Chapter 36: Uncomfortable.

The following morning Freyr sends both of the boys to the market to buy some fruits, vegetables and fish. On their way there they get distracted by many of the villages’ wonders, the amazing statues of former kings and other sculptures that explain the history of the village.

’’Hey, I’ve seen that before.’’

Amari points at a rock painting with that has the same type of at style and display he saw at the Aruba clan.

’’Oh yeah? You’ve seen this exact painting young lad?’’ An old fat man appears behind them looking at the painting ’’Because according to what I know, this is the only one that exists.’’

’’No... not really but I saw the other half of it.’’

’’Another half... I’ve heard rumors about the painting being split into three into three different parts. Do tell what you saw on the other painting young lad?’’

’’It wasn’t fully explained to me, but my friend mentioned something about.... Ragnarök?’’

’’Ragnarök?! Oh, dear me young lad!’’

’’I’ve read about that on some books back home, but there isn’t much said about it.’’ Apollo mentions.

’’Yeah, I rarely do hear tales about Ragnarök nowadays. Those used to be mentioned a lot in my childhood days.’’

’’Yeah, I heard that it was associated with the Monkey King.’’

’’Yeah, I’ve also heard about that. Most say it’s something that’s yet to happen. We might not even be here to witness it.’’

’’Wow. Can I touch it?’’

Amari reaches out his hand towards the rock, but the old man slaps it.

’’Oho no! Young lad. This is a sacred treasure around these grounds.’’

’’Amari let’s go. We still have some things to buys.’’

They leave the old man standing there still looking at the rock on his own. The two boys finally arrive at the market and see a crowd of people buying and selling food and other products.

They move from stand to stand looking for what Freyr sent them to buy. They carefully pick and buy everything and leave the market.

’’We should take a short cut to get there faster.’’

’’No, I want us to head this way.’’

’’Why? it’s clear that we’ll make it there faster if we take this path.’’

’’Because I want to see more sculptures...’’

’’No need for that bro come on, you’ll get to see them later. I want to go drop this stuff off as soon as possible.’’

Amari nods and decides to follow him. As they are walking through the narrow paths between buildings Amari keeps looking behind and above himself.

’’Is someone following us?’’

’’Not one, but a whole group. We should run.’’

’’If you run, then leave the baggage behind, would ya?’’ A voice from creeps from the shadows.

They stop on their tracks and Apollo look around trying to find where the voice is coming from. He immediately drops what he’s carrying preparing for whatever comes at him. The owner of the voice finally appears out of the shadows holding a sharp dagger. His tongue is out, and he has an eerie smile across his face.

’’ We don’t want any trouble with you guys.’’

’’Good, we just want your goods than ya’ll can go.’’

The rest of the group slowly appears to light and surrounds the boys from behind. Amari also drops what he is carrying and prepares himself for battle, but their opponents look like they’re too much for the two of them. Other members start to even appear from the top of the building. They all pull out different weapons as the circle gets smaller.

’’ Ay ay ay what’s going on here lads?’’

An unfamiliar voice appears making every silently looks at where the voice was coming from.

’’Do you mind if I join you lads?’’

’’This matter is none of your concern so scram old man.’’

’’Now see that would be a problem because I seem to recognize these two boys from earlier on.’’

It was the old man that they met before going to the market. The leader of the gang sighs and signals that they leave the area, and they all disappear in an instant. The old man smiles and mockingly waves goodbye.

’’Thanks, old man. I don’t know how it would’ve ended if you didn’t intervene.’’

’’No problem young lads, just keep safe and don’t walk in these parts of the building, would you? Those bandits camp around these areas waiting for people like you to rob.’’

’’Yes sir, but aren’t they part of the village? Why are they robbing their own people, shouldn’t they be stopped or at least punished?’’

’’Yeah, I know but they aren’t a threat to anyone they just pull-out knives as intimidating tactic for kids and take their stuff, that’s why the government doesn’t bother with them.’’

’’That doesn’t change the fact that they were trying to mug us.’’

’’Calm down would you lad? Nothing makes sense in this world, why try and understand this village. Everyone has already accepted it, so it doesn’t matter.’’

Apollo annoyingly sighs and flicks his tongue; he frustratingly picks up the bags and starts walking and the other two follow him.

’’By the way, who are you?’’ Amari asks.

’’Me? I’m just an old man who likes hanging around.’’

’’Your name, what’s your name.’’

’’You don’t have to know that you’ll address me as grandpa.’’

’’So, you don’t have a name?’’

’’I do, but you don’t have to know that.’’

’’...’’

’’This is where I leave you two, I’m heading this way.’’

The two keep walking straight while the old man took a right turn. As they walk through the streets, Amari sees Erling in a crowd of drunk people dancing and singing.

’’It’s still morning, and they’re already getting drunk?’’

The group of people sing their hearts out with their arms around each other’s shoulders, the women are also dancing, and a few are gambling.

’’Look, it’s Erling.’’

’’Where?’’

’’There, between those guys who are dancing.’’

’’No... I don’t see him, maybe you’ve him mistaken for someone else, all these Scyl people look the same.’’

’’No that’s him, look with the brown jacket.’’

’’Doesn’t matter whether it’s him or not, we have to get going.’’

They finally arrive at Freyr’s house and drop what they bought on the kitchen table, Fryer enters the kitchen on high alert.

’’Where have you two been? You were taking so long; I almost went out to look for you two.’’

’’We got the stuff you sent us; I’m going outside to train.’’

Apollo goes to the backyard and Amari follows him and they both go to the grounds.

’’So, you finally decided to stop reading your books and join the action huh?’’

’’No, not really. I just wanted to talk to you... about going home.’’

’’Can we talk about that later? I’m training right now.’’

’’No, I want to talk about it right now.’’

’’No, this is my time to train.’’

’’Okay then I’ll fight you, if I win you listen, if you win, I’ll leave you alone.’’

’’Okay... I don’t mind a bit of sparring.’’

Apollo gets his hands up and starts hopping warming himself up.
