Rebirth to take revenge
Chapter 119: A Night of Warmth

Chapter 119: A Night of Warmth

Alex’s heart seemed to skip a beat. He stared at Claire, who was now so close, and forgot to react. The kiss was light and brief.

Claire let go of him and took a step back, feeling a little uneasy as she lowered her head. Her ears flushed red. She hadn’t expected to take the initiative to kiss him.

Alex stood in a daze, his heart in turmoil, unable to calm down. A smile tugged at the corners of his lips, an indescribable joy and growing anticipation swelling in his chest. His Claire had finally made the first move.

His face lit up with excitement, and his voice trembled slightly.

"You..."

Before he could say more, Claire turned abruptly.

"I’m leaving. I need to see Leander," she said, her voice flustered.

She hurried to leave as if escaping, but Alex grabbed her arm. The momentum caused her to stumble back into his embrace.

"Claire," he said, holding her tightly. "I’ve been waiting for you for so long. How can you just walk away like that?"

He turned her around and kissed her again, this time with force and passion. His lips claimed hers in a dominant kiss, leaving her breathless.

Claire was stunned. Alex’s kiss was overwhelming, catching her off guard. Yet, she didn’t resist. Instead, she wrapped her arms around his neck, holding on as the intensity of the moment enveloped them both.

A Night of Warmth

When Claire woke up again, she was disturbed by the sound outside the door. Anna had arrived. Claire was puzzled by her arrival. She had already given her the antidote, so she didn’t understand why Anna still came to see her.

After getting up and stretching her sore body, Claire washed up and opened the door. Susan was standing outside. Her face was somewhat pale, as if she had experienced a great setback.

"Why are you here?" Claire’s tone was a bit cold.

Susan’s body trembled but quickly returned to normal. "Madam Claire, thank you for giving me the antidote."

"I couldn’t get to give the antidote to my Madam" Claire looked at Susan, who was avoiding her gaze.

Susan’s voice was hoarse. "My Madam died."

Claire’s footsteps paused for a moment.

Claire turned around and looked at Susan without saying a word.

There was a hint of sadness on Susan’s face. "I know she brought it on herself, but I still hope you can help me."

At the end, Susan’s eyes were moist.

"Are you begging me?" Claire’s voice was cold.

She didn’t like anyone in the Smith family. If it weren’t for avenging her mother, she wouldn’t have married Alex.

"I know it’s too much to ask of you," Susan whispered, "but, Madam, please, I’m helpless on my own."

Susan’s eyes were full of sorrow and sadness. Claire hesitated.

"What do you want me to do?"

Susan looked up at Claire with some hope.

"Can you release Sebastian and her daughter?"

Claire was stunned. She had never thought that this maid would ask for her help for Sebastian.

"Sebastian is indirectly my adoptive father, although he sees me as his employee but I will cherish every moment he accommodated me in his house"

"I know, your bond is extraordinary," Susan’s voice revealed a hint of bitterness. "I don’t want you to forgive Sebastian. I just... don’t want him to suffer because of my Late Madam anymore."

Claire fell silent. She didn’t know how to make a decision.

"Claire, it’s okay if you don’t agree. I just hope that you can save some face for the Smith family."

"Don’t worry, I won’t make things difficult for Sebastian anymore," Claire interrupted.

She had never thought of making things difficult for Sudan but Anna’s attitude was really annoying her.

"You can go back now; I need to think about it," Claire said, her face looking unpleasant.

Susan knew she had to leave everything to faith now so she didn’t insist anymore, said goodbye, and left. Watching Susan’s departing figure, Claire’s eyes became somewhat dim. She had a premonition that this matter was probably not that simple. .

"Should we let them go?" Behind her, Alex’s voice sounded.

Claire turned her head and looked at Alex.

"You decide," Claire said.

"Don’t worry, I won’t force you to do anything," Alex said. "I just don’t want you to be bullied by anyone."

Upon hearing this, Claire’s eyes narrowed slightly.

"Thank you," Claire’s voice was a little hoarse.

Alex looked at her thin figure, which made him feel a little distressed. Although Claire looked fragile on the outside, she was very stubborn inside. He knew she wasn’t easy to bully, which was why he let Anna go.

But could she really forgive everyone in the Smith family deep down in her heart?

Alex waved his hand, and the bodyguards behind him immediately stepped forward.

"Let them go," Alex ordered.

"Yes," the bodyguards respectfully replied.

They escorted Anna and her father out of Alex’s mansion. Alex watched their figures disappear into the distance, his face becoming somewhat solemn.

Claire’s heart was in turmoil. She couldn’t figure out why Anna had suddenly changed her mind. However, this matter had never given Claire a satisfactory answer. She had to investigate this thoroughly, and no matter what the result was, she wouldn’t regret the decision she made today!

At dusk, Alex knocked on Claire’s door. Claire opened the door.

Alex looked at the beautiful Claire in front of him, lost in thought for a moment, then a faint smile appeared on his face.

"What are you here for?" Claire asked, somewhat guarded. Her voice was still cold.

"Tomorrow, I will publicly announce my business trip to the outside world," Alex said. "Jack will come to your house to see you for treatment when he sees it." Alex glanced at Claire. "But I won’t really leave."

"If he wants to harm you, I’ll make him regret it," Alex declared domineeringly, then stared at Claire and asked seriously, "Claire, do you think this is okay?"

There was a hint of exhaustion in Claire’s expression.

"Well, this is a good idea. You can arrange it," Claire nodded indifferently. "I’m a little tired."

"Okay, you rest first." Alex turned around and left with his people.

Claire walked into the bedroom, took off her shoes, and lay down on the bed. She closed her eyes but couldn’t fall asleep no matter what.

The image of Anna from today appeared in her mind, so humble and pitiful. Why did Anna do this? There were too many doubts and suspicions in Claire’s heart. All of this needed to be investigated thoroughly before anyone could know the truth.

The next day, Alex indeed released a statement. It was short, simply stating that he had gone on a business trip abroad. Due to his actions, Miller Corporation’s stock skyrocketed.

Claire had been waiting for Jack’s call, but unfortunately, there had been no news for several days. Jack wasn’t foolish, and he naturally suspected that this was a conspiracy by Alex against him. However, he also knew that he couldn’t delay any longer, as his body couldn’t take it anymore. Reluctantly, he called Claire.

Claire was getting ready to sleep when she suddenly heard her phone ringing. She picked it up, saw Jack’s name flashing on the screen, and felt a bit surprised.

After hesitating for a moment, Claire answered the call. "Claire, it’s Jack," Jack’s voice had a hint of nervousness.

Claire chuckled. Jack’s voice was still gentle and refined, but something was off. "Yes, what’s up?" she asked.

"Are you going to be at home tomorrow? I happen to have some free time and want you to help my uncle see a doctor," Jack said.

Hearing this, a cold smile appeared on the corner of Claire’s mouth. Jack is a smart person. Claire knew that he had already picked up on a clue.

"Oh, I’ve been busy running around recently, so I can’t find the time right now. Maybe you should wait a few more days," Claire refused, careful not to let Jack sense the impatience in her heart.

Otherwise, Alex’s business trip would be noticed by him as a trap. After all, Jack was thoughtful; otherwise, he wouldn’t have waited so many days to call.

Jack pondered for a while. "I still want to ask you to help me," his voice remained calm, but inside, he felt relieved. He realized Claire had refused him because she wanted to wait for Alex to return before inviting him. But how could Jack give her a chance? For Jack, now was the best time!

Claire frowned. "I’m not free, Jack. Don’t force me," she said firmly before hanging up.

Sitting in the bedroom, Jack frowned as he watched Claire hang up the phone. He knew he had to seize this opportunity and get Claire to treat his illness while Alex was away.

On the other side, Claire held the phone with a serious expression. She couldn’t risk it. The appearance of Anna made her feel a sense of crisis, and Alex’s attitude only accelerated her decision.

Claire cleaned up and walked out of the bedroom. In the living room, Alex stood by the windowsill, his back looking lonely. Seeing this, Claire felt a sudden pang of sadness. She stepped forward and hugged him.
