Rebirth to take revenge
Chapter 118: His lips

Chapter 118: His lips

Just as Claire was pondering, the door of the study suddenly opened. Alex looked up and happened to meet Claire’s complex gaze. He raised his eyebrows, his lips slightly curved, and asked, "Do you have something to tell me?"

Claire instinctively turned her head away, her heart beating faster. "No," she said.

Seeing her awkward appearance, Alex chuckled lightly and went downstairs. "How is Leander’s condition?" he asked casually as he sat down on the sofa.

"It has stabilized," Claire nodded slightly.

Watching Alex’s slender figure, Claire thought for a moment and then walked toward the sofa. She sat down next to Alex, the distance between them close. Claire lowered her head slightly and looked at Alex’s face. Her expression was calm, but she couldn’t hide the turmoil in her heart.

"Jack..." Claire began softly.

"Hmm?" Hearing her words, Alex responded, his gaze falling on her, waiting for her to continue.

Claire pursed her lips, her heart tightening. "Are you and him close?" she asked, mustering her courage. Her voice sounded tense.

But Alex didn’t immediately react to her words. He simply looked at Claire with an inexplicable expression in his eyes.

"Oh?" Alex smiled. "Why suddenly ask about my relationship with Jack?"

"Did Jack do something to hurt me?" Alex asked deliberately.

"No." Claire quickly denied, "That’s not what I meant."

"I want to ask... how did old master Miller die? Do you remember?"

Hearing her words, Alex’s gaze instantly turned cold. He stared at Claire, his tone laced with uncontrollable anger.

Claire felt uncomfortable under his intense stare and instinctively avoided his gaze.

"Claire, what are you trying to say?" Alex suddenly grabbed her arm and pulled her into his arms.

"I did forget a lot of things, but what I forgot, you can tell me."

"No need to hide it. I will believe you," Alex said, his tone firm with each word.

Feeling the scorching heat on her chest, Claire’s heart was pounding hard. She was surprised by this, as in her memory, Alex had always been cautious and would never trust her unconditionally like this.

Claire struggled to break free from Alex’s grasp, but the more she struggled, the tighter his grip became, making it impossible for her to break free. In the end, Claire gave up.

"Forget about what happened before. I just want to remind you that Jack may be harmful to you," she said. "I’ve said what I needed to say, I hope you take it to heart."

Claire released herself from Alex’s grip, got up, and walked toward the bedroom door. However, as soon as she turned around, Alex’s strong arms wrapped around her waist, imprisoning her.

"Claire!" Alex gritted his teeth and shouted.

"I’m here," Claire nodded obediently.

Seeing her so docile and compliant, Alex felt an irresistible urge. "I’ll tell you everything you want to know," he said in an unquestionable tone.

"I’ve forgotten a lot of things, so if you tell me, then I’ll know everything," Claire replied.

"This time, you have to help me. Otherwise..." Alex’s fingers lightly stroked Claire’s soft hair. "I can’t guarantee what kind of fantasies your words will give me, or what kind of harm I’ll do to him."

Upon hearing this, Claire trembled. "I..." she opened her mouth but couldn’t say anything. A mix of emotions welled up inside her, complicated beyond measure.

"I know you want revenge, and you’re a smart woman," Alex released Claire slowly and said, "So, you will need my help, won’t you?"

As Alex spoke, he looked at Claire with intense eyes. Claire lowered her head slightly and remained silent.

"Okay, I promise you," Alex finally spoke after a long pause.

Although she didn’t know why Alex suddenly agreed, it was still good news. Claire stood up from the sofa and looked at Alex, saying slowly, "Would you like a drink?"

Alex nodded and said, "Of course."

Claire picked up the bottle of brandy on the table and poured a glass, handing it to Alex. "Thank you," Alex smiled and took the glass, taking a sip.

"You are the CEO of Miller Corporation. Jack must want to deal with you. If we work together..." Claire began, but Alex’s expression darkened.

Heiikmj looked at Claire and sneered, "Aren’t you afraid that I’ll sell you out?"

Claire smiled, "I trust you. You’ve never lied to me before, not in the past or present."

At her words, Alex narrowed his eyes and said, "Since you say so, I won’t hold back either. My mother has already told me 0about Jack’s plans. He wants me dead, so naturally, I won’t spare him."

As he spoke, Alex finished his drink and said, "However, there are many shareholders backing him who are involved with Miller Corporation. It’s not something I can handle alone right now."

Claire furrowed her brows. She didn’t fully understand what Alex was talking about, but she grasped his intentions. If Jack wasn’t dealt with, he would always be a threat to the Miller family. She knew Alex had thought this through as well.

"What can I do to help you?" Claire asked.

Alex shook his head. "This is a war between Jack and me. I don’t need any help."

Alex’s attitude was firm, and Claire didn’t press him further. "If you need me, I’ll be there. If not, I won’t stand in your way," Claire added.

Alex was not a soft-hearted person. If Jack dared to provoke him, he would have to face his wrath. Listening to Alex’s decisive words, Claire couldn’t help but feel relieved. She breathed a sigh of relief. Now that she and Alex had successfully cooperated, as long as they stayed With a little more effort, they could reach a consensus. Thinking of this, Claire looked at Alex and said, "My approach is different from yours. I need to cure Jack’s illness."

"Can you cure his illness?" Alex’s expression changed slightly.

Claire nodded and said, "Yes, I am confident that I can."

Alex’s expression became more serious. He looked at Claire for a while and then said, "Okay."

His response surprised Claire. She looked at him, confused. However, just as she was still wondering, Alex suddenly reached out and pinched her small, round nose, teasingly saying, "Why are you looking at me like that? I’m not going to eat you."

Claire was stunned for a moment, and in the next second, her cheeks turned red. Alex’s words were too ambiguous. She could imagine the expression on his face at that moment.

"I want to save him to lure out Cole, not because I really want to help Jack," she said, lowering her head and avoiding Alex’s gaze.

Upon hearing this, Alex’s smile became even more brilliant. He lifted Claire’s chin, making her look directly into his eyes. Claire’s face turned even redder, and Alex’s smile grew deeper.

"I believe you, no need to say more," Alex said.

Claire was stunned for a moment. This man was truly arrogant and domineering. She had never met anyone like him before.

Alex was also surprised at himself for saying such words. Perhaps he felt that if he didn’t say them, it would have been bad for her.

Alex didn’t want to dwell on it, so he embraced Claire. "Do you know what kind of situation you’re in now?" he asked, burying his head in her neck and taking a deep breath of her unique scent.

"Hmm?" Claire raised her head in confusion and looked at Alex.

"You belong to me now. I, Alex, won’t allow my woman to live in fear day and night," he said, his tone tinged with disappointment.

Claire’s heart warmed slightly. She had indeed been exhausted during this period.

She had been taking care of Leander while also guarding against Jack. Now, under the influence of alcohol, she suddenly felt the warmth of Alex’s embrace. At this moment, she seemed to have found someone to rely on.

"You’ve changed a lot from before," Claire murmured softly.

Alex smiled and looked at Claire. His gaze was intense, making Claire panic for a moment. However, she quickly adjusted herself and deliberately avoided his gaze.

She whispered, "You must have had a hard time these years."

"It’s not a big deal," Alex said lightly. "Your figure has appeared in my dreams many times. Sometimes, even if it’s a nightmare, I don’t want to wake up from it."

"It’s really nice to be able to see you every day now," Alex added softly.

Hearing his words, Claire’s cheeks flushed red. She suddenly felt a strange sensation in her heart.

"Alex," Claire suddenly called out.

"What’s wrong?" Alex raised his eyebrows.

"Do you feel the same fluttering in your heart again?" Claire asked, blushing.

Alex smirked mischievously. Claire bit her lip and looked at him with a flushed face. A voice in her heart told her she couldn’t let herself be charmed by him again.

But Claire was already drunk after just one drink, and her head felt hot. Facing Alex like this, she had no more reason to resist.

She grabbed Alex’s collar and pulled him closer. Then, a kiss gently fell on his lips.
