Chapter 1458: Chapter 1430 Won’t Let You Down
Mario Yuno and Kiara returned to the hotel in complete silence. He kept a stony face throughout, and Kiara didn’t disturb him. It was only when they were about to enter the hotel that she tugged at him to stop.
"I’ll find someone to investigate her current situation and try to arrange her life as much as possible."
"Kiara, I—" Mario Yuno was very touched when he heard her say this.
She really was the person who understood him best.
"Don’t say anything else; we’re husband and wife."
Mario Yuno hugged her, moved. How had he deserved such a wise wife? It was rare to find a kindred spirit in life, and even more fortunate when that kindred spirit was also his lifelong partner.
The man in a suit who had just come out of the hotel happened to witness this scene. He had already seen Camden and Kiara’s "affair" the day before, and now he saw these two embracing in broad daylight, displaying a face of moral decline as he cast a deep look of disdain at them.
As Kiara was held in Mario Yuno’s arms, she felt this strong disapproval and glare subtly back, What’s it to you, huh!
So arrogant! The suited man quickened his pace, thinking, These shameless people!
After returning to the hotel, Kiara sent Mario Yuno to pick up Wendy. She wasn’t sure if her daughter had been fussy after staying with Eldest Brother for so long. The hotel had a swimming pool, so Kiara suggested that Camden pick up the child and take her swimming as well.
Camden was certainly not in a good mood right now; having his daughter with him might help to alleviate some of his inner pressure.
Kiara took this opportunity to make a phone call to Yuzo Joel. As soon as the call connected, her eyes narrowed.
"Dad, what are you doing?" Why was there music?
Yuzo Joel quickly muffled the phone and jogged to a private room, showing a devoutly doting father’s face.
"I’m listening to music to relax my mood."
"Sneaking drinks, hitting the bars, and engaging in reckless liaisons with women?!"
"Absolutely not!" Yuzo Joel quickly denied, refusing to admit anything even under oath.
"I’ll have someone check the house to see if you’re not there. You know the consequences of deceiving me."
Yuzo Joel broke into a cold sweat on his forehead. The housekeeper lady had run off overseas and still managed to remotely control him. He complained in his heart, but his feet honestly already began to take him outside—the prospect of being caught lying to his daughter was something he couldn’t afford to face.
"Kiara, surely you didn’t call me just to check up on me? I heard you won an award; I haven’t even congratulated you yet. How about this, Dad will reward you with a car, okay? Look at what kind of cars your senior brothers drive, and then look at you, driving a pitiable BMW—I feel so sad seeing that..."
He actually wanted to give her a yacht but that idea was still in the works, so offering a small gift in the meantime seemed good.
"I quite like my little car and don’t need to change it, but Dad, I really do need your help with something. I’d like you to help me investigate a person. I’ll send you her photo by phone in a moment. Her name is Olivia Smith, and she has a 5-year-old son named Chad." The photo was taken by Kiara while Olivia Smith was unconscious, and she got the names through the translator.
"So with just a photo and two names, you’re asking me to find a needle in a haystack?"
"I know my dad is a man who can do anything, and you’ve never let me down."
"... Alright, give me some time."
Having consumed this bowl of chicken soup, it’s a pleasure to play Mrs. Kiara’s all-capable dad. Mrs. Kiara had suppressed Mario Yuno with this very strategy for many years, and now it worked just as effectively on Yuzo Joel; there was nothing wrong with it.
Mrs. Kiara felt very reassured entrusting matters to Dad. Kiara, however, had her own private agenda regarding this issue.
Kiara supported Mario Yuno in paying Olivia Smith’s medical expenses, yet had no intention of providing excessive aid to Olivia and her son, especially towards Baron’s child, Chad. Kiara would never consider adoption or deliberate nurturing of the child. She was worried that Mario Yuno might do just that, which is why she took the initiative to get involved and obtained the authority to handle the matter from Camden.
Mario Yuno was a man who took responsibility far too seriously, particularly concerning the matter of Baron. He always harbored feelings of guilt, and now that he knew Olivia Smith had a terminal illness and wouldn’t live much longer, it was all too easy for him to make a decision to adopt. This was precisely what Kiara did not want to see happen.
Call her selfish if you will, or say she has too keen an insight into human nature, but she was resolute in the belief that nurturing a tiger could only bring trouble.
True, Baron was killed by Camden’s hand, but that was his own fault. Would Baron’s family think so?
They would not.
Baron’s widow and children would only see Mario Yuno as the mortal enemy who killed their father. No matter the reason, to them, he was an enemy. If she helped too much, what would they do if the child grew up and learned the truth, seeking retaliation?
Especially after seeing that wild look in the child’s eyes, Kiara became even more determined. If the day came that Olivia Smith truly died, she would help the child find a suitable home, but she would never allow Mario Yuno to have even the slightest entanglement with the boy.
In the future, Kiara would also block any opportunity for the child to engage in dangerous professions, severing them completely.
If possible, Kiara was willing to invest a portion of her finances to allow the child to pursue a career in the arts. Art was best at dissolving hatred. Her principle was clear: It was fine to spend money on inconsequential matters, but she was resolutely against nurturing potential threats.
It was like the psychodrama Kiara designed today; any abnormal psychological state could be traced back to experiences long past. Baron’s child, though deserving of sympathy, carried too much animosity—eyes filled with resentment and wariness, as if the whole world owed him a father. What would happen if he learned that Mario Yuno had killed his dad?
In Kiara’s eyes, Mario Yuno was her everything. Beyond today, she had no intention of personally dealing with the child any longer. The child’s future living expenses and his mother’s medical costs would be conveyed through others.
For Mario Yuno and the child, this was the best possible outcome.
As she aged, Kiara handled things with increasing thoroughness. Even if she didn’t let Yuzo Joel investigate Olivia Smith, there was no issue; it was just her professional habit to be more careful. She hadn’t anticipated that this would lead to a serious complication later, but that’s another story.
Her determination to protect her family was unwavering. Kiara decided to adjust her mood, picked up her swimsuit, and went to find Camden. Her competition was over, and she planned to spend the remaining days with her family. For everything else, she was willing to pay money, but when it came to emotional investment or mood disruptions, sorry, there were none.
Her heart was too small, unable to hold anyone but her family.
Mrs. Kiara dealt with Baron’s widow swiftly and efficiently, whereas Aka was left with lingering attachments.
After the competition, Aka said what she wanted to say, releasing all her emotions. But once she stepped off the stage, her heart felt empty.
Mrs. Kiara was right. By contrasting angels and demons on stage, Aka indeed overcame her phobia. She defeated Molly Palmer not only within herself but also surpassed Molly. However, this victory did not bring her joy.
Her first instinct after leaving the stage was to look for Molly.
But by that time, Molly had already been knocked out by Kiara’s well-aimed strike. Aka didn’t feel right until she could see Molly. Driven by urgency, Aka and Zoel Cohen searched together, and after spending half the afternoon, Aka finally saw Molly at the airport, ready to leave.
