Chapter 40: The Prince’s Power

(At the Algoria Palace.)

’’Godfrey... Could we rest? We’ve been doing this for the whole day and I’m tired.’’

’’Just a little bit more your majesty, you’re almost there.’’

Ever since Conrad split with his friends and wasn’t allowed outside Palace grounds, he has been trained and taught by Godfrey day and night. His hard work has finally paid off after hours of attempts and fails.

He takes a deep breath and starts to focus his whole and soul into this attempt. Thoughts of him doing push-ups, sit-ups, running and other exercises that were exhausting for him. All of that work for this moment.

(Seven weeks ago)

’’Please Godfrey... teach me.’’ Conrad goes to one knee desperately.

’’Your highness, you don’t have to kneel.’’

’’Godfrey, please.’’

’’Fine I’ll do it.’’

’’Really?!’’ He jumps in excitement and to shake his hand vigorously. ’’Thank you! Thank you! Thank you, Godfrey!’’

’’ Your highness would you calm down. It’s just training. I’ve trained your father and your brother before so it’s about time you get trained.’’

’’So, when do we start? We can start now if you want.’’

’’Now? Are you sure sir?’’

’’Yes, yes, we should start now.’’

’’Okay than go get on your training clothes and wait for me in the training center.’’

’’Yes sir.’’

Conrad runs to his room and Godfrey heads to the king’s study and knocks on the door.

’’Come in.’’

He enters and sees the king sitting behind his desk looking through paperwork.

’’Your majesty. You called for me.’’

’’Godfrey, please come in. I’m also expecting Hans to come, have you seen him?’’

’’No sir, he was out to meet the duke the last time I saw him. He should be on his way back since he left in this morning.’’

’’Okay than. You may have a seat while we wait.’’

’’Thank You sir.’’

They silently wait for Hans for a few minutes until a soft knock comes on the door.

’’Come in.’’

Hans comes through the door wearing neat and clean attire, he smiles at both of the men in the room and does a slight bow at both of them.

’’Father, Godfrey afternoon.’’

’’Son, finally you made it. Please take a seat, so we talk about what’s at hand.’’

’’Is everything okay father?’’

’’Yes son. I just wanted to address something to the two of you first.’’

He moves from his desk and joins the other two.

’’I bought you two here to tell you some great news. I’ve been thinking about this for months now and even discussed it with my wife.’’

’’Is everything okay father.’’

’’Yes. But everything is about to change for us now, the whole of Algoria. To put it simply,

I’m stepping down as Algoria king.’’

’’What?! WHY?’’

’’Your Majesty, might I ask why?’’

’’Because Godfrey, Hans will be the one to step in my place.’’

’’Father, I appreciate your offer, but isn’t it too soon for me. What do I have to offer to this country that you aren’t already doing. Better yet, these people love you and we have gained respect throughout the world because of you.’’

’’Yes son, I know about that. But you’re our future, I believe that you will take your people to the next level. Evolve our beliefs.’’

’’But father, I don’t think I’m ready.’’ Hans stands to his feet approaching his father.

’’Son... Have faith. I’ll be here to guide and advise for as long as I live. If I’m not around to do so than Godfrey will most definitely be there for you, Godfrey has always been there for me in my reign. I’m sure he’ll be able to help you. Right Godfrey?’’

’’Yes, your majesty.’’

’’What do you say son? Are you willing to take on my heir?’’

’’Am I not supposed to wait until you’ve passed on to do so?’’

’’Yes, it should. But why wait for that when you can do that now? Plus, I want to see how you’ll take us while I’m alive.’’

Hans takes a step back and is in disbelief. He doesn’t want to believe what is happening and doesn’t want to accept it. He’s dream was always to have the same impact his father had on Algoria but he didn’t think it would come this early in his life. Godfrey stands next to him and puts his hand on his shoulder to reassure him.

’’Your highness stop worrying, this is what you’ve been waiting for wasn’t it? This is your passion.’’

’’I have to think about this... Please excuse me.’’

He takes a bow and leaves the room. The king looks at Godfrey and shrugs.

’’Godfrey...’’ He rubs his eyebrows.

’’Yes, your majesty.’’

’’Do you think I expect too much from the boy?’’

’’If may be honest with you your majesty, you expect a lot from every one of your children. It isn’t to say it’s bad thing, it impacts their growth.’’

He sighs.

’’Maybe I should-’’

’’Your children are exceptional your majesty. You should be proud of them and both yourself and the queen for raising them. And Hans will become a great king, you know this, and he knows this.’’

’’Godfrey... Thank you, for your services.’’ He smiles and bows to him.

’’Thank you my king.’’ Godfrey returns the gesture by doing the same and exits the room.

He heads towards the training center and finds Conrad preparing himself for the training.

’’Godfrey! Finally. Where were you? I’ve been waiting for you.’’

’’Butler work, should we get straight into it?’’

’’Yes sir.’’

’’Okay. Firstly, I can’t teach you about something you can’t understand so I’ll tell you the ground rules. Secondly, while I’m your teacher everything you’ve learned, erase it from your mind, I don’t care if you’ve learnt it before, erase it. Thirdly, rest. Rest is important when it comes to training, rest you mind and your body. Understood?’’

’’Yes sir!’’

’’No need to make a noise, it’s only the two of us.’’

’’Sorry... yes sir.’’

’’Okay then, it seems we’re ready to get this started.’’
