Chapter 148: Chapter 148; You have the shares?

“Yes, yes… you are…!” Su Feng answered quickly as the doctors surrounded her, checking her vital signs. The poison had already been purged and cleared from her system; only the corroded patches of skin remained, but that would heal within a few days of treatment.

While the doctors worked, administering injections and adjusting her IV, exhaustion pulled her under again. She fell into a deeper, safer sleep.

“Master Su, she is doing well. Let her rest for now; it’s no longer serious; she will recover faster than you expect,” the head doctor assured him once they were done with the checkup. They packed up their instruments and left the room, promising to return for the next round of monitoring in the morning.

“All right. Thank you, doctor…” Su Feng murmured, relieved. In truth, it was better that she remained asleep, how could he even begin to explain to her that Mu Yunchen had gone on a rampage, and that was why he wasn’t by her side now?

“This is good! This is good! I can finally take a nap…” Li Meili sighed, her shoulders dropping. Zhou Yuxi was safe, and that was all that mattered.

She lay down on the couch, and Su Feng gently draped a hospital shawl over her. “Rest. I’m right here, nothing will happen,” he promised, tapping her shoulder lightly for comfort. Within minutes, Li Meili slipped into a deep sleep, drained by hours of worry and sleeplessness.

Back at the Tang Family Residence

Tang Fenghao gasped as Mu Yunchen’s grip tightened around his collar. Yunchen’s fury was a storm, and nothing, no plea or excuse, could stop what was about to happen tonight.

The air in the grand sitting room bristled with tension, the silence broken only by the faint drip of blood on the marble floor. Two other Tang family members knelt nearby, trembling as they watched Yunchen’s wrath unfold.

“Do you know how close she was to dying?” Yunchen’s voice was low but cut sharper than any blade. “Do you think your worthless life matters more than hers? She is my bottom line. How dare you send people to attack her while she lay there on the Hospital bed so weakly? Who gave you the guts to?”

Tang Yanshi, pale and shaking, stepped forward and raised a hand to intervene, “Mu Yunchen, please, this is not the way to handle the situation. We are a lawful family. Let’s talk this out like civilized people… calm down, and…..”

But Yunchen silenced him with a glare so cold that it froze every word in his throat that was about to come out. With a brutal shove, he slammed Tang Fenghao against a marble pillar again. The sickening crack echoed through the hall. Fenghao crumpled to the floor, coughing, hatred and humiliation twisting his face, but he was powerless.

“This is the place, Tang Yanshi. Right here, right now… I will settle this filth at my feet. He needs to taste the same agony she did!” Yunchen snarled, his eyes sweeping the gathering relatives who had woken to the commotion. None dared to step between him and his prey.

Yunchen turned back to Tang Fenghao, his voice cold and lethal, “Tell me…. what poison was it? Where did it come from? Who gave you the nerve to think that you could touch her so easily?”

“I don’t know….”

Even though the doctors said she would survive, the thought that someone had dared lace that tea with something so lethal ignited a fresh blaze of rage in Mu Yunchen’s veins. Tonight, he would bury the truth in blood if he had to.

“What’s the poison?” Mu Yunchen turned around to gaze at him. Even though the doctors said it wasn’t a serious situation, he needed to know what kind of poison this was and where it came from! He didn’t know there would be such a lethal poison that could be mixed with tea so easily.

“I told you! I don’t know what you are talking about!” Tang Fenghao has been denying the claims and acting like he knew nothing of that. He was adamant with his answer.

Mu Yunchen angrily kicked him away, and he forcefully knocked against the wall; you could hear bones cracking, sending chills, “Bring him over here…” He ordered the guards who walked over and picked him up and brought him over to him.

They heavily dumped his body onto the floor, and Third Master Mu heavily stepped on his chest, cracking the bones.

Tang Yanshi’s face remained unreadable, but something shifted in his eyes, calculation, perhaps even fear. He didn’t know why but Mu Yunchen looked like he was planning on killing his son.

Tang Fenghao gasped, pain radiating through his ribs where Mu Yunchen’s shoe pressed down mercilessly.

He clawed at Yunchen’s ankle, but the man did not even flinch. He stomped on his chest several times and you could hear bones cracking.

“Answer me, Fenghao. Which one of your dogs slipped that poison? Where is it from?” Mu Yunchen’s voice was deceptively calm now, the kind of calm that made every servant and onlooker shrink back in terror.

Fenghao spat out another mouthful of blood, chest heaving. He looked desperately at his father, Tang Yanshi, but the old man’s expression was carved from stone, unwilling or unable to save him this time. This situation was out of his control, and how could they have known that this man loved that girl this much? If they knew, they couldn’t have tried to attack her.

“I don’t…. guh… I swear… I only ordered them to scare her… cough… not to kill her! I don’t know where they got the poison; the one I gave them was just a diarrhea one, and it was meant for my brother…” His voice cracked under the weight on his chest and the panic clinging to his spine. If he didn’t speak up, he would only end up dying. He didn’t want to die.

Mu Yunchen’s lips suddenly twisted into a cruel smirk. He crouched down, bringing his face close, gazing into those frightened eyes; Mu Yunchen’s eyes were so cold that they could freeze anyone’s blood.

“Scare her?” he echoed, his voice producing a low hiss while he squinted his eyes. “You dare scare my woman… then nearly poison her to death… and expect me to believe it was an accident?” And then, that tea was directed at Li Si Ming and Tang Yuze, how could he believe him?

He grabbed Fenghao’s jaw, forcing his bloodied face up to meet his. “Your life isn’t enough to pay this debt, but since you want to act tough, I will break you slowly until your tongue learns to confess and give me the information that I exactly want.”

Tang Yanshi’s hand trembled slightly at his side, but he did not speak. The other Tang family members hid behind the pillars, too terrified to breathe too loudly to be noticed.

A guard stepped forward, bowing his head respectfully, “Third Master, shall we bring the other two for questioning now?”

Mu Yunchen did not look up. He kept his lethal focus locked on Fenghao. “Chain them all up and strip them. I want them crawling like the rats they are before dawn.”

“Yes, Master Mu!”

The two other suspects trembled so hard that they nearly collapsed as the guards dragged them off, ignoring their screams for mercy.

Tang Yanshi finally spoke, his voice carefully measured so as not to anger him any further, “Yunchen… that’s enough. Fenghao is still my son and you should know that. If you kill him tonight, you will push the Tang family and the Mu family into an all-out war and we will never be reconciliable. Even for your woman, is it worth the blood that will spill?”

Mu Yunchen’s eyes flicked to him, for a heartbeat, that icy mask cracked, just enough for a flicker of raw grief and fury to show through.

“Tang Yanshi, you don’t know yet but let me inform you, I own numerous shares of the Tang Conglomerate, and I will be the President of that company from today henceforth.” He knew they didn’t know Tang Yuze had transferred the company shares over to Zhou Yuxi, she was the majority shareholder currently.

“You… You… You… You have the shares?” Tang Yanshi was shocked, and his entire body trembled heavily. The shares just fell into someone’s hands who wasn’t their family member.
