Rebirth to take revenge
Chapter 117: Mariah’s Death

Chapter 117: Mariah’s Death

His body shook suddenly, and he unconsciously took two steps back until he hit the wall and stopped.

His eyes were filled with bloodshot veins.

"Mariah..." He murmured her name, his expression complex.

Mariah’s death was a good thing for him, but he still felt a lingering sense of guilt towards her. Jack shook his head and stopped thinking about it. He let Mariah die like that and left the Smith family.

On the other side, Alex returned to the Miller’s family villa with the antidote. Leander’s condition had been stabilized by Claire, but without the antidote, the toxin could not be completely eliminated

Alex knocked on the bedroom door and waited for Claire to turn around before walking in. Looking at Leander lying motionless on the bed, his brow furrowed slightly. He put the antidote on the table and sat down next to Claire.

"I have found the antidote; give it to Leander and make him take it quickly," Alex said.

Claire’s gaze still fell on Leander, ignoring Alex, and did not pick up the antidote to give it to Leander. She was like a puppet, just staring at Leander foolishly. Her child was lying there motionless.

Alex sighed and said, "Claire, do you want Leander to lie like this forever? If you want to protect him for a lifetime, give him the antidote; otherwise, are you going to keep wasting time like this?"

Only then did Claire take the antidote.

Just then there was a noise outside the villa Alex hurriedly went out to see what’s happening.

"is this not Mariah’s hand maid what is she doing here, who gave you the courage to come to the Miller’s family villa?" Alex’s voice was dangerous, and his eyes flickered with a dangerous light.

"Mr. Miller, please where’s the antidote? Give it to me!" Maid spoke with a strong tone, not even bothering to look at Alex.

At this, Alex’s lips curled up. "I really don’t know when you became qualified to talk to me," he said. "Get her out of here!" he ordered his bodyguards.

As the bodyguards moved to grab the Maid’s arms and drag her out, she struggled and shouted, "Mr. Miller, if anything happens to Madam, I’ll make sure you pay for it!"

"Do you think I won’t lay a hand on you?" he added, narrowing his eyes.

The maid’s face turned pale.

Alex sneered and said, " you must leave today, now!"

After speaking, Alex signaled to the bodyguards behind him. Immediately, the bodyguard held the girl.

"Take her down and lock her up with Sebastian and the others," Alex ordered coldly.

Immediately, without any hesitation, the bodyguard dragged the girl out.

"Just a moment." At this moment, Claire walked out of the bedroom.

She looked at Alex and said softly, "Let her go."

Alex frowned and tightly pursed his lips, obviously unwilling.

Upon hearing this, Alex’s eyebrows twitched slightly as he said, "Claire, you are too kind."

"Don’t you know that being merciful to your enemies is being cruel to yourself?" he continued.

Claire looked at Alex indifferently and said, "If she really poses a threat, I believe you have a way to deal with her, don’t you?"

By the end of her sentence, Claire’s tone had become quite clear. She hoped that Alex would not make things difficult for the girl.

And obviously, her words made Alex quite pleased.

Alex remained silent for a long time before slowly raising his hand.

Seeing this, the bodyguards immediately released the girl.

The girl stumbled a few steps and almost fell. After she steadied herself, she looked up at Alex and Claire with a cold gaze and said, "Claire, don’t think I will thank you for this. Quickly let him give me the antidote."

"Do you just want the antidote?" Alex looked at the bodyguards and ordered coldly, "Give it to her."

"Yes," the bodyguard agreed, then turned to leave.

Soon, he came back with a delicate little box and handed it to the girl. She took it and opened it, only to find a black pill inside.

The pill was red and had a strange smell.

"What is this?" the girl looked at Alex with suspicion.

"It’s an antidote," Alex said coldly.

With that, Claire turned and went back to her room, ignoring the girl.

Alex’s lips curled up as he looked at Claire’s back, with a hint of admiration in his eyes. The means she used were even more cruel than directly rejecting the girl. This woman was really interesting.

The girl stared blankly at Claire’s back, unable to come back to her senses for a while.

At nine o’clock in the evening, the girl named Susan returned to the Smith family.

In the end, she had to leave the antidote to Mariah. After all, that was the person who gave her a place to sleep when she has no place to go, Mariah has helped her a lot and she owes her a lot. Although she never treated her right however, she deliberately stayed outside for a while longer, just to make Mariah suffer a bit and repay her for using her.

But when Susan pushed open the door, she found Mariah had already fallen in a pool of blood. A dagger was stuck in her chest!

"Madam!" Susan widened her eyes and exclaimed in shock.

She hurried over to help Mariah up, but saw that blood was continuously flowing out of her chest, and her whole face had turned purple.

"Madam! boss!!" Susan called loudly.

However, Mariah had already lost her breath and could only lie limp in Susan’s arms as she cried in pain.

"Madam, don’t scare me! Please wake up!" Susan murmured tearfully.

Who did this? Alex, or Claire?!

No, it’s impossible. When she left the Millers’ house, it was already the afternoon. It had only been a few hours, but Mariah had obviously been dead for a long time.

She remembered that she had entrusted Mr.Miller to take care of Mariah before she left. Could it be that Mr. Miller killed Mariah?

On the other side, inside Powell’s family villa, Jack sat in the living room with a gloomy expression, holding his phone in his hand.

He stared at Claire’s number on the screen, feeling extremely annoyed. He never expected that after trying so hard to please Claire, all he got was a simple "You did well." This was a great insult to him.

Thinking of this, Jack suddenly waved his hand. The phone smashed against the wall, the screen shattered, and the battery scattered across the floor.

After venting his emotions, the phone suddenly rang in Jack’s house. Hearing the phone, Jack immediately picked it up.

"Hello?" Jack impatiently answered, his tone filled with annoyance.

"Uncle, why couldn’t I reach you on your mobile phone earlier?"

"I forgot to ask earlier, how is your illness now? When will you have time for me to take a look at it?" Claire’s voice came through the receiver, with a gentle smile.

Hearing this, Jack felt a surge of joy in his heart, and his hand holding the phone trembled slightly. He cleared his throat to cover his embarrassment and said, "Oh, it’s you, Claire. I thought you had forgotten about your uncle’s situation!"

"You are the best doctor I know, and I am always at your service," Jack said with a slight smile.

"Uncle, you should also know that I can’t go out casually now. So, it’s better for you to come to the Miller family house," Claire said.

Hearing this, Jack’s mouth, which had just lifted in a smile, sank again.

What is Claire’s intention? Knowing that he and Alex have a grudge, isn’t it obvious that she’s setting a trap by asking him to go to the Smith family house at this time?

Jack snorted coldly in his heart and said, "Claire, I’m afraid my body isn’t in good enough shape to visit the Smith family house right now."

"Let’s do this: when I feel a little better in a few days, I’ll personally visit you."

Claire’s mouth curled up slightly. "No problem, then I’ll wait for your news, Uncle."

After hanging up the phone, Jack looked out the window with a complex expression in his eyes.

The night breeze was cool. Claire stood on the balcony, her gaze distant. Her eyes seemed to pierce through the layers of clouds and settle on a faraway place. She didn’t know why she had to do this. Inviting Jack to the Miller family was a dangerous move.

A slight mistake could make Jack waver and refuse to cooperate with her. But Claire still wanted to do it. Perhaps, subconsciously, she knew Jack was also a threat, but that threat was to Alex.

Claire’s mood was complicated. She turned around and walked out of the bedroom, standing at the door and looking toward the study. How did Alex, who had lost his memory, view Jack? Should she tell him about what Jack did five years ago?
