Rebirth to take revenge
Chapter 105: Hacker X

Chapter 105: Hacker X

Emma hesitated, then whispered, "You had a car accident and suffered a brain injury, which caused you to forget. And... it was my fault too. I had all the information about Claire erased. I didn’t want you to suffer anymore."

Alex fell into a heavy silence. He didn’t ask any more questions. Since his mother had erased the truth, he wouldn’t push any further. With a calm expression, he went to bed, though his mind was far from at ease.

Claire—that name was already imprinted deep in his soul. Even without his memory, even without recalling who she was, he still knew her. Alex raised his left hand and glanced at his wristwatch. His reflection stared back at him—dark, fierce, like a venomous snake poised to strike.

"Heh."

After a long time, he chuckled softly. "Claire..."

The next morning, Claire woke up from a restless sleep, looking exhausted. All night, she had been trapped in a nightmare. In the dream, a black crow snatched Leander away from her, and she was locked in a wooden house in the eastern suburbs, devoid of daylight.

This overwhelming sense of terror tormented her, making her uncomfortable. Worse, she feared that she might also face such misfortune.

"Huff..."

Claire gasped for breath, her forehead drenched in sweat, and her clothes clinging to her soaked skin.

At that moment, there was a knock on the door, and the old butler’s respectful voice sounded:

"Miss Smith, it’s almost time for you to go to work. Would you like me to request a day off for you today?"

Hearing this, Claire’s eyes widened. She quickly grabbed her phone—only five minutes left until she had to clock in. If she left now, she would definitely be late.

Rubbing her aching forehead, she responded, "No need, I’ll inform them myself."

"Yes, Miss," the butler acknowledged, and then silence returned outside the door.

Claire pulled out her phone and searched for the contact details of the pharmacy department head. She dialed the number, and it was answered swiftly.

"Claire? Why haven’t you arrived yet?"

The head of the department shouted,

"I’m telling you, there’s a big event at the Western Medical Clinic today, and no one can be absent. I don’t care what you’ve got going on; you need to be in front of me right now!"

Upon hearing this, Claire swallowed the words she had been about to say.

"Okay, I’ll come over right away, but I might be a little late," she replied somewhat awkwardly.

"It’s fine, just hurry up and get here," the head of the pharmacy department responded before abruptly hanging up.

Then, with a pale face, the department head looked at the tall man standing in front of him and smiled awkwardly.

"Mr. Miller, you heard that... she’ll come today, just a little late."

Alex nodded, his cold gaze softening slightly as he said in a low voice,

"Hmm."

Then, he turned and walked out of the pharmacy department. Watching him leave, the head of the department let out a sigh of relief. Reflecting on his earlier attitude toward Alex, a wave of fear coursed through him.

From the way things looked, this Claire was not someone to be trifled with. It seemed that he would have to be cautious when dealing with her in the future.

Meanwhile, Claire hurriedly finished tidying up and got ready to head out. She planned to take a taxi to the Western Medical Clinic. Before leaving, she repeatedly reminded Leander to stay at home.

Leander, seeing Claire’s anxious expression, nodded obediently,

"Don’t worry, Mom, I won’t go anywhere."

With that reassurance, Claire finally left, feeling more at ease. However, as soon as she was gone, Leander pulled out his phone from his pocket. Staring at the message on it, he nervously bit his finger.

"What should I do? I already promised Mom... but this is Dad’s invitation..."

Leander’s eyes filled with longing as he looked at Alex’s message. But remembering Claire’s stern warning, he gritted his teeth and replied,

"Sorry, Dad, Mom doesn’t want me going out these days. Maybe next time."

Alex replied quickly with an encouraging smile. Seeing that, Leander felt warmth blossom in his heart and responded,

"Okay, okay."

At the Western Medical Clinic, as soon as Claire got out of the car, her eyes caught sight of a striking figure standing at the entrance. The man leaned casually against a red sports car, a cigarette in his hand, exhaling smoke with a languid, decadent air about him.

Noticing Claire, he snuffed out the cigarette, straightened up, and walked toward her with long, confident strides, greeting her as he approached. "You’re late."

Alex looked at her with a tone that was neither cold nor warm. Claire was caught off guard and quickly took a deep breath, saying, "I’m sorry, Mr. Miller."

"You woke up late today."

After not being late for several times, being late once was actually caught by him. What kind of bad luck was this?

Claire felt helpless in her heart, but thinking of the urgent tone of her supervisor, she still said politely, "Mr. Miller, I am willing to accept punishment. My supervisor has urgent matters to discuss with me, so I’ll report first."

After saying this, Claire turned around and was about to leave. However, her arm was grabbed by Alex.

"Mr. Miller?"

Claire stopped in her tracks, looking at him with some trepidation.

Alex’s eyes were deep, and the corners of his mouth curled up, saying meaningfully, "So you’re willing to accept punishment? In that case, get in the car."

Claire subconsciously refused, "I’m sorry, Mr. Miller, I really have urgent matters to attend to. My supervisor has already said that she wants me to find her as soon as I arrive at the clinic."

"If she has any objections, she can just get lost." Alex said coldly.

Hearing this, Claire’s back stiffened, and she helplessly tugged at the corners of her mouth. After all these years, he really hadn’t changed a bit.

Claire knew that if she didn’t follow him, Alex might actually take out his anger on her supervisor as he said. Helplessly, Claire nodded.

"Follow me," Alex said, walking towards the red sports car parked on the side of the road.

Watching the man’s tall figure, Claire felt like she was dreaming. After Alex got into the driver’s seat and opened the car door, he glanced at the woman beside him.

"Get in the car."

Claire snapped out of her daze and bent over to get into the passenger seat. The car started suddenly.

"Mr. Miller..." Claire was about to ask a question, but the car suddenly accelerated. She was startled and quickly fastened her seatbelt. After glancing at Alex, who was focused on driving, Claire ultimately said nothing.

Sitting in her familiar position, Claire’s thoughts flooded her mind. Every night, Alex used to pick her up from work in this car. Now, so many years had passed, but the passenger seat was still there.

Claire looked at it and subconsciously reached out to touch it. This action made Alex’s eyes widen for a moment. However, he just watched and said nothing.

After a moment, the car stopped at the entrance of a coffee shop. Alex got out of the car and walked inside. Claire followed suit.

"Mr. Miller." The receptionist smiled as she greeted Alex.

"We’ve reserved the private room you often go to. Please follow me."

"No need," Alex interrupted. Then he walked to the spot where he had met Leander that day and sat down.

He looked at Claire, who had just walked into the café, and said lightly, "Come and sit down."

Claire walked over and sat down, looking at Alex with a puzzled expression. "Mr. Miller, the punishment you mentioned, is it just drinking coffee with you?"

Alex raised his eyebrows and said in a seductive tone, "What else could it be? Do you have any other expectations? I can fulfill them for you."

Upon hearing this, Claire blushed and quickly lowered her head.

"What would you like to drink?" Alex asked lightly.

"Just plain water," Claire replied softly.

Alex nodded and looked at the waiter next to him. "Two glasses of plain water."

After the waiter left, only Claire and Alex remained in the café during working hours. The two sat facing each other, neither of them speaking.

The atmosphere became extremely awkward.

Alex cleared his throat and looked at Claire. "The first time I met X was here."

Claire’s expression remained unchanged, her eyes flickering with confusion as she said, "Oh."

Seeing this, Alex frowned and asked, "You don’t know who X is?"

Upon hearing this, Claire became even more puzzled, not understanding why Alex was telling her this.

"How is this possible? Mr. Miller, you must be joking. My son is... He’s only five years old. He can’t even use a computer, let alone be the X you mentioned."

Claire’s face turned pale, and her hand holding the note trembled slightly.

As if realizing something, Claire suddenly looked up and stared at Alex, saying, "Wait a minute, are you suspecting my son of being X? Have you seen him? All of you?"

Leander was always in the villa, with someone watching over him. How could he have had the chance to meet Alex?
