Chapter 35: The Investigation.

The three Wachter members are still in their ongoing investigation in finding out whether the boys are still alive or not. They search for anything that could be used as a clue of where they are or what happened to them.

’’We’re heading towards the Scyl clan’s territory, so let’s be careful guys.’’

’’I think we should head back, there’s no sign of them here.’’

One of them who’s looking for the clues from above at the trees. He drops from above to join the rest of his team.

’’Why did we stop?’’

’’Fredric suggests we turn back. I think he’s right, there’s no point of looking for them anymore.’’

Simon the leader of the group, starts drinking water and sits down to rest against the tree.

’’We’ve been looking for these people for hours, and it’s starting to become dawn.’’

’’But shouldn’t we look more into it, there has to be something-’’

’’We’ve tried everything, even used our uncos and no luck. We should just tell the parents everyone was eaten by a tiger.’’’

’’Who cares whether they’re dead or alive anyway. I heard one of them was moor so it shouldn’t matter.’’

’’What do you mean?’’

’’Exactly what I said, their lives don’t matter.’’

’’How dare you!’’ Andre grabs Fredric by his collar and roughly shakes.

’’Andre enough!’’

Andre releases him.

’’Imagine if that was your child!! Would you be spouting that same nonsense?!!! Huh?!’’

’’Okay man sheesh, I didn’t mean to offend you.’’

’’Enough! both of you! Andre it’s clear that you still want to continue with this search, but we think that’ll be a waste of time considering there isn’t a trace of them left around these woods.’’

’’I don’t care, you guys can go back. I’ll carry on with the search.’’

’’Yeah, you can do that. We’re going back.’’

’’No, as the lead in this search we are meant to stick together always. So, if we go back everyone has to come. I do have an idea though; we could all go back and address this to HQ and Andre can be appointed to a new group that wants to carry on with the search, how’s that?’’

’’That’s fine with me.’’

’’No, that’ll be too late by then. What if they die in during that time? We don’t know how much they need us right now; we need to move now.’’

’’Why are you not taking in consideration the fact they might be dead?’’

’’Because there’s chance that they could be alive.’’

’’Ugh, what’s wrong with this guy?’’

’’Okay what if I go and look for these guys myself while you two camp here for the night, until tomorrow at noon. If I haven’t found them by tomorrow at noon, we’ll declare them as dead.’’

Fredric and Simon silently look at each other and nod.

’’Okay we could do that for now.’’

’’Okay then, I’ll immedietly get going.’’

Andre hands them some of the equipment they could use while camping, in exchange they also give him things that would benefit him with his search. After he leaves the two finish with making thei camp site and sit around a fire eating their canned food.

’’What a waste of time, how naive could that dumbass be?’’

’’Man... If he wants to waste his time searching let him be. It’s not like he’ll be able to find them by tomorrow.’’

’’If you believe that than why did you let him go? This will just waste our time where we’ll have to sleep on the floor tonight.’’

’’Stop complaining man, it’s not like this is your first time in a situation like this.’’

’’I know it isn’t but that doesn’t mean I like it, plus my back can’t handle this. I’m too old for this.’’

’’Just allow it this once, old man.’’

Simon shrugs while finishing his meal.

Andre skips from tree to tree and branch to branch, searching everywhere. He feels the pressure and starts doubting whether he’ll find these boys or not. Unfortunately for him it was getting darker since it was evening making him move slower.

He is forced to get on the ground and search by foot. Images of his daughter and son come to mind where they’re all hugging and smiling.

’’I love you daddy!’’

’’I love you too, my little muffin.’’

He erases these thoughts and focuses on the task at hand.

Freyr is in the kitchen cooking while Amari is still reading his books in the room. Erling joins them.

’’Woo! Just in time for that delicious meal.’’

’’You need to get yourself a wife.’’

’’I know I do but you don’t have to rub in my face!’’

’’I will, until you get yourself one.’’

Erling ignores her and goes to check on Apollo who’s still sleeping.

’’You’re still reading?’’

’’Isn’t it obvious?’’

’’You should stop for now, it’s almost time for supper. How long has he been sleeping?’’

’’Since you left him.’’

Erling goes to check on his temperature.

’’Can I ask you something?’’

’’Go ahead...’’

’’Why do you always come here? It’s clear that Freyr is not your mother, or anyone related to you but you’re always here, why?’’

’’Because she’s always looked after me. My parents never really paid attention towards me as much as they did with my brother, the king. And I never used to like being locked in the castle the whole day, so I would always sneak out .

One day Freyr found me crying in the middle of the streets with an injured knee and she helped me. I knew who she was, and she knew who I was considering I was a prince, and she was a very popular doctor around the village. I don’t know how, but I always found myself around her, and she thought me everything my parents never thought me and more. To put it simply, she’s like a mother to me. Always looking out for me and what’s best for me, in which I do the same for her.’’

’’Like a mother...’’ Memories of Nana start appearing.

’’Yeah, she might not be my real mother, but she always treated me like her child, and I’ll always treat her like my mother.’’

’’Nana...’’ Amari whispers as his eyes starts tearing.

’’What?’’

’’Nothing, we should go for dinner the food is ready.’’

’’Okay... Is everything okay with you kid?’’

’’Yeah, it’s okay.’’

Erling slowly steps out concerned while Amari sits on the chair thinking about Nana’s head being cut off. The events replay in his head and he sees everything play out.

A tear from one of his eyes drops on the pages of the book.
