Chapter 53: Full Immersion

Chapter 53: Full Immersion

"Leo!"

Nyssa punched the monster away, sending it flying in the opposite direction before she ran towards the summoner.

"I’m fine! Go help Gloppy, and tell Amelia to support me the entire time."

They needed all hands on deck if Leo planned to succeed.

But now that the monster was struck by her attack, it would be hard to keep its attention only on Leo.

A brilliant idea crossed his mind to buy them more time and prevent them from going after the rest of the party.

"Hey, you stupid snake!"

He shouted towards the Medusa, grabbing her attention.

"I might have something you might be interested in."

Behind him stood the prince, who seemed to be something the creature wanted.

"Why is it even going after you?"

The summoner asked the Heins. It was unnatural behavior for such a monster to chase someone.

Usually, they only stood in underground labyrinths, sculpting statues in the likeness of their victims.

"I... I don’t know..."

His words didn’t seem to be fully true, but now was not the time to blame one or another as the beast crept closer to them.

Leo grabbed Heins under his arm and jumped high up to the ceiling, lodging the Spirit Sword into the wall for support.

Out of Medusa’s mouth, a volley of acid came out, almost identical to the one that the King had sent earlier.

They couldn’t defend against it due to their awkward positioning, taking the full blast of it.

Another vial of anti-venom disappeared as Leo poured it over himself and the prince.

[How much longer will it take?!]

He wasn’t sure how much longer they would be able to hold out against such an opponent.

Especially in a confined space such as this one.

[A few more minutes.]

Out of nowhere, the prince forced himself out of Leo’s grip and jumped down.

His eyes looked the same way as Medusa’s, however instead of succumbing to the corruption, he overcame it as he took out two scimitars from under his cloak and held them behind his head.

[Mirrored River]

Heins dashed right through the monster, leaving behind a giant wound.

It tried to regenerate it, not knowing about the drawbacks as it felt the wound only get worse.

The creature cried out in pain before running towards the doors.

From the tunnels, all of the guards who were left in the entire den ran inside to defend the monster against their will.

[We are done!]

Leo summoned a Serpent to blast the roof of the den away.

Its huge laser penetrated the ground without a problem until it reached the room in which they stood.

To survive, he picked up Heins and dashed towards the exit himself.

Medusa wasn’t so lucky as her now enlarged body was unable to fit through the small doors.

Without even looking at her, he ran out, leaving the creature behind to fend for herself.

[HP -1023!]

[HP -1995!!]

[HP -2743!!!]

The damage number just kept going up and up as the Beam continued scorching the entire throne room.

Once it finished, the only thing left behind was a cloud of smoke.

From above, the rest of the party who had used the tunnel they mined out to escape, looked down.

"I chant see anything at all!"

Gloppy looked down, seeing that something was still moving down there.

"It’s still alive! Look away!"

It was too late for him as Medusa looked right into his eyes.

His entire body tensed in an instant as the paralysis took its effect, sending him down back to the arena.

During his fall he could see someone running towards him.

Heins grabbed the slime by his feet and hid in a pocket created in the wall by the blast.

Another blast shot out, this time weaker due to the Mana consumption of the enormous summon.

Then another, even weaker.

By the fourth one, the damage was so low that the monster’s passive regeneration would out heal its damage.

[Medusa ⚠︎]

[HP 16 948/50 000]

After all of those attacks, she was still relatively healthy, the hard scaly armor across her entire body emitted smoke due to being deep-fried by the earlier lasers.

[Fearmonger, your time to shine.]

They had to continue attacking the monster, however, it started to realize what their strategy was and searched for any exit at all.

<You need to grab its attention!>

’I can’t fight against it without my eyes being closed or I might end up like Gloppy... think brain. think!’

Without a plan it would end up horribly, so he had to think of something and think fast as the Medusa was already going towards the exit Nyssa and others created.

<Close your eyes, I got an idea>

Leo listened and closed his eyes, walking towards the beast without the most important sense of fighting.

<Now use [Drop Table]>

[Drop Table]

[No target found]

He continued using that until.

[Medusa]

[Nothing]

Because it was his active skill, its messages rang loudly in his head, and using that he could figure out the position of the Medusa.

’Okay, now I know where she is, what next?’

<Guess its attacks>

With an audible sigh, he jumped towards the Medusa.

[Mind Archive]

Once cornered, they usually tried to create distance with their tail, and in case that failed, they would try to strike the target with their claws from the right.

Then a swing from the left, after that a hook to his chin.

One by one he dodged and blocked the attacks of the monster, feeling like the skill connected more and more with him.

[Leo, I will strike now!]

The Fearmonger just finished setting up her Hellwings, however seeing Leo fight more and more freely against the monster stopped her from firing.

His focus on using the two skills continuously while also blocking its attacks prevented him from paying attention to anything else.

’Now tail again...’

He could hear it moving on the ground and knew how to react to it. He jumped up high and sank his sword into it, leaving behind a nasty wound.

[HP -843]

[Medusa ⚠︎]

[HP 5 764/40 000]

Due to relying on Mind Archive so much in such a short time, his proficiency in using it got better.

So much better in fact that he could almost see the attacks with his eyes closed based on just his information.

As he struck it again, bringing it under 5 000 HP, the monster began to run away and attack unpredictably.

However, by now there was nothing it could do that Leo wasn’t able to counter.

Gloppy who only now felt the status effect disappear, could see the monster being chased by Leo, but something else struck him as even weirder.

There was a blue and purple aura around Leo, and small pages filled to the brim with notes seemed to fall out of him the more immersed he became.

[Unbound had achieved a monumental achievement]

[Achievement: Full immersion with the system]

[Reward: Upgrading Secret-grade skill [Mind Archive] to Celestial-grade]
