Chapter 37: Going Back.
’’Ready?’’
Amari nods. With no second thought, Apollo starts with a jab. Amari blocks the jab clumsily which leaves a bit damage. Amari notices that his movement are faster than the last time fought.
Amari tries to retaliate by swinging his own punch towards his jaw with his left hand, but Apollo anticipates the move and quickly dodges the move by moving his head backwards.
He looks at Amari’s fist pasts his face, but Amari follows through by swinging another with his right. Apollo instinctively block the shot and as soon as it lands, he loses a bit of balance. Amari uses this an opportunity to finish him, but he is stopped by a gust of wind and large shadow figure standing in front of them.
’’Why are you... why are you two fighting?’’ Erling barely on his feet, struggling to getting the words out of his mouth.
Amari let’s go of Apollo, Erling drops to the ground and murmurs something while looking at the sky.
’’Ouch.’’
’’You can carry on with what you’re doing...’’
’’You already drunk this early? Don’t you have an army to lead or something?’’
’’Yes... yes, I do... I led them to a bit of booze this morning, just for...’’ He starts murmuring some more and falls asleep.
’’Should we carry on?’’ Amari asks.
’’No. What did you want to talk about?’’
’’I wanted to know when you were thinking of going back home?’’
’’Why are you asking me this?’’
’’Because I’m going home tomorrow, I want to know whether you want to come with me?’’
’’I can’t... I still have to do something before I go back there.’’
’’Why don’t you do it there? And what about your family? They’re probably worried about you.’’
’’No... I can’t go back right now. I want to get stronger first.’’
’’Stronger?... What’s wrong with becoming stronger at home?’’
’’I don’t want them to see me like this... I don’t want them to see me as weak.’’
’’That’s stupid, no one in your family would think that!’’
’’My decision is final! I’m not going home... You don’t have the right to concern yourself with what I’m doing with my life. If you want to leave, then leave.’’
Amari leaves him standing there and frustratingly runs into the house and slams the door.
’’Hey... you two, no fighting!’’ Erling shouts while still on the ground.
Freyr is busy mixing her medicine but is startled by the bang from the door. Amari walks past her and goes to his bedroom and bangs the door again. She goes after him and slowly opens the door.
’’What’s wrong?’’
’’Nothing.’’
’’It doesn’t look like nothing to me, why are you annoyed?’’
’’I said it’s nothing, please leave me alone.’’
She slowly closes the door and goes outside to Apollo.
’’Hey kid, what’s going on with your friend.’’
’’I don’t know, why don’t you ask him.’’
’’I did, and he doesn’t want to, that’s why I’m asking you.’’
’’If he couldn’t answer your question, what use am I to you?’’
’’You two tend to forget that I’m doing you guys a favor by letting you stay at my house. You better start talking to me with respect.’’
Apollo ignores her and starts with his training. Freyr leaves and kicks Erling, but he’s not moving.
’’Hey idiot! get up!’’
She gives up and decides to drag by his arms to the house.
’’Why is he so heavy.’’ She murmurs.
She goes to put him in the bedroom that Amari and Apollo sleep in.
’’Kid, mind helping me getting this fatty on the?’’
Amari helps her get Erling on the bed by grabbing his legs on the bed, they both struggled because of his weight but finally get him to sleep comfortably on the bed.
’’Thank you, kid.’’
Amari nods and goes back to reading his book.
’’Since you’ve calmed down, tell me what happened earlier.’’
’’...’’
’’You know talking about something that bothers you to someone helps. You can tell me what’s wrong, maybe I can help you.’’
’’It’s ... It’s just Apollo. He doesn’t want to go home, because he is scared to meet his family again.’’
’’Why wouldn’t he want to do that, you guys need your parents.’’
’’He says it’s because he wants to be stronger. He doesn’t want them to see him while he is weak.’’
’’No wonder he’s training so much.’’
’’Does that matter in a family? The amount of strength you have.’’
’’ It does in some yes, but in most families it doesn’t.’’
’’Then why is he doing this, Nana told me that family should love you regardless of how you look or how strong you are. But why is he doing that? I really don’t get it.’’
’’Maybe he wants to be strong so that he can protect them, maybe that’s what’s important for him.’’
’’That’s not true, how could you protect someone you can’t even see? I thought the importance in family is the amount of time they spend together; I thought family protected each other together... That’s what Nana thought me.’’
’’Your nana was right, in a way... but that’s not how everyone views their family. Not everyone will think the same way you think and follow the same laws you follow. That’s something you have to deal with your whole, regardless of whether you like it or not.’’
Freyr notices how Amari is becoming more frustrated.
’’Hey... you know what? I’ll talk to your friend and try to convince him to go back with you, okay?’’
Amari nods.
’’Okay... By the way, is your nana the same one who thought about books?’’
’’Yes, she used to teach a lot of things.’’
’’Nice, is she the reason you’re so keen on going home?’’
’’No, she’s...’’ Amari starts blinking fast and he eyes start becoming watery.
’’Oh... I’m so sorry.’’
Amari goes to his chair and silently picks up a book and puts it in front of his face to cover his face from being seen crying. Freyr lets him be and leaves.
