Chapter 45: Singularity

"What’s taking you so long Pulsar, Nebula requires us to complete the quest as soon as possible."

Another cloaked figure entered, the familiar power and the markings on his fingertips signaled to Leo that it was the same person they met in the Demon Castle.

The muscular man scoffed and pointed towards the group in front of them.

"Can’t you see Singularity? One of the targets is right there."

A sudden chill went down their spines as the shorter figure, one that their opponent referred to as Singukularity, stared at them.

Leo could sense malicious intent being targeted towards him, it intensified without an end, until...

It just disappeared.

"He said that assisting the newbie is more important. We must go."

Singularity expanded the portal and went through it, sending one final glance before passing through it.

As the acquentice of Pulsar disappeared, he clicked his tongue and walked through it behind them.

"Don’t worry, I will leave you a gift."

He took out a Corrupt Orb and Threw a fireball at it before he left it on the ground and left the same way Singularity did.

The orb began to pulse uncontrollably before stopping for a moment and ticking down.

"It’s a bomb! Run away!"

Leo screamed as he grabbed The Fearmonger under his arm and ran for it, while he was running he changed the style to Balanced Overdrive to speed up.

However, there was no explosion, instead a few of the dead Murlocks got sucked into it, and their life force drained to fuel the corrupt object further.

It grew in suction power the more life it drained, slowly turning the entire village to nothing.

"It’s like a black hole!"

His general shouted, not being able to fly fast enough to prevent the force of the vacuum.

Right in front of them, they could see the rest of their party, assisted by Nyssa and Gloppy, also trying to leave, but with each moment it got harder to do.

"Nyssa!"

He shouted towards them, grabbing her attention.

"Do you trust me?"

In his mind there had to be some sort of way to stop it from happening. It just wouldn’t make sense for a thing like that to have no flaw.

"I do..."

She hesitantly answered, a bit worried about what sort of idea he would have this time.

Leo inhaled deeply, calculating in his head the odds of him being correct. After all, it was the life of his first companion that was at stake here.

"You need to punch that thing! No magic, no energy. Just pure strength."

So far that was the only thing they didn’t test against them. They could absorb the magic energy of spells from what they had seen so far, but not once did they do so with physical attacks.

Once he saw her nod to this request, he threw The Fearmonger forward and signaled her to go in.

Nyssa let the suction take her, using it to accelerate her strike even further.

"Now Amelia!"

Just as she was about to be sliced and absorbed, the nun chanted a spell and raised her staff high.

[Magic Nulification]

The rain of golden light momentarily stopped the effects of the trap around the brawler, which allowed her to get even closer and spot the tiny orb responsible for all of this.

With a strong punch using Gideon, the core broke apart, turning the vacuum off and letting them all breathe.

"Sigh That was terrifying."

She remarked while breathing heavily. Her heart was beating fast because of the adrenaline.

All of them wanted to just lay there on the ground and ignore everything happening around them, it just felt so much better than the constant twists and turns this trek had in store for them.

"Gloppy... did you find anything in the Ice Golem cave?"

Leo reluctantly got up and extended his arm to the slime right next to him. He took him up on the offer and grabbed it.

"Yes, one of the Seals is there too, but we couldn’t do anything about it."

The summoner pulled him up before going to Nyssa. He gently pulled her up and a small smile appeared on his face.

"Thank you for trusting me."

Her expression turned into a puzzled one as he said it.

"I trust you, I’ve only come so far because I trusted you."

All of a sudden, she hugged him tightly, hiding her face in his shoulder, it was so out of the blue that he had no idea how to react.

"Nys..."

"Shut up and just stay like that for a moment."

He could feel tears dripping from her eyes and the hug getting even tighter. In his head, there was nothing he could say to apologize for putting them in such a situation again.

Instead of words, he decided to comfort her differently...

She could suddenly feel his hand on her head, gently going through her hair. Her grip tightened even more.

"I’m good now! Don’t you dare stuff like this again?"

Nyssa took a step backward, forcing on a wide smile as she went towards the rest of the party.

[We are heading towards the Ice Cave you lovebird.]

[It’s not like that!]

Leo answered instantly to The Fearmonger’s teasing, also heading towards them. Now that they have sorted out everything in this village, the trees could grow back freely, slowly turning into the lush forest it once was.

A few of the surviving Murlocks ran in their direction, but when they saw their forest going back to normal, they dropped their weapons and watched it flourish.

"Mlrlrlrk!"

Not a single one was left standing as they all ran towards the new terrain, swimming in the water of the lush rivers with excitement in every move.

As they swam in the uncorrupted terrain, an odd change began to take place as their bodies shrunk until they could barely reach a human’s kneecaps.

It was an unusual sight to witness, but they didn’t have time for it. The next place they had to go was the Ice Golem cave, even if for a moment.

They had to get rid of all the seals so the Hydra wouldn’t gain any more power.

"Quick, we are going right away!"

The summoner said as he ran towards the direction of the cave. Thanks to the moment of rest they had all of them were healed with Amelia’s magic and had their energy restored.

But the trade-off was Amelia now being way too exhausted to move as Leo held her on his back again.

A portal opened in an unlit lab somewhere, Pulsar and Singularity entered through it and looked towards a desk.

Sitting by it was a man playing with a Corrupt Shard, carelessly throwing it up and then catching it.

"We are here Doctor Nebula."

Both of them walked towards him, he turned to see them and smiled widely.

"Very well boys, at this rate we will finish this stage of the plan sooner than expected."

He laughed under his nose while looking through the window of his lab.

On the other side were piles of equipment and a dozen of shattered vats.

However in the middle stood a single still working one, filled with the corrupt liquid.
