Rebirth to take revenge -
Chapter 104: Regained Memories
Chapter 104: Regained Memories
Anna carefully observed Alex’s expression and breathed a sigh of relief when she realized he hadn’t noticed anything. She lowered her head, and her eyes suddenly became fierce.
Damn, Claire. She had actually gotten pregnant with Alex’s child before disappearing. The child’s appearance was almost identical to Alex. If the media found out and reported it, it would cause a huge scandal. And the fact that Alex had married someone else would be impossible to hide. By then, her plan to marry him would be completely ruined!
This child must not survive! Anna clenched the cutlery in her hand as the image of Cole suddenly appeared in her mind. Thinking of Cole, Anna’s face showed a hint of hesitation. If it weren’t absolutely necessary, she really didn’t want to take the risk of seeking Cole’s help! But now, she had no other choice.
She could only hope that Cole wouldn’t break his promise. With that in mind, Anna took a deep breath and picked up the red wine glass on the table, tilting her head back to finish the remaining wine. Afterwards, she wiped the stains from her lips and said, her eyes unfocused, "Alex, why do I feel so dizzy after drinking this wine?"
Alex glanced at her, his eyes impatient. He put down his knife and fork and said flatly, "Let’s go. I will take you back."
Upon hearing this, her eyes lit up, and she stood up, saying, "Thank you, Alex." Then, she walked to Alex’s side and added, "Alex, I feel a little dizzy. Could you support me?"
Alex’s movement to pull his arm away paused for a moment, then he quickly stood up and walked towards the door. He was already in a bad mood after the meal today.
For Anna, who was causing trouble, he just wanted to get rid of her as soon as possible. The two of them left the private room, and Anna looked around.
At a glance, she saw Claire sitting by the window. She tightened her arm around Alex and looked over provocatively.
Claire turned her head and witnessed the scene. At the sight of Anna, alarm bells rang in her heart, and she instinctively blocked Leander beside her.
However, Alex’s gaze was fixed on the door, and his footsteps were quick. So the two of them only caught a glimpse of each other. But Claire knew that Anna had already found out about Leander’s existence!
This was an extremely dangerous situation for Claire!
"Leander, did you meet anyone when you went to the bathroom just now?" Claire asked anxiously, looking at him.
Leander, his mouth full, nodded. His big eyes flickered with confusion. Seeing this, Claire became even more nervous and asked, "Who was it?"
"Daddy, and a not very smart-looking aunt," Leander said slowly after swallowing his food.
Claire’s face turned pale, and she sat back in her chair, lost in thought. Seeing her like this, Nelson also became nervous and asked, "What’s wrong, Claire? You don’t look good."
Claire looked up at Nelson and said, "Nelson, can I ask you for a favor?"
Nelson smiled helplessly. "What do you need? Just tell me, why ask for a favor?"
Claire blushed. She had been under Nelson’s care for so many years, and it was impossible not to be moved, but not in that way...
She looked at Nelson with a hint of apology in her eyes and said, "Nelson, if there is anything I can do for you, I will do my best. But on this matter, please help me."
After speaking, Claire picked up Leander and said, "From today on, Leander will stay at home all the time. I hope you can send some people to protect him."
Nelson’s expression turned serious when he heard this. Claire continued, "It was Anna who colluded with Cole back then, which caused so many things to happen."
"Today, she saw Leander. Given her personality and obsession with Alex, she will definitely not let Leander remain in the picture. So, she will try her best to harm my child. I have a premonition that Cole will come knocking on our door again soon. Therefore, Leander must stay at home and never be alone."
After hearing Claire’s words, Nelson frowned and asked, "Are you saying that Cole may try to kill Leander?"
"If I’m not mistaken, that’s probably the case," Claire said thoughtfully.
Nelson narrowed his eyes and looked at Leander with a serious expression. "We must be fully prepared for this kind of thing. Nelson, you’re very busy, but I really don’t know who else can help me besides you."
Nelson reached out and gently touched Leander’s head, speaking in a warm and gentle voice, "What are you talking about? I’m not helping you. Leander is my treasure. If anything happens to him... I will bury this country with him."
Nelson smiled gently, but his words carried a sharp seriousness.
Leander looked at Claire, then at Nelson, and said, "Mom, Uncle Nelson, I will be good. You don’t have to be so nervous! Besides, I’m actually very capable. Even if a bad uncle comes looking for trouble, Leander isn’t scared!"
As soon as Leander finished speaking, Claire’s heart suddenly felt a sharp pain.
"Leander, don’t say that! In a little while, Mom will take you to buy a phone. From now on, if anything happens, you must tell Mom first!"
Leander was taken aback by Claire’s sharp tone. He couldn’t help feeling a little aggrieved. But when he heard that Claire was going to buy him a phone, his eyes lit up. He blinked his big eyes, not knowing what he was thinking.
Claire’s beautiful eyes turned cold, and her face suddenly darkened.
At night, in the study of the Miller family...
Alex sat at his desk, staring at the food box on the table, conflicted. He never imagined he would be involved with the young master of the Powell family.
Alex felt like a thorn was lodged in his heart, causing unbearable pain. His gaze suddenly fell on a small USB drive.
A five-year-old child had given him the gift, and somehow, Alex subconsciously picked it up. After hesitating for a moment, he inserted the USB drive into the computer. Moments later, his eyes widened in shock. On the screen was all the information about Cole, even confidential files were displayed.
When Alex saw Cole’s photo, his face turned pale. "How could this be..." In the photo, a young Cole looked exactly like Alex, both in appearance and demeanor. As he scrolled through the information, forgotten memories began flooding back. After a moment of struggling, he leaned back in his chair, his eyes glued to the USB drive.
Whoever had obtained this information was no ordinary person. He couldn’t believe a five-year-old had given him such a gift. Suddenly, Alex froze, a small figure flashing in his mind—one that looked remarkably like him. With this realization, he took out a small note from his pocket: "Leander" and "Claire."
Alex shot up from his seat, his eyes filled with shock. Could it be that Claire’s son was actually his? His heart raced, his legs felt weak, and he stood there, utterly stunned. But how could this be possible?
Alex shook his head, unwilling to believe it. But if not, how else could he explain it? The child looked so much like him. Did that mean he was Claire and his child? But why couldn’t he recall anything about Claire in his memory? Frustrated, Alex pressed his hand to his forehead.
For years, he had suffered from the same nightmare. In his dreams, he was married, but his wife had been kidnapped and vanished without a trace. And now, he was starting to wonder if it wasn’t just a nightmare—maybe it was something he had forgotten!
With this thought in mind, Alex could no longer sit still. He grabbed his phone and made a call. Emma’s voice on the other end sounded tired.
"Alex? Why are you calling so late?"
Alex glanced at the time, then apologized. "Sorry, Mom, for disturbing your rest. There’s something I need you to be honest about."
Hearing the seriousness in his tone, Emma’s drowsiness faded. "What is it?"
"Did I get married?"
Emma fell silent for a long time before whispering, "Why are you suddenly asking about this?"
Alex felt a growing certainty. He asked, "Was her name Claire?"
Emma’s voice became strained and emotional. "Have you seen her? Alex, please, listen to your mother—let the past be the past. We..."
"Mom!" Alex interrupted, his tone cold. "Tell me the truth. What happened?"
Emma was taken aback, then whispered, "You did get married, and her name was Claire. But five years ago, your enemies kidnapped her, and she’s been missing ever since. You were devastated and searched for her endlessly. It broke my heart to see you in such pain."
Emma began to sob. "Alex, your life is good now. I don’t want you to keep thinking about those terrible things!"
Alex remained silent, listening to his mother’s voice on the phone, his eyes slowly closing. After a long pause, he opened them and asked in a deep voice, "Why did I forget all of this?"
