Rebirth in 1986: Unforgettable Regrets
Chapter 124: Caution (Second Update)

Chapter 124: Chapter 124: Caution (Second Update)

"You still dare to argue?" Factory Director Fula clutched his chest, stood up with his protruding belly, and flung the documents he was holding from the office desk at Manager Niu, his voice rising several pitches in anger, "Niu Dazhuang, everyone says they want to look for me, yet you insisted—indicating if they don’t order in large quantities, they won’t seek us out."

"What’s that supposed to mean? Is this factory yours or mine? Are you the director or am I?"

"You didn’t even consult me, just turned them down, Niu Dazhuang, you’re really something!"

Director Fula’s eyes looked like they wanted to gouge flesh from his body. Over the years, this elder brother-in-law had been taking money from the factory without doing anything of significance. Fula had turned a blind eye but such incidents were not just once or twice.

But what happened today was different from before!

The other party really went to Xinglong to place an order, and the quantity was substantial, which made Director Fula’s heart feel as if he had swallowed flies, extremely uncomfortable—what should have been their earned money essentially handed over to outsiders.

And the one who pushed out this lucrative opportunity was none other than the elder brother-in-law standing before him, which made Director Fula enraged.

"Brother-in-law, I... who would have known they would do such a thing, I didn’t say anything." Manager Niu, being burly and rather high and mighty in front of others, seemed to have his nose in the air; but in front of Director Fula, his own brother-in-law, he was trying to act more obedient than a grandson.

The sewing machines were bought, the matters of the fabrics were settled, and so Tang Mingli’s business in Shenzhen was finished.

Tang Yue intended to explore Shenzhen a bit. There was no way Tang Mingli and Wei Jiajia could feel at ease letting Tang Yue roam around by herself; no matter what she said, Tang Mingli insisted on accompanying her.

"Uncle, it’s rare for you and Sister Jiajia to be together, you guys should go on a date," Tang Yue whispered to Tang Mingli.

Tang Mingli shook his head, not giving Tang Yue any chance to negotiate, saying firmly and decisively: "Xiao Yue, there’s no room for discussion. I promised your second brother and second sister-in-law to bring you back safely. Think about it, if something really happened to you, how would I explain it to them?"

"Uncle, it’s broad daylight, and I’m going to crowded places, how could anything happen!" Tang Yue tried to persuade Tang Mingli.

But Tang Mingli would not budge an inch on this matter, saying, "Xiao Yue, there’s no room for discussion on this. If you want to go out, we can accompany you for a day, and we’ll head back home by train tomorrow."

Tang Yue: "..."

Wei Jiajia also spoke up to persuade: "Xiao Yue, Shenzhen may seem peaceful, but it’s still quite dangerous for a girl alone. Just listen to your uncle. Wherever you want to go, we’ll go with you."

With the matter having reached this point, even if Tang Yue wanted to refuse, she really couldn’t. She had to agree.

In Shenzhen, in her past, she never had time to stroll around. Working three jobs, her daily life was spent either at work or on her way to work, and upon coming home, she had to wait on Wu Xinming as if he were some sort of lord.

Now that she thought about it, she really was foolish back then. Wooed by Wu Xinming’s sweet nothings, she couldn’t bear to part with the relationship that had been built over so many years. She remembered how she had wanted to muster the courage to leave, but Wu Xinming would suddenly turn romantic, making her reluctant to go.

Back then, she really had been blinded.

Tang Yue hung her head low, unwilling to reminisce about the past, and her gaze returned to the buildings of Shenzhen. The houses of today weren’t developing as rapidly as in the future, where everything would be high-rise buildings.

"Xiao Yue, where do you want to go? Someplace fun, someplace scenic, or maybe someplace with delicious food?" Wei Jiajia inquired. She had been to Shenzhen many times, and while not overly familiar, she roughly knew the direction to where one could eat, drink, and be merry.

"Is there a company in Shenzhen? Like, one that specializes in making clothes? The kind that makes high-end clothes for sale?" Tang Yue asked.

Wei Jiajia, a bit curious, said, "Xiao Yue, do you want to look at other people’s clothes? Well, there are such places, but we might not be able to get in."

Wei Jiajia answered uncertainly: "I’ve vaguely heard others mention it, but it’s quite far from here. By car, it would probably take about three hours."

"That far?" Tang Yue’s eyes widened. After thinking it over, she said, "How about we just go to the city center for a bit of fun, to broaden our horizons?"

"If you really want to go, then we can stay for one more day," Tang Mingli spoke up.

Tang Yue shook her head: "No need, there’s still a lot to do back in Wangjiang County, I was just asking casually."

"Oh." Seeing that Tang Yue was not insisting, Tang Mingli didn’t pursue the matter further. Wei Jiajia took them to the city center, which was the busiest area of Shenzhen. Even the smallest alley was teeming with people; it was bustling with life—a stark contrast to Wangjiang County.

Tang Yue picked out some small trinkets, not expensive, but very meaningful as souvenirs. For her dad, she chose a pair of brand-name shoes, which were not even available in Wangjiang County. The shoes were very comfortable; even if her dad had to stand for hours, wearing better shoes would make it more bearable.

For her mother, Zhang Hualian, she selected some practical items, like some very functional kitchen gadgets that would make dishwashing easier, as well as several waterproof aprons.

As for Tang Jun, she picked out many things for him. There had to be exam papers and his favorite comic books.

Seeing all these items, Tang Mingli was highly envious and said, "Xiao Yue, your second uncle is so lucky to have a daughter like you."

"Little uncle, when you and your future little aunt have a daughter, I’ll bet she’ll be just as sweet as me," Tang Yue teased, her gaze flitting between Tang Mingli and Wei Jiajia.

Tang Mingli cleared his throat somewhat awkwardly while Wei Jiajia blushed, but deep down, she was filled with a hint of anticipation.

Although the three of them didn’t buy much, picking up a little something here and there, their hands got full. For foods unavailable at home that Tang Yue found tasty, she always thought to buy some to take back for her parents and Xiao Jun to try.

Tang Mingli’s hands were full of purchases when suddenly, Tang Yue let out a scream. Someone’s gold necklace had been snatched, and the thief had collided with Tang Yue.

Tang Yue tumbled toward the side.

"Be careful." With his hands full, Tang Mingli, not daring to drop anything, stretched out his arms, trying to catch Tang Yue.

A flash of cold light swept past, and Tang Mingli saw that the necklace thief was holding a knife. Trapped by the crowd, it seemed the thief was trying to stab Tang Yue because she had gotten in his way, leading to his capture.

Without a second thought, Tang Mingli positioned himself in front of Tang Yue, and the thief’s knife plunged into Tang Mingli’s back.

Wei Jiajia’s eyes widened instantly.
