Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Maternal Love 1
She shook her head as she turned to face her assistant, who was equally perplexed. It appears that her assistant was also unaware of the situation.
She looked at the dress and felt hesitant. She wanted to purchase this dress for her niece. Will she have to give up on this?
Her eyes sparkled as a thought passed through her mind.
"Last I checked, you do not have a small child in your house, so why would you want to buy a dress?" Gu Shi smirked, believing the dress was already hers.
"Aunty Yan, I have already taken a bath, and this dress looks great on me," Xin Chuxi said.
Gu Shi was taken aback when she noticed the little girl. Her gaze darted to Xin Yan, who had a loving gaze for the girl. Her tongue clicked briefly. She appeared to have discovered a very big secret.
"Xin Yan, do not tell me that this is your illegitimate child. If Li Qiang found out, I wondered how he would react." Gu Shi had a fake concerned expression on her face as she sounded confident in her words.
Xin Yan and the others stared at her as if she were already insane. Little Chuxi had vowed not to allow anyone to speak ill of Xin Yan, so she attacked verbally.
"Then it appears that this aunt may also have a child outside," Xin Chuxi said innocently, but Gu Shi’s expression changed dramatically; she had a guilty look on her face.
"You brat, how could you say that?" She was about to raise her hands to Xin Chuxi, but Xin Yan was quick to respond by catching a hold of her hand.
"Did I say anything wrong? I thought it was basic courtesy to act properly; it is not right to accuse someone without proof, is that not correct, Aunt Yan?" Xin Chuxi’s heart warmed as she looked up at Xin Yan, who was fighting on her behalf.
"Little Chuxi is correct," Xin Yan responded with a loving smile.
Gu Shi was annoyed as she got rid of Xin Yan’s hands before storming away in anger.
"Xin Chuxi, you should not have done that," Xin Yan reprimanded.
"But she was insulting you, and I could not take it," Xin Chuxi said, pouting her lips slightly, which Xin Yan thought was funny.
"But you should have left it to me; Aunty knows how to handle herself, so you do not have to worry about me," Xin Yan explained, and she nodded.
"Come on, Aunty has shopped for beautiful dresses for you; do you want to see them? Xin Yan inquired, and Xin Chuxi enthusiastically nodded.
After an hour of shopping, Xin Yan decided that the clothes were sufficient.
"Are you excited that we will be visiting Grandpa and Grandma right now?" Xin Yan questioned little Chuxi, who responded with delight.
They were in the car and on their way to the Xins’ home. They arrived at the old house, and Xin Chuxi’s expression brightened.
She had never seen such a large house before, so she was taken aback.
"Will Grandpa and Grandma be pleased to see me?" Xin Chuxi fiddled with her fingers as she tilted her head innocently towards Xin Yan, whose little heart beat with maternal instinct.
"Silly girl, they will be delighted to see you," Xin Yan helplessly said as she led her into the house.
"Miss, you are back home, and with such a cute girl," the housekeeper said, smiling warmly at Xin Chuxi.
"Are my grandparents present?" Xin Yan inquired, and the housekeeper responded by nodding.
"They are in the garden," the housekeeper responded, and Xin Yan nodded.
"Let us go, little Chuxi," Xin Yan said as they walked towards the garden together.
’Why does the little one resemble Miss Xin when she was young?’ The housekeeper thought to herself, her gaze remaining fixed on their retreating backs.
’Maybe I am just thinking deeply about it; the girl looks five; did the Young Miss have a child when she was eighteen? That is ridiculous; just forget about it,’ the housekeeper smacked herself before returning to her work.
"Aunt Yan, your house is really big," Xin Chuxi exclaimed in shock and surprise as they walked through various corridors to reach the garden.
"Do you think it is large?" Xin Yan laughed heartily.
"Of course, it is very large, and I wonder how many people can live here; it will be more than enough for the orphanage residents," she whispered the last sentence.
"Did you say anything? Xin Yan inquired because she could only hear the first few words she spoke.
"Nothing, I just commented on how big your house is," Xin Chuxi said, shaking her head.
"Silly girl, it is also your house, so do not be envious, did I make myself clear?" "You have every right in this house just as much as I do," Xin Yan told her, attempting to make her understand.
"I understand, aunt," she replied with a small smile as they approached the garden.
"Grandpa, Grandma," Xin Yan interrupted the old couple’s private moment.
Grandma Xin was the first to respond to her call. She traced Xin Yan’s hands and was surprised to discover her holding the hand of a small girl.
"What is this, Xin Yan?" Grandpa Xin inquired as he looked into the little girl’s eyes as she squirmed.
"Please be calm, Grandpa; this is what happened," Xin Yan quickly explained.
When she was finished, the two elders looked at the girl with love and pity in their eyes.
"It is great that you brought her back and named her, Yanyan," Grandma Xin said, wiping a tear from her eye.
"Why did you choose the lovely name Chuxi for her?" Her grandfather asked.
"Chuxi literally means saying goodbye to the past and welcoming a new change, so I was wondering why she could not bear the name," Xin Yan shrugged as she responded.
"Good, little Chuxi, you have chosen such a lovely name for her; will not you hug me? "I am your grandfather," Grandpa Xin said warmly, stretching his arms for her to hug him.
