Chapter 54: Loss

[Mind Archive upgraded to Mind Library]

[Mind Library]

Different lines and arrows appeared before him, showing him everything, even though he wasn’t looking.

At first, the outlines of the most important things appeared, being him and the monster, then the surrounding area.

And in no time at all he could see everything around him almost as if he had his eyes wide open, if not even better.

All of the information stored inside the skill projected itself into his head, allowing him to predict Medusa’s movement without trying.

The skill also created red patches around Medusa’s body, which Leo could tell were its weak points.

Now, it had turned from a fight of endurance to a one-sided massacre, as Leo predicted, and countered every attack the monster tried to throw.

In no time at all, the beast fell, not having any more strength to fight back.

It looked ahead and could see Leo’s piercing gaze. His once black irises now shone with blue and purple hues, however, it didn’t feel like the same corrupt energy which was emitting from the Medusa.

Mind Archive, the skill that was with him since the start, helping him through countless dangers, now was even more connected to him.

As a last-ditch attack, Medusa tried to shoot an array of poison bolts.

Inside one of Leo’s eyes appeared a book, its pages were turning so fast no one could see what was written in them.

No one but him that is, as information about everything from the speed of the projectiles to the dampness of the area filled his head.

One by one, the attacks were deflected, and as Leo was about to swing to finish the monster...

"Ssssstop!!!"

Heins shouted while dropping down with Gloppy, who could now move as the paralysis wore off.

His loud voice snapped the summoner out of his trance, making him fall to the ground and snore loudly.

’He will be able to finish it off...’

Once the rest of the party made their way down back to the throne room, they saw Heins with one of the scimitars out standing next to the dead body of Medusa and unconscious Leo.

Without context, it looked like the prince had betrayed them and attacked Leo, sensing that, Gloppy ran to them to explain what had happened.

"I’m so sorry for that."

Nyssa apologized for jumping to conclusions while picking up the unconscious Leo.

"Itsss okay... they are in a better place now."

Suddenly, they could hear rumbling, like a thousand stray horses running, chaotic and never stopping,

The entire party looked up to see the source of the noise.

They were just in time to witness an army of centaurs running, all in the same direction.

"Are they going outside?"

Heins shook his head, he was just as confused, but since he took the path to the gate himself, it wasn’t hard for him to rule out that option.

"They ssseemed sscared, maybe one of the other tribes attacked them."

His knowing what the last two monster tribes were piqued Nyssa’s interest.

"Do you know where those tribes are?"

She inquired even further while all of them were taking a short rest nearby.

Trevor took out what was left of his rations and shared them with the exhausted Amelia and The Fearmonger.

"Don’t you want some Mr. Slime?"

He waved the last of his beef jerky in front of the Warlord.

However, the slime declined as he didn’t require food to keep living, just some mana.

Without any more hesitation, the older man dug into the food, savoring its taste.

"It shure is a sight to behold."

Their healer exclaimed as she watched the sea of monsters jumping right above them.

Even though the hole left behind was 40 meters in width, they were able to traverse it without a problem.

"*tch* It’s just stupid horses. When are we going to kill something?"

Ruby was shadowboxing the air, pumped up that she got to enter the gate after all.

In the middle of all this chaos laid Leo, peacefully sleeping unbothered by the surroundings.

***

The summoner opened his eyes, however instead of the throne room, he found himself in a dark place.

He unsuccessfully tried to stand up.

There was nothing to grip on, nothing to touch.

Nothing at all.

In every direction was darkness, overwhelming and neverending.

Leo looked down at his hands, just to find it empty. Cien was nowhere to be found as he checked every part of his body.

’Are you here?’

[Danger detected]

All of sudden, an enormous square appeared in front of him, rotating diagonally and horizontally.

Around it, two balls rotated, one black, the other white.

However, the link between the square and the white orb seemed way weaker than the other one.

[Error, Heart of The System in danger]

The link fully disappeared and the white orb detached itself from the square, flowing into the endless abyss and disappearing into thin air.

***

He jolted awake, breathing heavily.

<Hey! I was trying to wake you up>

Cien happily moved across the body of the summoner, but that only lasted a moment as he could see a worried expression on his face.

<What happened?>

’There was this... weird square, and you weren’t on me... and then... and then...’

All of those emotions made him not think straight as he stood up and leaned on the wall.

<Did you see the heart..?>

Leo wasn’t sure what he saw, however, he did his best to explain every last thing that he was able to remember.

When he got to the part with the white orb detaching itself from the core, the black ooze tensed up.

It was impossible not to see the liquid suddenly becoming a solid, making Leo understand that something was seriously wrong.

’Tell me, what did I see?’

<That was... Biel>

Deep in his mind, he already knew it, yet hearing it from someone else made him puke uncontrollably.

’Why did she even disappear? Did someone take her?’

<I don’t know... it has never happened before>

Nyssa approached the man as only now did she see him waking up. She offered her shoulder so he could rely on it.

"Just let me stay like this..."

He dismissed her, hoping to hide the weird state he was in from her.

’So what will happen to me now?’

Cien didn’t answer, he himself had no idea and could see the pain Leo felt.

<We... we need to focus on something else now>

His attempt at comforting the summoner didn’t work as he puked intensely, feeling something wrong inside him.

’What is happening?’

Leo could feel his heartbeat rising and not going down, getting louder by the second.

< It’s like those bikes the humans drive around. Me and her were like support wheels in the bike called The System>

It felt like his head was about to explode, in a moment he lost focus and couldn’t make out the letters written in the window.

So he closed his eyes, relaxed his muscles, and fell to the ground, unable to move at all.
