Rebirth to take revenge
Chapter 116: Release

Chapter 116: Release

However, Claire stayed very calm. After Mariah finished speaking, she replied lightly, "My son is fine, don’t worry about it."

There was an instant silence on the phone. After a long pause, Mariah sneered and said, "Claire, who do you think you’re fooling? My medicine—I’m the one who knows it best. Your son can’t be fine!"

Claire narrowed her eyes slightly and responded coldly, "Mariah, your medicine means nothing to me. Don’t forget, I’m a doctor."

"I don’t need you to worry about my son. You’d better worry about yourself. Don’t forget, your husband and child are still in Alex’s hands!"

"You—!" Mariah was speechless and panicked.

That’s right—Alex still had them in his grasp. If she couldn’t find a way, they would die. Mariah was silent for a long time before slowly saying, "Claire, you wouldn’t be so cruel, would you? Even if you hate me, what about Sebastian? He’s your biological father!"

"Claire, do you really have the heart to watch him die? I can promise to let you and your son go, but you must make Alex release Sebastian and Anna!"

"Otherwise, I will drag you and your son to the grave with me!"

"You don’t have to provoke me. I won’t be fooled," Claire’s tone was still indifferent but full of danger. She added, "Mariah, I’ve said it many times, don’t think about harming Leander. Otherwise, I will make you regret it!"

"Claire, you’re too arrogant!" Mariah was furious. She didn’t expect Claire to be so bold. Her patience was limited, and she wouldn’t tolerate anyone talking down to her!

Unexpectedly, when Claire heard this, her tone suddenly shifted, and she said sharply, "Mariah, I don’t have time to waste talking nonsense with you!"

After finishing, Claire was about to hang up the phone. On the other end, Mariah panicked and said, "Okay, Claire, you win! I promise you—I will let Leander go. I can give you the antidote!"

Hearing this, Claire stopped her movements. She suppressed the excitement rising in her heart and maintained a calm silence. This made Mariah even more anxious, as she added, "I’ll give you the antidote and release Sebastian and Anna!"

Claire took a deep breath and asked coldly, "Why should I trust you?"

On the other end of the phone, Mariah’s tone suddenly became gloomy. "Claire, don’t push your luck."

Claire pursed her lips and responded, "Mariah, you haven’t forgotten what you did to my son just now, right? Do you think Alex will let you go?"

Claire was extremely anxious, but her reason still overcame her impulse.

"I can’t agree to your conditions, and I don’t need your antidote."

"Claire, I beg you!" Mariah’s voice suddenly became low and hoarse, as if she was deliberately suppressing something.

"I’ll send the antidote, and your son will definitely get better after taking it. If something goes wrong, you can have Alex kill me on the spot!"

As soon as Mariah said these words, Claire was completely shocked. Mariah—what a lunatic! She dared to bet on Leander’s life. What else was she not afraid to do?

Claire took a deep breath, suppressed the churning emotions in her heart, and tried to make her tone sound calm.

"Mariah, you are such a crazy woman!" She couldn’t help but sigh with emotion.

After Claire finished speaking, she ignored Mariah and hung up the phone.

Mariah looked at the black screen of the mobile phone, feeling inexplicably irritable. At that moment, there was a knock at the door. Mariah frowned, stepped forward, and opened it.

Two strange men stood outside the door, and they pushed her down on the sofa without saying a word. Immediately afterward, one of them took out a white pill from his pocket and tried to force it into her mouth.

Mariah wanted to struggle and resist, but the two men were too strong, and she couldn’t shake them off. She closed her eyes involuntarily and swallowed the pill.

Seeing this, the men released their grip and stepped aside. Mariah rubbed her sore wrist, stood up, and faltered, "Who are you?"

At this moment, Alex walked in with a playful smile on his face and said, "Mrs. Smith, don’t act so surprised!"

Mariah’s eyes widened in disbelief. "You... what did you make me swallow?"

"I gave you what you made my son take," Alex said as he waved to one of the men beside him. Soon, the man came back and placed a bottle of medicinal powder on the table.

Mariah gasped involuntarily and scratched at her throat in panic, trying to spit out the contents. But it was useless. A moment later, her whole body went limp like a puddle of mud, and she collapsed onto the sofa.

Suddenly realizing something, she got up quickly, stumbled, and ran to the bedroom. Alex motioned to the men, who followed her closely.

Mariah searched frantically for the antidote, but just as she found it, one of the men snatched it away. She raised her head in disbelief.

Alex looked at her with a mocking smile and said, "Mrs. Smith, what are you doing?"

"Give it back to me!" Mariah stretched her arms out, trying to reach for the bottle.

Alex took a few steps back leisurely. "Mariah, this is what you deserve. I gave you a chance to restrain yourself, but you didn’t take it."

He turned away indifferently and said in a cold voice, "For the rest of the time, you should experience the pain your own medicine brings you. Oh, by the way, it seems no one in this house can save you."

After saying this, Alex strode out of the room.

Staring at the now empty room, Mariah’s complexion turned pale as paper. Her whole body trembled, and her legs buckled as she knelt to the ground uncontrollably.

"No, it’s impossible..."

"She didn’t believe it, she didn’t believe she would lose. Claire, I won’t let you have your way!" Mariah gritted her teeth and took step by step towards the outside, wanting to escape and call for help. Just then, she caught sight of a figure at the door and her eyes lit up. "Hey you! Quickly save me!"

When the house help heard the cry, she rushed in and was startled by the sight of Mariah’s tear-streaked face. She hurried over, helped Mariah up, and asked, "Ma’am, what’s wrong with you?"

Mariah grabbed the house help’s hand and cried out, "quickly save me, the antidote has been taken by Alex!"

The house help nodded with a pale face. "Ma’am, don’t worry, I’ll help you find it." She said, and immediately ran out.

Watching the house help’s disappearing figure, Mariah finally breathed a sigh of relief. Her body went limp and she fell to the ground. Now, the house help has become her last straw, and she absolutely cannot allow any mistakes.

The house help searched around but didn’t see Alex’s figure, and couldn’t help but wonder. Could he really have taken the antidote?

Just as the she was lost in thought, a car stopped beside her. Jack got out of the car and asked, "What’s wrong?"

"She’s upstairs." The house help pointed to the second floor and answered. "Sir, it’s great that you’re here. My madam is sick. Please help me take care of her for a while. I’ll go get her medicine," the house help pleaded with Jack.

Mr. Miller nodded and headed upstairs. Soon, he arrived at Mariah’s bedroom. As he pushed the door open, he stood frozen in place, looking dazed.

Mariah’s face was pale, her lips were purple, and she looked like she was on the brink of death. Mr. Miller looked at her with a puzzled expression, silently pondering.

He didn’t expect someone to have beaten him to it. It seemed that Mariah had offended quite a few people.

Jack’s eyes turned cold, and a fierce glint flashed across them. Claire was right. Mariah couldn’t be allowed to live!

Mariah heard the commotion and slowly opened her eyes. When she saw Jack, she quickly propped herself up and asked, "Why are you here?"

Jack snapped out of his thoughts and gave a sinister smile. "I’m here to take your life." With that, he raised the dagger in his hand and aimed it at Mariah’s chest.

"Bang!" The sound of the dagger piercing the flesh echoed through the room, and tears streamed down Mariah’s face.

This one blow made her experience the fear of death. She looked at Jack with intense hatred and despair in her eyes.

Jack pulled the dagger out of her chest and looked down at her with a sneer. "Mariah, this is what you deserve!"

"Hahaha..." Suddenly, Mariah burst into a crazy laughter.

Jack looked at her in confusion, not knowing what to do. He couldn’t understand where this woman got her courage from?!

After laughing enough, Mariah looked up at Jack and said, "Jack, I never thought that you would be the one to kill me in the end!"

As she spoke, Mariah’s eyes gradually became fierce.

"Do you think you can escape, Jack? I’ll be waiting for you down there!"

With those words, Mariah fell to the ground, lifeless.0.

Jack stared at the scene in front of him, and Mariah’s last words kept repeating in his mind.
