Chapter 115: Leander is Poisoned
Chapter 115: Leander is Poisoned
Jack narrowed his eyes and sneered inwardly. Claire, you really don’t shed tears until you see the coffin! However, he wanted to see how tough she could be!
After hanging up the phone, Claire’s expression instantly turned sinister. She turned and walked outside but was stopped by a sudden voice.
"Claire, where are you going?"
Claire paused, swept her eyes over, and sneered. "Alex, are you following me?"
Alex awkwardly touched his nose, coughed lightly, and said, "No, no."
Claire rolled her eyes disdainfully, not bothering to deal with Alex, and walked straight out.
Alex hurriedly ran up to stop her, his eyes cold as he said, "Where else do you want to go? Come home with me!"
"Go home?" Claire sneered mockingly. "Alex, do you think that because the Miller family is my family, I must go back? You don’t have that qualification yet!"
Alex was speechless, his face turning pale.
"Claire, I’ve said it before, let me handle this matter. Don’t be willful; it’s dangerous."
"Alex, I don’t want to stay in this house for another moment!" Claire said angrily, her eyes turning red.
A look of pain flashed across Alex’s face, but he suppressed the bitterness in his heart and said in a cold tone, "Then where do you want to go?"
Claire lifted her head, her beautiful eyes filled with resentment. "That’s none of your business," she said, then walked away.
Alex watched Claire’s back as she left, his eyes filled with sadness and pain. She had changed so much, and it only made him feel more heartbroken.
With a sigh, Alex followed silently behind Claire. When they left, Claire realized that it was already late in the evening. She had been outside for so long without realizing it.
Looking at the dark surroundings, Claire felt a surge of fear in her heart. She instinctively hugged herself and trembled.
Claire still went home with Alex. Sitting in the passenger seat, Claire remained silent, until they got out of the car and found a crowd of people gathered at the entrance of the Miller family’s house.
she panicked and asked, "What happened?"
At this time, the outside of the Miller’s villa was surrounded by black-clad bodyguards.
Alex got out of the car and walked up to the head of the bodyguards, asking coldly, "What’s going on?"
"Mr. Miller, Young Master is sick," the bodyguard replied.
As soon as the bodyguard finished speaking, Alex’s face changed, and he immediately ran inside. Claire became anxious and followed him.
The two entered the courtyard and saw the housekeeper and several servants waiting anxiously in the hall.
Seeing Alex return, the housekeeper greeted him, "Sir, you finally came back!"
"How is Leander now?" Alex asked anxiously.
The housekeeper shook his head and said, "Not good..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Claire pushed him aside and rushed into the bedroom.
"Leander!"
At this moment, Leander’s face was pale, his lips were purple, and he lay motionless on the bed. Claire was frightened and hurriedly hugged Leander’s cold body, crying loudly. Alex looked at his child, his eyes turning red with heartache. Claire frantically checked Leander’s pulse and found that he was showing symptoms of poisoning.
The smell was exactly the same as the poison Mariah had used to poison her mother!
Yes, the same bottle of poison that Anna had brought!
Claire’s beautiful eyes narrowed as she immediately opened the drawer of the bedside table and took out the white porcelain bottle.
There were no signs of the bottle being opened, but Leander was so weak that even the scent from the bottle could poison him.
Claire regretted it at this moment and wanted to throw away the porcelain bottle in her hand.
However, this was the most important piece of evidence, and she couldn’t simply dispose of it!
For a moment, she couldn’t help but admire Mariah’s scheming. She was even willing to sacrifice her own daughter to implicate Leander!
Claire put the porcelain bottle into a sealed box before returning to the bed to check on Leander’s condition.
Although the symptoms of poisoning were evident, fortunately, it had been discovered in time and hadn’t reached the point where it couldn’t be treated.
She took a deep breath and instructed the servant beside her, "Bring me a set of silver needles."
"Yes, madam."
The butler quickly left and returned with a delicate wooden box. He opened it, revealing a set of tools inside.
Claire skillfully took out a silver needle and pricked several acupoints on Leander’s body.
After everything was done, more than half an hour had passed.
Claire breathed a sigh of relief, wiped the sweat off her forehead, and gently laid Leander down on the bed.
After half an hour of unconsciousness, Leander finally woke up. Opening his eyes, he saw Anna and immediately cried out in grievance, "Mom, I’m is okay..."
Claire quickly held his little hand to comfort him, whispering, "Be good, Leander, don’t be afraid. Mommy is here. Just endure a little longer, it will be okay soon."
However, Leander cried and said, "But... but Leander feels so uncomfortable..."
Anna felt both heartbroken and guilty, holding him tightly and softly coaxing, "It’s okay, Mommy is here. Leander is good. Don’t be afraid."
After sobbing for a while, Leander finally quieted down and stopped crying.
Claire looked over and saw Alex sitting on the sofa, looking exhausted. His face was very pale, and his eyes were bloodshot. He looked disheveled.
"Alex, I’m sorry, I..."
"It’s not your fault." Alex raised his hand and sighed, "It’s my negligence. I didn’t expect that woman to lay a hand on my baby. Anna, I didn’t think this through."
"However, I will investigate and find the truth. You don’t have to worry," Alex said. "I will find evidence against her."
Claire nodded and said, "Yes, I believe you."
"Then... how can we solve Leander’s poisoning?" Alex asked.
Claire pondered for a moment and said, "Let him take medicine for a while. This should alleviate the toxicity."
"I’m not sure if this medicine has an antidote since its source is unknown."
Upon hearing this, Alex’s eyes darkened, and he asked, "Did Mariah give it to you?"
Claire nodded and said, "Yes, but we can’t act against her yet."
Suddenly, Claire thought of something "Oh no I sent Jack to deal with Mariah. She wouldn’t be dead, would she?"
Alex was taken aback, and his eyes immediately showed a hint of doubt. "Jack?" he asked.
Claire knew that Alex didn’t understand the situation with Jack after losing his memory, so she said, "I’ll explain it to you when we have time, but right now, you must trust me unconditionally."
"Alex, I know you."
"But I, Claire, promise you that I won’t do anything to harm you."
"Not only because you’re my husband, but also because you’re Leander’s father!"
"So, no matter what you were like before, from now on, you must trust me!"
Looking at Claire’s strong appearance, Alex’s eyes widened, and his heart raced.
He felt that Claire seemed to have changed.
She had become more resilient and domineering. This feeling... was really good.
"I trust you," Alex nodded.
Claire finally smiled and said, "Okay, you’re tired too. Go rest. I’ll take care of things here."
"Okay."
Just as Alex agreed, Claire’s phone rang.
Seeing that it was an unfamiliar number, Claire hesitated, and a sense of foreboding rose in her heart.
She took a deep breath and answered the phone.
"Claire, if I’m not mistaken, you must be very anxious right now!" came Mariah’s triumphant voice over the phone.
Claire clenched her fists and spoke in a cold voice, "Mariah, I will slowly settle the score with you!"
"Hehe, are you sure you can escape my control?" Mariah laughed. "Don’t forget, your son’s life is still in my hands!"
Upon hearing this, Claire’s face changed drastically, and a sense of despair rose in her eyes as she asked, "What do you want?"
"What do I want?" Mariah sneered. "I can do such things because of you, Claire!"
"The incident five years ago spared your life, but you should have been grateful for it."
"But you, an ungrateful person, dared to come back to City A!"
"Since you appeared, everything has changed!"
Mariah roared hysterically, "I tell you, Claire, even if my Smith family is destroyed one day, I will drag you down with me! Today it’s your son, and the next one will be you! I will send your whole family to hell!"
"Hahaha, Claire, we’ll see if your son can survive until tomorrow!"
With that, Mariah hung up the phone with a snap.
The busy tone on the other end of the phone made Claire completely panic.
This woman really dared to harm her son!
She didn’t know what method Mariah would use to deal with Leander, and she didn’t know whether Mariah’s goal was Leander, so she had to remain calm. She knew that Mariah must have more than just this threat. She couldn’t afford to lose her composure; otherwise, it would only make Leander’s situation worse.
Thinking of this, Claire sat beside Leander’s bed, guarding him quietly. It wasn’t until Leander fell asleep that she slowly left the bedroom.
