Chapter 110: Wild seed
Chapter 110: Wild seed
The car stopped at the gate of the Powell mansion, and Nelson walked straight in.
When the Powell family butler saw him, he hurried forward to greet him. The butler was a middle-aged man, about fifty years old, with a calm demeanor.
"Master Nelson, are you here?"
Nelson nodded slightly and said, "Where’s my grandfather?"
The butler replied respectfully, "Master knows you’d come and is already waiting in the study. Please, this way."
In the study, old master Powell sat cross-legged on the mat, holding a teapot.
"It’s you, Nelson. Come and sit down," old master Powell said.
Nelson quickly walked over and sat down angrily opposite his grandfather. "Grandpa, I told you when I first returned from abroad—don’t meddle in my affairs! Why did you do this today?"
Nelson’s voice was loud, causing old master Powell to frown. "Nelson, mind your behavior."
Hearing this, Nelson felt even more irritable. "Grandpa!"
Old master Powell interrupted, "Now, you are the head of the family, and you must maintain your composure at all times. If Alex had lost his memory, I wouldn’t interfere in your matters with Claire. But now, Alex remembers everything, and his feelings for her are just as strong."
"So, Nelson, it’s time for you to stop."
Nelson said coldly, "So what if he remembers? Claire doesn’t care about what happened back then!"
Old master Powell shook his head and said, "But do you think Claire truly "Can Claire really forget that relationship?"
"It’s no use if you don’t believe her," old master Powell said. "The relationship between her and Alex is deeply ingrained. It’s not easy to let go of something like that."
"What’s more, they already have children."
"Your current status is not suitable for getting involved with them anymore."
Old master Powell spoke in a calm tone, but every sentence was like a knife stabbing Nelson in the chest, causing immense pain. Nelson clenched his fists tightly, his nails digging into his palms until traces of blood oozed out.
After a long moment, Nelson raised his head, looked at his grandfather coldly, and said, "Grandpa, I will handle this matter myself!"
With that, he got up to leave, but several tall bodyguards dressed in black appeared in front of him, blocking his way.
"Grandpa, what is the meaning of this?" Nelson turned around, eyes wide with astonishment, and said angrily.
Old master Powell didn’t raise his head and said lightly, "Nelson, grandpa understands Alex’s methods all too well. If you confront him head-on, you won’t gain anything. Besides, there’s a potential crisis ahead, and it’s best not to stir up trouble."
"Grandpa!" Nelson approached old master Powell, about to speak, but two bodyguards seized him from behind.
"Nelson, you should stay at Grandpa’s house for the next few days. When the dust settles, I will personally send you back to the city."
"Are you putting me under house arrest?" Nelson laughed angrily, incredulous.
"Grandpa is doing this for your own good," old master Powell replied. "Take the young master away."
At the same time, Alex was driving the car, taking Claire and Leander back to the Miller house. After three years of separation, Alex felt a deep excitement about their reunion, though his face remained expressionless.
Focused on driving, Alex would occasionally glance at Claire, who sat beside him, looking tired and distracted.
"What are you thinking about?" he asked, coughing lightly to get her attention.
Claire tilted her head slightly, glanced at him, and replied, "Nothing, just a little tired."
Alex pondered for a while, then, pretending to be casual, asked, "Are you Mariah’s child? Why didn’t you get along with her?"
When Claire heard him mention Mariah, her beautiful eyes darkened. She said coldly, "She’s not my mother. My mother was killed by her."
"What?!" Alex was shocked. "What happened?"
As Claire spoke, Alex suddenly recalled the candy that Leander had thrown on the ground earlier. His expression changed, and he asked in a cold voice, "Was there something wrong with that candy?"
Claire raised her eyebrows slightly in surprise and said, "So what?"
Alex gripped the steering wheel tightly, his face clouded with anger. "The Smith family has some nerve. They even dared to harm my son."
Claire chuckled lightly, her beautiful eyes concealing turbulent emotions. "Alex, just focus on dealing with Cole. As for Mariah, I’ll handle her personally."
At the Smith’s Family Villa
Sebastian sat in his study, smoking a cigarette. Though in his forties, he took good care of himself and looked more like a man in his thirties. At that moment, there was a loud, urgent knock on the door.
Frowning with irritation, Sebastian called out, "Who is it? I’m busy. Don’t disturb me!"
"Sebastian, open the door now!" Mariah’s angry voice could be heard from outside.
Hearing her voice, Sebastian’s face darkened...
Sebastian immediately stood up and grinned as he walked over to open the door.
"Oh, it’s my dear wife. Come in quickly."
"How did it go today? Did you succeed?" Sebastian asked expectantly.
"Succeed in what? That little brat Claire is very cunning! Even her child is not to be underestimated!" Mariah sat angrily on the office chair and drank all the tea on the table.
"My dear wife, don’t be angry. Let’s talk slowly. I’ve arranged for someone to monitor them all the time. We have plenty of opportunities—this is just one of them!" Sebastian poured Mariah a glass of water and smiled ingratiatingly.
However, upon hearing this, Mariah stood up abruptly. "What did you say? You sent someone to monitor them? Are you stupid?" she glared at Sebastian, saying, "I already said I would handle this matter. Why are you investigating on your own? Won’t we, the Smith family, be in trouble?"
Sebastian’s face turned pale at the thought. Mariah paced back and forth, saying helplessly, "Besides, Claire is very clever. If she sees me coming to find her this time, will she just sit and wait for me? She definitely won’t continue to stay in that place!"
"But..." Sebastian wanted to say more but was fiercely glared at by Mariah and could only remain silent. He knew her concerns were not unfounded.
Now, the Smith family and Claire had completely fallen out. If Claire fled, Sebastian would never be able to catch up with her. If Alex found out about the Smith family’s actions again, then the Smith family would suffer a catastrophic disaster. Therefore, Sebastian decided to temporarily suppress his anger.
"So, what’s your plan, my dear wife?"
"Don’t interfere in this matter. I have my own plan," Mariah snorted.
Sebastian was unwilling, but he didn’t dare say anything more.
"Go and bring Anna to me," Mariah ordered.
Soon, Anna hurriedly arrived at the study.
"Mom, you called for me!" Anna said, walking into the room, not noticing the anger simmering in Mariah’s heart.
"Smack!" A heavy slap hit her face, causing half of Anna’s face to instantly turn red and swollen.
Anna covered her painful cheek, looking at Mariah in disbelief.
"What kind of situation is our family in, and you’re still here acting like nothing’s wrong?" Mariah trembled with anger.
"The Miller family..." Anna weakly spoke.
Mariah’s eyes widened, and she slapped Anna again. "The Miller family! Do you even know what’s going on with them? They’re about to become our enemies! Anna, do you even know what your surname is? If something happens to our family, can you run away?" What wrong with you and Alex’s relationship, are you going to sit there and do nothing? Mariah pointed at Anna’s nose, scolding her, her eyes turning red.
"Anna, you really disappoint me."
Anna cried out in grievance, "I haven’t done anything these days! Just tell me what you want me to do!"
Hearing this, Mariah’s face softened slightly. She leaned back in her chair, crossed her arms, and said, "Alright, with you saying that, I feel a little better." Mariah opened a drawer and took out a white porcelain bottle, handing it over and saying, "The contents of this bottle can take the life of that wild seed. You take it."
Anna’s eyes widened in disbelief. "Mom, are you asking me to poison someone?"
"If you don’t go, do you expect me to go?" Mariah’s eyes narrowed, and her tone became more forceful. "I’ve already been there once today, and they’re already suspicious of me. Plus, Alex was there today, and he saw me. I can’t show my face there anymore."
"But remember, no matter what, you are the daughter of the Smith family," Mariah continued. "When the Smith family is in trouble, you have to step up. Otherwise, the Smith family will be our grave!" Mariah finished speaking and gave Anna a cold glance before getting up to leave the study.
Suddenly, Mariah paused and turned back to add, "By the way, don’t tell your sister about today’s events. If she asks, just tell her to get along well with Alex. Do you understand?"
Mariah’s threatening tone made Anna feel bitter. She nodded and said, "I understand."
