Chapter 52: Medusa

The raspy voice rang through the entire tunnel. Even though he said that they may come in, the tone of his words sounded way harsher than a simple option.

Without any input, the doors to the King’s chambers had opened widely, revealing a throne room.

In its middle, a throne where the King sat, and right next to him was the Seal they had been trying to find and destroy.

"Ssso you are part of the people who obliterated our army."

He looked at Gloppy and Ruby.

"And those who found my daughter."

The old man then switched his attention to the rest of the party. Before he could speak again, a pulse of energy waved through the crystal, trying to absorb the essence of the den.

However, instead of the energy being pulled into the Seal, the King made a hand movement, sucking out the pulse out of the Seal.

As he did so, the patches of corruption on his skin spread further, now taking almost half of his skin as theirs.

"You need to get her away from here... I don’t have much time left as you can see."

Before any of them could speak, the man grabbed his chest and coughed loudly.

"Give her to me right now!"

One of his eyes turned pure black and his arm shot out a giant bolt of acid towards them, Trevor instinctively dropped the woman and took out his shield, blocking the attack.

Marisa ran towards her dad and loosened the grip of the ropes that contained her.

While she was running, the entire party took out their weapons and were about to retaliate.

However, before any of them could as much as move a muscle, Heins appeared out of nowhere in front of them with his hands spread wide and screamed.

"Please sstop!"

All of Leo’s summons with him and Nyssa included stopped their attacks, confusing Trevor who stood there prepared to take any attack, and Amelia who was castint healing magic.

He sighed with relief and walked towards his father who was grasping for air and sweating.

"Ssson, I told you to leave!"

During the family reunion that was happening right in front of them, Leo took out a vial of anti-venom and threw it at Trevor just in case he got touched by the acid.

It looked like the King had come back to his senses, as his eyes regained their normal color and the Seal stopped to pulse.

The chain that was connected to the hydra seemed to be way weaker than all the other ones for an unknown reason to the party.

"So could you explain to us what’s going on?"

Leo inquired and pointed towards the crystal.

"I will if you take her away from this thing."

They decided to comply since there was nothing to lose from doing so. Once they were far enough from the throne, he began to speak.

"Thanksss to that thing right here, I can tell that you are the people hunting them down, and I’m willing to hand thisss one over without a fight."

He continued speaking while keeping one of his hands in check with the other.

"Father you can’t!"

Heins tried to speak, however he couldn’t as some unknown force was propelling him to leave the throne room.

Tears began to fall down his face as he left the room, confusing the party even more.

All of them were still on edge, prepared to fight in case another attack came, however, it seemed that the King held himself with great effort to not let that happen.

"I’ve already been tainted by the corruption, and so was Merisssa, far worsse than me."

With great effort, he stood up and walked slowly toward the Seal, placing his tainted hand on it.

"With each day, I can feel more of me disappearing in its place."

The king looked at his daughter with tears welling up in his eyes.

"Ssshe got hit the mosst from the three of uss, you need to be quick or the thing insside her will wake up."

Without hesitation, they complied, Amelia cast the Magic Nullification and Leo swung his sword.

In an instant, the Seal broke apart and all the corrupt energy contained inside the King started to fade.

"Thank you for ssaving ussss."

With a grin on his face, he sat down on the throne for the last time, as the last sparks of his life left the body.

"This doesn’t seem right."

Leo looked around worried, the emitted corrupt energy felt way inferior to all the other Seals they had destroyed so far.

"Father!"

Merisa finally broke free from the restraints and ran towards his dead body, as she ran past the summoner, he could barely see that there wasn’t any sadness on her face.

Instead a blank expression devoid of anything.

"Gloppy don’t let her get close!"

The urgency in his voice put everyone on guard, however, it was far too late as she touched the hand of her deceased father.

His body crumbled and all of the fleeting corrupt energy flew right into his daughter’s body.

All of her veins shone with the purple color and her hair got longer, way longer, and thicker.

She had also gotten way taller, and the once-green scales became pitch black.

Her hair turned into smaller snakes as the transformation ended.

Behind them, the doors opened widely as Heins ran back in, hearing the commotion and screaming.

Seeing what his sister had become next to the corpse of their father made the man fall to the ground.

"What’sss going on here?!"

As soon as the Medusa realized that the prince was in the room, she hissed loudly and shot toward him.

Trevor blocked her with a shield to the face, knocking her to the ground.

But as soon as his eyes met hers, an electric shock went through him, preventing the man from moving or speaking.

"You can’t look at its eyes or you will get stunned!"

Leo shouted as he ran towards the monster.

The Fearmonger caught the stunned man and took him to the other side of the room so Amelia could dispel the status effect.

Gloppy took out his rapier and went to support Leo, the cramped arena prevented either of them from using their main summons.

"Heins run away! Don’t let her catch you!"

He at least wanted to complete one of the two quests they were given.

However, the prince didn’t bud an inch, still stuck in a mortified state.

’Shit! He also already looked at her. We need more space!’

Medusa’s HP bar was way too big for them to defeat without their full power, especially with an annoying mechanic like that.

"Gloppy, go make a hole in the roof!"

There was an idea in his head that would let them change the fight to be in their favor.

Leo felt like he could hold the beast by himself, allowing everyone else to regroup.

However, he didn’t expect the sheer power of the monster as a strong whip from its tail sent him across the room into the wall.
