Chapter 44: Voidspawn

"Leo, watch out!"

Amelia shouted as the summoner pushed Trevor away from the spike, cutting his leg on it.

He stood up and stared at the man standing on the Hydra’s head, his hand tight around the wound.

"Lhet me heal you Lheo!"

The priestess held out her staff and chanted once again, green particles flew towards the injured man.

[Chain Heal]

As the link of healing formed on Trevor and started to spread to Leo, a wicked grin appeared on the cloaked man’s face.

But to his surprise, the summoner knocked the staff out of Amelia’s hand using a serpent he summoned.

"Don’t! You can’t heal wounds created by their power."

In his mind, the scene of the gluttonous demon trying to heal his injury and feeling more pain instead was still vivid, and he wasn’t going to go through this.

Clap... clap... clap

They were met with applause from the man riding the hydra, and an ominous laugh as he jumped down, slowly floating downwards.

"I didn’t expect anyone to figure it out, you are truly as fascinating as he said."

When he touched the ground, the Hydra’s head went back into the thick fog, struggling to do so as it tried to resist.

He took off the cloak, revealing himself to them. A very bulky tall man cracked his knuckles while taking off his crop top.

Patches of the dark void on his forearms spread farther across his body as he flexed his muscles before jumping towards Trevor.

"Dodge!"

He was too slow at it due to the heavy armor, getting hit right on. Even with his shield taken out, the hit pierced it and hit the man straight in the jaw.

Trevor was sent flying through the hole they made earlier in the village. Amelia picked up her staff and ran after him to heal the wound left by the punch.

In retaliation to the attack, Leo summoned a dozen serpents and commanded them to shoot lasers as fast as possible, sacrificing accuracy for quantity.

It was obvious that this man was way beyond them in power, so he wanted to make up for that in numbers.

A barrage of beams flew his way. To Leo’s surprise, he didn’t move an inch, instead bracing himself for the impact by putting both of his hands in front of his face.

Most of them hit him straight in his chest, but most that was left behind was a bruise. Then the black patches on his arms began to pulse with a faint purple light.

"That’s what I’m talking about man!"

His movements got even faster after absorbing the energy. Whatever he was going to do with those fists, was not going to feel good.

[I need backup! Right now!]

Leo communicated with Gloppy and The Fearmonger, skipping over the three gems since he knew they would for sure come if they heard it.

Now he had to try holding out against that maniac. Even with Balanced Overdrive, he wouldn’t be able to dodge or tank the damage.

’This is going to be very stupid!’

[Spirit Sword Style: Agility Overdrive]

[Transforms all attributes into Agility + Allows the user to walk on air]

[Agility 248]

With the sacrifice of all defensive capabilities, he relied on his evasiveness to dodge.

He jumped high into the air.

Hop

"One.."

Hop

"Two..."

The next step was impossible to do, right now that was his limit.

It was a great power, however he didn’t know how well he felt with the fact that now a sneeze from that man would be enough to kill him.

He tried to land on the ground and look for gaps that he could use to run away. But the moment his foot touched the ground.

"Gotcha!"

An array of black spikes pierced it, almost hitting Leo straight in his chest.

In a flash, he jumped to the side, more spikes kept coming out, each one barely missing Leo as he used the air walk ability.

The frustrated man decided to switch his tactics, turning to the other two party members who were trying to make their way out.

Their speed was way inferior to Leo’s so the spikes could easily catch them.

To prevent him from casting the spell he had to do something fast.

’The two of them are too heavy for me in this form...’

That left him with only one option left, stopping the attack. He shifted his direction mid-air and went right towards the muscular guy.

"You fell for it. Time to show you the true power of the Void!"

[Void Shockwave]

[Spirit Sword Style: Hermit Turtle]

His opponent whispered before throwing a devastating attack right into his gut. He got sent flying as a shockwave of void energy escaped from the impact.

The void patches decorating his forearms lost all the purple inside them.

[Critical condition!]

[Critical condition!]

[HP 1/24 800]

’Fuck...’

He could barely move, due to the late activation of the Hermit Turtle, the damage reduction didn’t work, not like it would leave him much healthier though.

[We are almost there, just wait a moment.]

There was no more time that he could buy, the other two stood no chance against that man either.

[Inventory]

[1x Pink Crystal]

[1x Dragon Essence]

[1x Dark Rod]

[1x Corrupt Shard]

[Take Amelia and Trevor away, don’t come close...]

<You aren’t trying to do what I think you are, RIGHT?!>

Cien dissolved back into the ooze and coated both of his forearms. With a strong pull, he took away Leo’s hand from the window.

<Don’t you dare do it!>

Inside Leo’s mind, that was the only way. It felt like merging with the Corrupt Shard would be the only way to gain the power he needed.

How else could he fight against such overwhelming power? No matter how hard he tried to get stronger it felt like he would never reach their level.

"Yes, Leo Astralis! Use it and join us!"

The excited man walked over towards him, each one of his steps brought fear and authority to the aura emitting from him.

Leo took the shard out of his inventory, stuck in a trance-like state. His companion that’s been with him since the start, Cien.

Once someone who almost killed him, now did his best to prevent the Shard from touching Leo’s skin.

<Get yourself together Leo!>

"Master, no!"

In an instant, the Shard was taken out of his hand and thrown away.

And by who?

It was The Fearmonger.

"You can’t be doing that!"

She shouted at him before summoning as many Hellwings as she could to cover for them.

Right after the Shard left his hand, he started to cough up for air. It felt like he just got out of the water after staying in there for hours.

"Thank you Fearmonger, what’s the situation."

He asked her while drinking health potions to rejuvenate himself.

"They should be arriving shortly, I dropped them off a moment ago."

Her breathing was rapid and irregular, clearly exhausted by the speed at which she was flying this entire time.

Both of them looked at the muscular man in front of them who had fury in his eyes at the sight of Leo not accepting the Corrupt Shard.

Just as he was about to yell at them, a portal opened right next to him.
