Chapter 147: Chapter 147; She is waking up
“I’m not here for pleasantries,” Yunchen replied, throwing the folder onto the glass table. “This is your son’s doing. The secret funds, shadow operatives around my company, and all the surveillance, all traced back to Tang Fenghao. I want to see him at this instance!”
Tang Yanshi’s eyes flicked to the documents that were scattered on the glass table, but his expression barely changed; he didn’t look surprised. “I’m not responsible for every action my son takes. By now, you should know all my sons are independent and they all move on their own! I can’t control that! If they mess, it’s upon them.”
“If I thought so, I wouldn’t be here, to do what?” Yunchen nonchalantly responded, his voice lowering, deadly and freezing, did he give a damn? No! They poisoned that tea and targeted his girl who is already fighting for her life in the hospital. “And you know you will be responsible for what happens next.”
Tang Yanshi began getting nervous hearing his words; it looked like Mu Yunchen was dead serious, and no amount of words would send him away tonight. They were meant to have a showdown.
Tang Yanshi forced a strained smile, though a flicker of unease betrayed him. “Mu Yunchen, use your brain. Even if Fenghao did it, he would not dare act without leverage. Have you ever asked yourself, what is she hiding that made him move so ruthlessly? You should thank me for raising a son with guts. Perhaps you have been blinded by her face and forgot, she’s not as clean as you think….. A lot happens in the orphanage and a lot is happening in the Zhou family….”
It’s not like he hadn’t heard what happened in the Zhou family. It was completely done and erased; even the company was now in someone else’s hands and being managed by someone else. With all these incidents happening, only Zhou Yuxi seemed to have escaped safely! How was it possible? Who was behind her?
Yunchen’s eyes narrowed dangerously. His voice heavily rumbled, vividly angered. “Finish that sentence, Tang Yanshi, and I swear you will be the first I bury tonight. Do you think dragging her name through the mud will save you? You failed to raise a son with decency, so now you will watch how I deal with him myself.”
Tang Yanshi’s breath caught in his throat, but before he could retort, footsteps sounded at the doorway…
Just then, another figure entered the sitting area; it was Tang Fenghao himself, and he had this casual and smug look on his face, he was surprised to see Mu Yunchen at first but thought he wouldn’t do anything. “Ah, Third Master Mu, are you making some house roll calls now?”
Yunchen didn’t waste words, from the moment he saw him, he was already moving. In a swift motion, he grabbed Tang Fenghao by the collar and slammed him into the marble pillar behind him forcefully. Gasps erupted from the maids and guards nearby.
“Ahhh!” They were shocked. Who expected him to react like that?
“Surround him!” Tang Yanshi shouted, calling his guards, who rushed into the sitting area surrounding Mu Yunchen’s men.
Yunchen’s men stepped forward in sync, forming an unbreakable line behind him, black suits, cold faces, each armed, each poised to paint the Tang residence red if their master so much as twitched a finger.
Tang Yanshi’s shout barely held weight against the lethal air pressing down on the room.
His guards hesitated, realizing too late that these weren’t ordinary bodyguards they could handle, they were Mu Yunchen’s personal shadows, trained to kill and vanish like smoke.
The air grew suffocating as weapons were subtly drawn under tailored jackets. A single spark would turn this elegant sitting room into a slaughterhouse.
Tang Yanshi’s cane struck the floor with a crack. “Mu Yunchen! This is still my house…..”
Yunchen didn’t spare him a glance. His eyes were twin blades fixed on Tang Fenghao’s swollen face. He jerked him forward from the pillar, then slammed him back again, marble groaned under the impact.
“Your house?” Yunchen’s voice was low and venomous, “No, Tang Yanshi..… Tonight, this place is mine. And this thing…..” he gave Fenghao another bone-jarring slam, earning a sharp grunt of pain, “…..this bastard you failed to leash…. he’s mine too until I’m satisfied.”
He leaned in so close that Fenghao could taste the cold metal in his breath. “Speak. Who’s behind you? Who poisoned that tea? Who ordered the tail on her? You are a coward, Fenghao, you don’t have the guts to plan it all alone.”
A guard stepped forward, voice trembling, gun half-raised pointed at Yunchen, “Third Master Mu, please…”
Yunchen’s men cocked their own weapons in a single chorus, and they aimed them at them; the Tang family guards froze in their actions.
They were so ready to bounce and kill everyone.
Tang Yanshi’s shout cracked through the tense air again, “Stand down, all of you!” His voice broke with rage and fear looking at Mu Yunchen, “Mu Yunchen, take your hands off my son. If you kill him today, you will start a war you can’t finish.”
Yunchen finally turned his head, just slightly…. the shadow of a cruel smile curving at the corner of his lips. “Then let’s start it now, but your son dies first today.”
He wrenched Fenghao back a hair’s breadth from his face.
“Last chance, are you talking or not? Or your father can plan your funeral before dawn.”
Tang Fenghao spat to the side, defiant. “She’s nothing, just a pawn in a game that started long before. Who told her to get involved in things that didn’t belong to her? It’s her fault and not mine! I didn’t send her to drink the tea and I didn’t send her to mingle with Tang Yuze.”
Yunchen’s hand tightened around his throat clutching it tightly, “Then consider this your checkmate.” His grip turned merciless, his voice ice and rough.
“I want to know everyone involved. You better speak up, you should know by now I don’t have any patience!” Mu Yunchen straightened his back, forcing himself to keep the rest of his wrath from bursting.
“I don’t know what you are talking about!” Fenghao coughed up blood, bruises blooming viciously under Yunchen’s iron fingers.
“Handle him, I want to see if he still has the guts to respond the way he wants!” He called his guards over and began dealing with him.
At Yunchen’s command, two of his men closed in without hesitation.
One ripped Fenghao away from the pillar and slammed him onto the marble floor. The other pinned his arms to his sides with a knee to his ribs, drawing a muffled groan from Fenghao’s bloody mouth.
A hard knuckle cracked across Fenghao’s cheek, once, twice and each strike was deliberate, more precise, and was meant to hurt but not to kill.
The dull thud of flesh on bone echoed in the vast sitting room, mixing with Fenghao’s ragged gasps and the soft whimper of the maids hiding behind the curtains.
Tang Yanshi lurched forward, with rage making his voice tremble: “Mu Yunchen! You savage, stop this now! He’s still my son! Stop it now!”
Yunchen’s eyes flicked to him for a second, eyes cold and looked merciless, sharp with disdain. “No. He’s your disgrace. Tonight, he learns what fear tastes like; let him speak when he’s ready, or let him drown in his teeth. He can make a choice that benefits him.”
“Keep going until he talks or can’t breathe,” he ordered his men flatly, never glancing at the pitiful sight of Tang Fenghao curled on the marble, coughing blood.
Meanwhile, back at the hospital…
Zhou Yuxi stirred awake after being unconscious for so many hours.
Her fingers twitched slightly, and a flicker of breath caught in her throat as her eyelashes fluttered. Su Feng noticed it instantly.
“Doctor! She’s waking up! She’s waking up…” he called them through the emergency call; he was glad that she was waking up, meaning her condition was getting stable.
Li Meili was standing to the side, eyes wide open as the medical team rushed in. She was happy that Zhou Yuxi was responding and regaining consciousness.
Zhou Yuxi could hear voices around her. She opened her eyes slowly, disoriented and weak. But the moment she saw familiar faces, Su Feng’s haunted eyes, and Li Meili’s relieved expression, she blinked again and whispered hoarsely, “…I’m alive?” Her throat felt dry, her lips lightly chapped and sore.
