Rebirth to take revenge -
Chapter 111: Not good enough
Chapter 111: Not good enough
After Mariah left the room she slipped the white jade bottle into her pocket and left for the Miller’s Villa.
Meanwhile, at the Miller family villa.
In the bedroom, Claire stood at the door, watching the tall man in front of her with a wary gaze.
"You can’t sleep here," Claire said coldly.
Alex raised his eyebrows and replied, "This is my bedroom."
"Not anymore," Claire said firmly, staring straight at him. "Leander and I will sleep here. You can go to the guest room."
Her firm attitude made Alex laugh. "Claire, this is my home."
As soon as he finished speaking, Claire picked up her luggage and said softly, "Then I’ll leave. Leander, come with me."
Seeing this, Alex quickly grabbed her and said, "Okay, okay, I’ll sleep in the guest room!"
"We’re an old married couple, why are you still so shy?" Alex shook his head helplessly. He leaned against the door frame, blocking Claire’s way.
Looking past her at Leander, he said, "Leander, do you want to sleep with Daddy?"
Leander’s eyes lit up.
But when he saw the gloomy look in Claire’s eyes, he quickly changed his mind and said, "No, I won’t be able to sleep without Mommy!"
"Oh? But Daddy’s room has the most advanced computer..." Alex’s words were cut off as Leander hugged his thigh and said, "I’ll sleep with Daddy!"
Claire sneered.
This little brat was actually siding with Alex!
It seemed that he had grown bold and was no longer obedient to her as his mother!
This is simply outrageous!
The next day, at the Miller residence, the old butler looked at the woman at the door with a gloomy expression and said coldly, "Miss Anna, please leave. The Young Master will not see you."
Anna hesitated as she looked at the unfriendly old butler and asked, "I want to know if Claire is here?"
Upon hearing this, the old butler’s expression changed. He hadn’t expected the news of the Smith family to spread so quickly. Had they already found out that the Young Master had brought Claire back home in just one night?
It seemed the Smith family had been secretly cultivating their own power in recent years, to the point where even the Young Master dared to deal with them.
The old butler’s eyes became more cautious as he looked at Anna, who was full of vigilance.
"Miss Anna, I don’t understand what you’re talking about. Claire has been missing for several years. How could she be at the Miller residence? You’d better leave."
Anna’s face twitched awkwardly. In truth, she had come here on a gamble, with only a few vague words from Mariah. She had no real information at all. But for some reason, Anna felt resistant to the idea of using the poison bottle.
Although she didn’t know what her next step should be, she had a strong desire in her heart—to see Claire.
Besides the Miller residence, Anna had no idea where else Claire might be.
Looking at the old butler’s guarded expression, Anna sighed and said, "Alright. If you happen to see Claire, please tell her I want to see her. It’s something very important."
After speaking, Anna walked away without looking back.
Watching Anna’s departing figure, the old butler frowned slightly and turned back toward the living room. As soon as he entered, he saw Alex sitting on the sofa with a cold expression.
The old butler quickly said, "Young Master."
"What was she here for?" Alex asked indifferently.
"She said she wanted to see Madam," the old butler replied, bowing his head.
"See Claire? What trick is the Smith family trying to pull now?" Alex’s voice was sharp.
The old butler stiffened, quickly replying, "I’ve already sent her away."
Alex nodded slightly, then stood up, saying, "Take care of Madam and the Little Young Master, and remember not to let them leave the Miller family. I’ll go to the Smith family and see what they’re up to."
As the tall figure of Alex walked away, the old butler’s expression grew complicated. He knew Alex was serious this time.
Meanwhile, at the Smith family residence, Alex was sitting on the living room sofa, his face unreadable. Knowing of his arrival, Anna had dressed up, quickly walking over to him and sitting closely by his side. She smiled and said, "Brother Alex, you’re here! Why didn’t you tell me in advance? Did you want to surprise me?"
Alex’s thin lips curved slightly, and his eyes seemed to drift momentarily toward Mariah. In a soft tone, he responded, "Not so much a surprise, as long as it’s not a shock."
Mariah’s face paled, her figure trembling slightly, and she dared not say a word. But Anna didn’t pick up on the deeper meaning in Alex’s words. Her eyes brightened, her heart raced, and her cheeks flushed with excitement. She said shyly, "I’m so happy to see you, Brother Alex. Why would I be afraid?"
She stood up eagerly. "Sit down, Brother Alex. I’ll get you something to drink."
Alex glanced at her briefly and said softly, "No need for a drink. Is there any candy?"
Anna nodded quickly, preparing to leave when Alex’s cold voice cut through the air. "I’m not joking," he said. "Just the piece you gave Leander yesterday"
Mariah’s figure shook violently.
Is this... a threat to her?
"Mr. Miller, you..."
Alex raised his hand to interrupt her, a smile on his face, though it didn’t reach his eyes.
Alex smiled slightly and said, "Anna, there’s no need to pretend anymore. Now that your mother has slipped up, it’s time for you to control yourself."
Hearing this, Anna’s body trembled violently. Disgust flashed across Alex’s face as he observed her.
"Alex, don’t go too far," Anna glared at him angrily, her voice shaking. "I know you don’t like me, but you can’t accuse us like this!"
"Huh... accuse?" Alex sneered. "Why don’t you ask your dear mother? Isn’t that the truth?"
Anna choked and became speechless she somehow knows that whatever Alex is saying is true.
Alex stood up, casting her a cold glance. "Anna, if my guess is right, you should know that I’m married. Who gave you the audacity to approach me like this? Are you still trying to marry into the Miller family?"
He paused before adding coldly, "Don’t take me for a fool. If you have any sense, you’ll disappear from my sight immediately, or don’t blame me for being ruthless!"
"You..." Anna’s face turned red, her eyes brimming with resentment as she looked at Alex. But she knew his temperament too well. If she continued to push, he would undoubtedly throw her out. She didn’t have the courage.
Anna gritted her teeth and stared at him, but Alex didn’t bother to look her way.
Turning his attention to Mariah, he said lightly, "Madam Smith, don’t blame me for not warning you—your daughter has done worse than this."
"Alex, what nonsense are you talking about?" Mariah glared at him, though her heart sank. Could it be that he’s regained his memory?
Alex glanced at Anna and said coldly, "To prevent you from making more wrong decisions, I’ll be taking your daughter with me for the time being."
"Alex, what do you mean? You want to imprison my daughter?" Mariah’s voice rose in disbelief.
"Why are you doing this? I can sue you! Even if you’re a policeman, you have no right to detain my daughter!" Mariah cried out. She knew this was Alex’s way of exacting revenge.
"Really? You can call and report me to the police right now. However, if you do, you’ll have to deal with the consequences."
His tone remained gentle, as though nothing had happened. His gaze swept over Mariah, who suddenly felt as though her entire body had plunged into an ice-cold abyss, a chill running from the soles of her feet to the top of her head.
Anna’s pupils contracted, and she gripped Mariah’s arm anxiously, her voice trembling, "Mom, please, help me..."
"Alex..." Anna bit her lip, looking at him pleadingly.
"You’re going to hurt my mother if you go through with this."
Hearing this, Alex sneered, his eyes darkening.
"Hurt? Why didn’t she consider the consequences when she planned to hurt others?" he replied indifferently.
"If I don’t take measures, she’ll walk all over me. Isn’t that right, Mrs. Smith?"
However, Mariah felt a slight sense of relief. It seemed that Alex hadn’t figured everything out, merely issuing a warning.
To his behavior yesterday, everything had a chance!
Thinking of this, Mariah smiled, as if she realized her mistake, and said, "Mr. Miller has been worrying too much, and I have always been confused. After all, you are too outstanding, and everything I do is for Anna’s good. This child has liked you since she was young, and I just wanted to fulfill her wish."
"Oh? Really?" Alex raised his eyebrows, his eyes cold as he said, "Then let me tell you now, even without Claire. No, even if Anna begged me on her knees, I wouldn’t marry her. She’s simply not good enough for me."
