this time?"
Hearing Claire’s words, Jack’s face turned pale instantly.
"You’ve guessed it all," he said.
"Yes, your reaction has already explained everything, hasn’t it?" Claire said calmly.
"I’m sorry, Claire, I hid this from you," Jack said with great guilt.
Meanwhile, at Anna’s home, she had just finished washing up and was resting in bed when the doorbell suddenly rang.
She rubbed her eyes and lazily got up to open the door, only to find a stranger standing outside.
"Who are you looking for?" Anna asked warily.
The man, who looked to be in his forties with an ordinary appearance, had the only striking feature of his dark gray pupils, which looked like an ancient well covered in dust.
He stared at Anna and spoke in a calm tone, "Mr. Cole sent me."
Upon hearing this, Anna was taken aback and asked, "Him? What does he want?"
"I don’t know, but he instructed me to give you this letter as soon as I see you," the man said, taking out a letter from his pocket and handing it to Anna.
"Thank you," Anna said, taking the letter politely.
The man didn’t say anything further and left directly.
Watching the man disappear at the end of the alley, Anna couldn’t help but frown.
She closed the door and opened the envelope, finding a note inside.
"I have arrived in City A."
The simple seven words made Anna ecstatic. She eagerly took out the note and read its contents.
