Rebirth: The Heiress Plans Her Revenge -
Chapter 54: Acceptance
Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Acceptance
The car arrived at the Li’s old home.
Li Chuxi was scared, as evidenced by the way she clutched Xin Yan’s hands.
"It is fine, everything will be fine; your father and I are here with you, so do not worry," Xin Yan reassured her, and she nodded.
Aunt Fei greeted the three as they entered the house, and she appeared surprised to see them with a little girl.
"Where is Grandfather?" Li Qiang inquired.
"He is in the painting room," Aunt Fei said absentmindedly. The presence of a child astounded her greatly.
"Okay, thank you," he said to Aunt Fei as they walked toward the painting room.
Knock! Li Qiang knocked on the door, and a low ’come in’ was heard.
The couple exchanged a few glances before Li Qiang opened the door.
They were greeted with the odor of paint. Xin Yan exhaled. She had no idea that the grandfather was skilled in this particular area.
"Why have you come?" Grandpa Li’s voice jolted Xin Yan out of her reverie, and she turned to face the old man, who was still agile while painting.
"Grandfather, we have come to show you our child," Li Qiang announced, and a loud noise erupted.
As Xin Yan looked over, her heart sank. Grandpa Li simply broke his paintbrush into two finely equal halves. He was surprisingly strong for an elderly man.
"What did you just say?" He finally focused on them, which is when he noticed Li Chuxi, and his eyes flickered slightly with various emotions.
"Why did you two decide to adopt a child?" He inquired. Li Qiang looked at her and knew she needed to explain, so she did.
After she was finished, Grandpa Li fixed his gaze on Li Chuxi, who shuddered and hid behind Li Qiang, who sighed as he turned to look at his grandfather.
Li Qiang commented, "Grandfather, you are scaring her."
"What is her name? Grandpa Li exhaled. He knew he could no longer deter his grandchildren. They had already obtained legal documents against her, so attempting to persuade them to release her was futile.
"Li Chuxi," Xin Yan responded with a smile. She realized he had already accepted her, and there was nothing he could do.
"Chuxi, that is a nice name. Will you greet Grandpa?" Grandpa Li beckoned to her, but she hesitated.
’Should I greet him or not? Compared to mom’s grandparents, it appears that he does not love me,’ she thought to herself as she stared at him.
"I promise not to hurt you, and even if I do, your parents will not let me off," he made a lighthearted joke to calm her down, but she became even more terrified.
Xin Yan noticed her hesitation and let out a powerless sigh. Chuxi was not to blame. Children were sensitive, and Li Chuxi appeared to have sensed his hostility, making her resistant to him.
"Listen, Chuxi, he is your great grandfather; he will not hurt you; you must greet him in order to receive his blessings," Xin Yan explained patiently.
"Great-grandfather?" She inquired, and Xin Yan responded by nodding.
Xin Yan responded, "Yes, great-grandfather, because he is your father’s grandfather."
"Alright, I will greet him," she agreed, and Xin Yan smiled.
"Good girl," she complimented, ruffling her hair lightly.
Xin Yan let her go as the girl took small steps toward Grandpa Li.
Grandpa Li looked at her before shifting his gaze to Xin Yan, then Li Qiang. He was not sure if it was because she was old or if his eyes were playing tricks on him, but she reminded him of Xin Yan and Li Qiang in some ways.
He was so preoccupied with his thoughts that he had no idea when the little girl had appeared in front of him.
"Great-grandfather," she called obediently, jolting him out of his reverie.
"Good girl," she said as she stood in front of him, her face magnified for him to see clearly.
His eyes were definitely not deceiving him. He was not sure if the couple was aware, but they appeared to be clueless, and he sighed.
"Grandpa only has this jade bracelet to give you; it symbolizes good luck, and Grandpa wants you to wear it all the time." Grandpa Li removed a bracelet from his wrist and motioned for her to stretch out her hand, which she did.
He clasped her wrist and wore the bracelet for her.
Xin Yan looked at Li Qiang and communicated through their eyes.
Li Qiang explained that this meant Grandpa Li had already accepted her. The bracelet was one he had always seen his grandfather wear, and now he was giving it to her, cementing her place in the family.
She was now Li’s and Xin’s young princess.
Li Chuxi’s eyes lit up as she looked at the bracelet. "Thank you Grandpa," she said sweetly as she continued to admire the bracelet.
"Take her to Aunt Fei; I want to speak with both of you," Grandpa Li ordered authoritatively.
Xin Yan swallowed a little. She knew they were going to be chastised. Even if Li Chuxi had already been accepted, because they had made a decision without the elders’ consent, they were bound to be lectured.
Xin Yan took her to Aunt Fei, who was overjoyed to have the little one around. Li Qiang waited in the study while his grandfather changed; he had been painting for quite some time.
"Sit," he told them once they were inside the room.
"Why did you make a decision without telling me or your grandparents?" Grandpa Li questioned as he stared deeply at both of them, his aura overwhelming both of theirs at the same time.
Xin Yan gulped. They would not be spared, as was expected.
"Are your grandparents aware?" The question was intended for Xin Yan.
"No, they are not; they just met with Chuxi yesterday," she said quietly.
"I will ask again: why did you decide to adopt her suddenly? There are many options for caring for her, but you both chose to adopt her, so why?" Grandpa Li asked once more.
The couple shared glances. They had no idea why they made such a decision, so how would they respond to the question?
